Closed Starter for @cantfightmoonlight Where: Meena's House
Kadir couldn't say he was surprised with what he was seeing. The truth was, there wasn't a lot that could surprise him anymore, not after all he'd seen and how long he'd lived. But watching Meena tear apart half her house? That wasn't surprising at all. In fact, it made all the sense in the world. All Kadir wanted at that moment was to destroy something, to dig his hands into the earth and rip it apart. Since the events of the nightmare, Kadir had not spoken to Meena once. She was going to hate him for it, he knew that. She had been forced to kill her husband--their sire--and he knew the sort of pain she was in because he felt it too: not an emotional loss but a physical one, their (unwanted) connection to Theo being ripped away. But Kadir would have taken all the pain in the world to be rid of that man.
So yes, he should have gone to check on her. He should have been at her side the second it happened. After what he'd done in the dream--chosen Meena not once, but twice over James--she surely expected him to. But it was because of what he'd done in the dream that Kadir hadn't been able to look at her, and he certainly hadn't been ready to talk. But he didn't run this time. He did not skip town. He did not find himself half way across the planet. For three days, he locked himself away in his new house and spoke to no one, thinking about the image of Jame's dead body, of his screams, and he had nightmares where James' ghost haunted him, asking why he'd let him die, why he hadn't chosen him. Kadir did not regret choosing Meena, but now he had to live with the consequences of that choice. It may have been a dream, but it had felt real when he made that choice.
He cleared his throat as he approached to let her know he was there. "I like what you've done with the place," he said.
