Swipe ⬅️ — ...got a little emotional watching this, mainly because I almost forgot it ever happened. The first few years immediately following Hurricane Katrina were such a blur for me. I was so obsessed with “making it” (or whatever I thought that meant at the time) that I totally failed to ever be present and enjoy the moments as they came. But, as I look back now, I’m so grateful 😭. ________________________________________________ Yes, that is legendary guitarist Junior Marvin of “Bob Marley and the Wailers” 🙌🏽. He happened to be at the studio during one of my sessions for my song “Seasons” (swipe ⬅️ to hear it), and he told me that he loved my voice. I was blown away. I was like, “If you like it so much, you should do a song me on YouTube”. And he was like, “Ok! Sure!”. Lol. I couldn’t believe it. He was totally professional (of course) and so NICE - just a totally down to earth guy. And he didn’t charge me a DIME!!! This is a man who was playing with folks like Lenny Kravitz; he didn’t owe me a damn thing. But he helped me anyway. His approval was so validating and affirming; it really gave me an extra jolt of strength to keep pressing on with what at the time felt like such an uphill battle as an independent artist. __________________________________________ I’m working on a project for youtube that involves me sharing stories of my experiences in the industry. It’s funny because, as I look through old clips and pictures, I realize I have really LIVED. Lol. I’ve met some amazing people, and I’ve had some pretty incredible experiences. For fans of my “How I Learned to Sing” series, I will complete that first - I promise. But “Tales From the Industry” will be next. I have so many stories. Some positive, like this one. ...others funny. ...and some downright scandalous 😏. Lol. I just wish someone would’ve been real and upfront with me about how it all goes down.
