It’s insane to me that monstrosity is happening before the main plot of dr , especially the fact that Kai was a comedy relief in dr
In the show he laughs and cracks jokes and often seen a this goofy guy , and then monstrosity shows us that Kai had the most traumatizing sh!t happening to him for the first weeks after the merge
And when he got back to the monastery he went back travelling to find the rest of the team
My man need therapy, no matter how joyful he is definitely repressing his memory/ trauma and hiding it behind a smile
Idk if there were more not monster people In whatever nightmare land Kai ended up in but if there is , i really hope they get to have them see the happy comedy relief Kai and actually be stunned
can I request a gn!reader who's incredibly sexy in the most mysterious way possible x kai🤲 I think he'd go nuts trying to figure out reader and it's really fun to think about... reader is new to the team and notices kai is actively going crazy about them because all he knows is their first name and he hasn't realized reader doesn't speak unless they feel like it. reader lures him in with their ID to have a conversation about his horrible job at borderline-stalking (which is incredibly amusing to reader)
apologies if this is too specific this is me letting my crazy flag fly🧍
I’m sorry for keeping you waiting so long 💔 don’t be sorry abt being specific! I prefer it :) I’m not entirely sure what you meant by “lures him in with their ID”.. so, I hope the scene I wrote works with what you imagined. I wrote so much I hope I made the character as smug as you wanted 😭😭
Moth to flame
Kai x GN!Reader, takes place before the events of dragons rising, set in canon verse

Kai is an inquisitive guy— with a complete lack of self control. If he was curious about something, there was no way in hell he’d just let it go. He had to figure it out. He had to figure you out.
People warmed up to him pretty fast. Although he was a bit intense, a bit quick to joke around— he was friendly. He didn’t make things boring. You seemed to be immune to his charms, though. Every time he’d look around to see who was laughing, you wouldn’t be. Eventually, he’d only search for yours, but to no avail.
Practically never speaking. Always training in your room alone, late at night. Always keeping your arms crossed, your eyelids low, and your gaze intense; piercing. Almost never spotted eating. Never smelling like sweat, even after hours of cardio.. hair barely even greasy. It’s insane, he’s like, “Do they ever even have to take a shit? Do they ever do anything embarrassing?”. What are you even like at your worst?
A name has always been enough. It was always the first step. Now, it feels like a blockade. A limit. Like it’s all he’ll ever know about you. It’s as close as he’ll get to your hair and skin. The lashes that frame your eyes and the hands that held him down during your guys’ spar. But.. hey,.. he’s not the type to back down from a challenge. Challenges make things more exciting. His brain needs them, or else he’ll become bored.
You left the dinner table before everyone else, as you normally do. This time, you’re followed. You swear the ground isn’t moving the same. You recognize who this is, from the way they’re sneaking around. The interval in which their steps are lightest— how frequently or infrequently they made it seem as if an object was moved by the wind. What really sealed the deal for you though, was the scent of his cologne. He sprays generously. He must be very anxious about smelling bad. Smells like it’s camellia oil based, actually.
He’s not half bad, though.
Every time you turn around, you probably look crazy. He leaves no trace.
You make sure to lock your door once you get into your room. You’ve already put a privacy screen in front of the vent, the day you moved in. You’ve ensured the curtains are completely opaque— that they cover the glass without leaving room for peeking. You’ve made sure your floorboards have plaster between them, that your walls have no cracks. You’ve made your room impenetrable.
This would have to stop, truly. You barely know the kind of guy he is. If he’s just admiring you or if he has awful intentions. You like your sleep. You don’t want to do it with one eye open. So, tonight you’ve put together a plan. You’d address this within the next few days.
You’re obviously being watched. You know because the puddles on the ground outside , often experience a brief moment in which the light doesn’t hit it properly, as if someone is above it and one of their limbs had blocked the sun. You know because sometimes the tatami mat will creak a split second after you’ve taken your step. You know because sometimes the fire lighting the lamps in the hallways will flicker unusually, as if somebody has swiftly moved past it. No matter how sneaky a ninja is, they cannot change nature.
The best proof you have of it being Kai, is the cologne. So, you’ve been eating spicy food lately.. you should keep your nostrils open.
And without a doubt, every time something strange happens, that familiar smell of camellia oil hits your nose.
You tell Wu you must go into town to verify your legal status as a ninja in Ninjago. You say they need a lot more identification than you thought, that the rules have changed in the past few years. That was bullshit. The literal son of the FSM was letting you train under him. You didn’t need to prove anything to the authorities. However.. Wu is probably not aware of this… he hasn’t been involved in law-making since the end of the serpentine war. You aren’t sure he buys your lie, but he doesn’t really have to. Because Kai’s in the room, and you know he’s listening. He goes still every time you talk.
“I must have left my ID in your room.”
“Why would it be there?” Wu asks, looking up from his book.
“I had to sleep there during my first week. Do you recall? When my window had a crack and my room was too cold to sleep in..”
“…Oh.., Yes. I do. You may enter and check.” He continues reading. Is that a comic book?
You think the next thing you say is about to sound a bit.. unnatural. You just hope Kai doesn’t pick up on it.
“Okay. Thank you, Sensei. It is all I’m missing… the rest of my identification, it’s all in my room..”
You hope Kai caught that.
You locked your door. You never leave it open. If you had, he would’ve recognized it was a trap— he would have recognized you wanted someone to enter. You can’t unscrew your vent. He would recognize that as a trap, too. Any change you make to weaken your security, would make your trap obvious to him.
So you leave everything the exact same.
“I might be in there for a long time, Sensei. I apologize in advance.”
“Take the time you need. It is important you retrieve your ID.”
You make it seem as if this is Kai’s only chance; This is the only time Kai has been you’ve ever been away from your room for what he imagines is a long period of time. He hates that about you. You never want to spend time outside of your room unless you’re training. And you do not train far from your room.
He has to take this chance.
After Kai leaves the room, you follow. He was quick. You have no idea where he is, but he’s probably entering through the floorboards. This time, since you aren’t in the room— he doesn’t have to worry about making a lot of noise cracking the hardened plaster. You smile to yourself. If he does indeed go through the floors, the plaster’s going to crumble all over him and cover him in powder.
You pretend to look through Wu’s room… How many copies of the same hat does he own..?? Then you feel it. The vibration against your wrist.
You put motion sensors on top of the floors, by the windows, and by the vents. They aren’t meant to make any noise when the intruder walks in. They were so expensive… if it is indeed Kai in there, he owes you a lot of money..
Your return to your room quietly. Well, as quietly as you can when you’re sprinting. You twist the key, unlocking your door, to see precisely who you thought it was.
“It’s not what you think it is!” He exclaims, wiping the plater’s residue off his face. You look at the loose floorboard he’s standing beside.
“I don’t care what it is. What justifies you breaking into my room? And don’t try to run away and lie! You’re covered in plaster, it’s obvious you broke in here. And the incense picked up your scent.”
“I wasn’t going to try to run..” Yes he was. “Picked up my scent? What?”
“I know you’ve been following me around. I know it was you every time, because your sloppy stalking was always accompanied by cologne… You aren’t supposed to be wearing any as a ninja. It gives you away.”
“Hey! My stalking was not sloppy” He crosses his arms. He pouts. Ever so slightly. As if he has any right to be petty.
“So it was you. Every time.” You don’t take your eyes off of his for even a second.
“Well, yeah ..! Didn’t you already figure that out?”,
“Thanks for confirming it.”
He sighs and unclenches his fists.
“… Nothing really gets past you, huh..?.. Well, how do you like my cologne? Is it up to your standards?”
“The tsubaki oil note is too strong.”
“What’s that?”
Why did you entertain that question?
“Why have you been stalking me?!” You inch closer, fists ready to strike.
“Because I don’t trust you! You come in out of no where, you don’t talk, I— nobody gets to know your last name, nobody knows where you’re from or why you’re here or how long you’ll be here!.. it’s weird, it’s suspicious! You’re telling me you wouldn’t suspect somebody like you?” You thought he’d back up, but he closes in. …Please. You’ve spent years training to be stoic during all kinds of situations. You can’t laugh because he looks like a powdered donut. But you do. And when you do, you see him grow a little pink underneath all that plaster residue.
He groans, wiping his face off with his hand even more.
“Will this break me out?” Of course he’s worried about his stupid skin. And not the violation of code of conduct all this is.
“Are you sure that’s why you started following me around? Because you suspect me of.. turning against you? What, you don’t trust your master’s judgment?”
He raises a brow. Yeah, you’re clearly new here.. “Uh. No, I don’t..” he laughs to himself, probably looking back on the consequences of blindly trusting whatever Wu says. “His judgment makes him keep things from us. Believe me, he won’t be that offended if you told him..”
“..But I’m sure he’d like to hear about you stalking me and breaking my room?”
“Oh please. I’ve done this before. Everybody’s used to it.”
Yeah, you aren’t shocked. He seems like the guy.
“Great. You won’t mind if I go up to him then, right?”
“Go right ahead. He’ll attribute this to some.. crush. He’ll call it a youthful infatuation”. He makes his voice higher on the last part, mocking Wu’s speech.
“Is that what this is?”
“..No.”
“You said it, not me. Really? Well, that’s cute. Doesn’t justify trying to watch somebody change, though.”
“I’ve never done that! I’ve never even attempted to watch you do.. anything like that.. Just— you shut up! Nobody here trusts you except for Sensei, and you’ve got only yourself to blame for that.”
“So instead of talking to me like a normal person, you follow me around?”
“You weren’t going to answer honestly if I just asked. I had to know more about you through.. something you couldn’t hide.”
“Creep..”
“If you had nothing to hide, you wouldn’t be so quiet!”
“Maybe I just like my privacy? Maybe I was just trying to settle in before opening up? And maybe constantly feeling like I was being watched since week 1 made me more reserved.”
“… Well-“
“I wasn’t going to start pouring by heart out when I was obviously being followed by somebody here. Hell, I wasn’t going to do that either way. Because not everybody’s like you! Loud and obnoxious.”
“I’d rather be a loud, obnoxious creep than some weirdo that tries to act like they’re a part of the air in the room.”
You scoff. What an asshole. He is cute, and you like teasing him, but his judgments can be pretty cruel. You turn around to inform Wu of what happened, when he grabs your arm.
“Hey.. I’m.. sorry. I—“
“You’re just trying to stop me from telling him. Are you afraid of getting in trouble?”
“What is this, middle school?” Ironic, because he clearly didn’t attend such a thing. “Let me clear things up. Look, I never wanted .. to make you feel unwelcome. I’m.. I’m just really antsy, alright? And when somebody does something out of the ordinary— and you, are absolutely out of the ordinary..” his ears get pink. “It’s.. anxiety-inducing, I dunno. It’s not like we’ve had it crazy safe. We’re ninja, for fuck’s sake — Somebody’s after us every week. I’m not trying to sound big-headed, but we’ve got targets on our back for all the work we’ve done for Ninjago! So, heaven forbid I try to look out for my team, it’s not like we ever get much peace.”
“..It doesn’t.. make it okay—“
“And I never tried to watch you change, by the way! Or in the showers, or any perverted shit like that! I’ve.. never even seen you wear any less than this..” He looks you up and down. What, is he imagining it? “And.. admittedly, you’re also.. annoyingly interesting… cuz of how little you say..”
You sigh. it is true, the motion sensors never went off around the vents of windows unless it was you. Nobody was trying to watch you in a compromised state. And the showers, well they’re totally locked down when you’re in there. Even if he had weird intentions.. he couldn’t have really acted upon them. You still aren’t convinced it’s totally his suspicion of you that motivated this.. but.. it’s.. not such an invalid reason.
“As sloppy a decision it is.. to wear cologne when you’re supposed to be untraceable—“
“Ugh, let it go.”
“You’re awfully loyal.. and.. you investigate everything.. even when it may be.. unethical. Traits of a very.. dedicated ninja.”
His brows raise, getting ready for the catch to your praise. “…Thank you—“
“But I’m here to do my job. I can promise you that. That’s all. And you should too, instead of.. pursuing people.” You smile to yourself, finally looking up to meet his gaze,
“Pursuing” he rolls his eyes. He's getting really defensive. “You’ve got a really big ego on you..”
“You seem like the type. To get excited by things that want nothing to do with you. Do you normally get exactly what and who you want? You’re awfully spoiled—“
“Don’t. Make this into something it’s not..” His eyes dart around the room, avoiding direct contact with yours. “I’m sorry. And I’ll.. leave you alone”, Sure he will. “Just.. we don’t know who you really are.. Talk to us more.”
“Oh I’m sure you’d like that.”
“Yeah. I would.” He admits. “Just.. try to settle in with us. And I promise the stalking will stop. For good.”
“Yeah.. I believe you alright.”
“I swear… Did you.. find your ID?”
“…You haven’t caught onto the fact that it was part of the trap?”
“Oh. You serious?”
“Yes! I’m training under the First Spinjitzu Master’s son! I don’t need to verify anything!”
“Well how was I supposed to know?”
“Oh my god. Get out. Actually, clean up around here first. I take it I won’t be needing to plaster my floors anymore, right?”
“No… Well, I would in case somebody else… takes an interest in you..”
“I think you’re the only one depraved enough.”
“Yeah okay.. I’ll get a fuckin broom…”
You pick the floorboard off the ground and dust it off. You smile at the burn marks on the wood. What a great first month’s impression from the Master of Fire.

Did you guys know ninja working for the same master never stalked eachother? It was a huge offense if they did. Ninjago is such a laid back interpretation of what Ninja were really like.
