GUYS, HE'S SO PEAK.
imagine Watami and Hachika fighting Daito and Kanami and when they lose, they just release their giant fucking Kaiju friend that devours light because they're sore losers-
I've talked about the Apiary and we know about Daito's monastery, so I'll talk about Kai's hide out/makeshift home where he goes after he does his kills. In order to get to it, Kai has to use his multidimensional tear claws because it's on a planet MORE THAN A MILLION LIGHT YEARS away from earth. The planet was uninhabited by human life, so its a sprawling forest of living organisms and deep vast oceans that look gorgeous and has an unreal fantasy/futuristic natural beauty to it. It's wild, it's flourishing, and it's really lonely.
In this planet, Kai has burrowed into it's center for warmth and the only way to get to this cave he made is through perilously deep and dark waters (which he can navigate fine as a Kaiju). He also made his cave suitable for his human self as well so further from the core but still underwater, he has a section that's more subtle for his human self. His "bed" for when he's human is really more of a large warm rock that he can lay on (warmed bc he made some ventilation tunnels from the planet's core into his cave) because, again, he's a Kaiju hybrid. So it feels like a soft memory foam mattress to him after a long day of fighting Ultra's. He also hunts the water life and sometimes goes to the surface for other things but he'll also hunt some other places to allow the planet to recover. The reason why he knows about this mysterious and unknown planet was because he looked through his father's journals and this was apparently the planet his mom was going to take him and his father to be their new "home". It's climate suitable for both Kaiju and humans. I've mentioned his cave and while his cave isn't going to be featured on a house decor magazine anytime soon, he tries to keep it tidy.
He has a bookshelf of his father's favorite books, various dinosaur classification, and literature from various universe's and planet's. If he WANTS something softer than he has a crappy couch that's all torn up from fits or rage or unchecked anger and then he has a corner where it's his desk and it has notebooks, journals, and multiversal maps he drew himself to hunt down Ultras and to try to figure out where the Land of the Light is.
BUT WHEN HE REALIZES KANAMI AND DAITO ALWAYS INVITE HIM OVER, he realizes that he might not be a good friend if he didn't extend that same hospitality to them. So he invites them and they're in this underwater cave (the entrance pool has tons of cool sea life) and KANAMI, WHOSE A QUEEN AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN USED TO LUXURIOUS TREATMENT IS ALL: "Oh, Kai! It looks...so nice!" and Daito is all: "...Where the hell is the bathroom?" and Kai is all: "...Huh, I knew I forgot something."
Kanami: "Wait, if you don't have a bathroom, then where do you go?"
Kai: "...Just...someplace on the planet. It's not anywhere near here so don't worry-"
Daito, cackling: "DO YOU JUST SHIT IN THE WOODS, THEN?"
and Kai glares.
He will let Kanami's Hive come into his cave to build a "suitable fortress" for Kanami (and Daito too, they guess, his room is slightly smaller than Kanami's but still designed to his gaudy tastes) and they even included one for Kai in case he wished to join them in human form. Hexel also set up telecommunication lines, which Kai didn't like but once Hexel explained the technology of how to secure them, he grew to the idea. BUT LIKE, KAI COOKING FOR THEM ONE NIGHT when they're having a friend sleepover at his cave and Daito and Kanami are pleasantly surprised because for someone who eats radioactive fish and lava...he makes a really good meal. So they're sitting in the living room and eating and watching a movie in their pajamas (Kai doesn't usually sleep in pajamas so Kanami and Daito tricking him to get a cutesy dinosaur onesie) and Kai just smiling at them because it feels strange but nice to not be alone.
KAI WILL CURL AROUND THEIR MINI HOUSE IN HIS CAVE, but mostly because he's warm (he absorbs light, so why wouldn't he be?) and he knows the cave can get a bit cold for non-Kaiju SO HE'S LITERALLY USING HIS ABSORBED LIGHT TO KEEP HIS FRIENDS WARM WHILE THEY SLEEP. LIKE HE'S SO CUTE WHEN HE'S NOT TERRIFYING-
Kai is also just incredibly good looking and I've never really said this before about a hero and a villain: BUT KAI IS 1000X MORE GOOD LOOKING THAN AKIO AS A HUMAN AND AKIO HATES IT. Because wdym the giant Kaiju hybrid MOGS him? It keeps him up at night. LIKE KANAMI AND HACHIKA ARE EQUALLY ATTRACTIVE PHYSICALLY (Hexel is the prettiest Hachibara though) and like, I love Daito but for me: Watami's face card is superior but it also really comes down to preferences bc I feel like they're both equally attractive (they actually look like they could be siblings now that I think about it) BUT KAI IS SO NOTICEABLY MORE ATTRACTIVE THAN AKIO.
Like, I've described his Kaiju form and while it sounds intimidating, IT'S ALSO INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL AND MAJESTIC and that translates when Kai is human. Like he's not even subtly attractive, PEOPLE TURN THEIR HEADS WHEN HE PASSES BY (hence the hoodie) and it doesn't help that he's 6'4. He doesn't really pay much attention to his looks but he'll use them to his advantage. If he's on the run from some SHIELD agents, he'll just barge into two girl's conversation in an effortlessly smooth way as he's all: "Excuse me, I'm new here. Can you help me?" and the girls HAPPILY give him direction (and their phone numbers) but once the danger is passed, he just immediately turns away from them wordlessly to get back to his evil schemes. When girl's hit on him, he's not really flustered or interested but he'll entertain them if its for his cover. He's calm and polite but he's clearly not as invested in the interaction as they are. If she overstays her welcome, he becomes increasingly unsettling and ominous as a way for her to "get the hint."
There WILL be times when Kai, Kanami, and Daito are hanging out and some beautiful girls approach them and Daito gets all cocky and flirts but then they pass him IMMEDIATELY for Kai. Kanami giggles at Daito's annoyed look while the girls are giggling and twirling their hair and they're all: "Hey, me and my friend just thought you were really cute and were wondering if you were single?" and Kai is all: "You certainly have bold instincts." and then he just walks off while Daito is all: "For the record, I am single-" and Kanami rolls her eyes before catching up to Kai.
When he's in his Kaiju form, Kai'Zarr, HE IS ALSO ATTRACTIVE IN KAIJU STANDARDS. Not for his looks but more because of his power, dominance, and ability to provide and protect. He's slightly politer when rejecting female Kaiju (because, again, he thinks Kaiju are more trustworthy than humans). AND KANAMI AND DAITO HAVE DEFINETLY SEEN HIM GET HIT ON BY ANOTHER KAIJU WHEN HE WAS KAI'ZARR AND THEY LOWKEY JUST DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING.
Like a female is nuzzling up against him as Kai'Zarr and he gently distances himself to show disinterest or growls lowly (not maliciously but in a way to let her know he's disinterested) and when he went into his human form, both Daito and Kanami just staring at him and he's all: "...Sorry you had to see that...Must be mating season."
LIKE I KNOW WHEN THEY WERE JUST HANGING OUT, DAITO WAS ALL: "Kai, I have a question for you."
"Is it stupid?"
Daito: "So, like...what's your type?"
and Kai looks at him and raises an eyebrow and Daito is all: "Like, do you like regular women ooorrr, are you into...like, the Kaiju side?" and Kai just ignores him and goes back to planning as Daito is all: "If you don't answer me, I'm going to assume you're into the Kaiju stuff."
Kai: "I'm into avenging my parents, Feng."
OR LIKE, when Kanami is crushing on Kai and realizes her feelings, HER LOWKEY PANICKING THAT HE'S NOT INTO...YOU KNOW, HUMAN WOMEN. And she's talking to Daito about it and she's all: "HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO COMPETE FOR HIS LOVE IF HE ISN'T INTERESTED IN HUMAN WOMEN AT ALL, DAI-DAI!?" and Daito is all: "Hey, maybe we can talk to Inigo and see if Dr. Conners can do something about it-" and Kanami throws her pillow at him BECAUSE SHE WILL NOT TURN HERSELF INTO A GIANT BEE MONSTER FOR A B O Y.
Kai Juu Headcanons:
-Kai's mother was not just an ordinary Kaiju; she was the descendant of an ancient Kaiju God called "The Devourer of Light". The Devourer of Light was a record-breakingly large cosmic Kaiju that needed to be fought and killed by multiple Ultras, taking many of their lives and gaining incredibly destructive powers with each Ultra energy core it took. Even though this beast was destroyed and the Ultras made sure to hunt all of its children and kin into extinction (including Kai's mother), it has somewhat become a boogeyman to the Land of the Light. This relationship explains not only why Kai is so powerful but also why he's able to hunt Ultras and travel through multiverses as well, and why he doesn't fall to the powers of an Ultra light the same way other Kaiju would.
-Speaking of Kai being a hybrid between a human and a Kaiju: Unlike Akio and Ultraman Rush, he doesn't face any internal division between his identities. Kai is already whole. He doesn’t suffer from inner conflict or competing instincts. This means Kai doesn’t hesitate. He doesn’t misstep. He has no lag between instinct and action. His mind and body are aligned, whether he’s sneaking through a city street in human form or tearing apart an Ultra in Kaiju form. Because he walks the line between Kaiju and human, and is comfortable doing so, it gives him an edge against heroes and Ultras alike because no one expects this giant Kaiju to flow into some regular human with ease. It's not even a question if he's more human or Kaiju because he knows who he is: The Cosmic Killer and an Ultra's worst nightmare.
- As a human, he feels like a predator wrapped in human skin. He's so still and always the quietest one in the room, his eyes observing and constantly surveying everything. His pupils may flare reptilian briefly when he’s agitated, only for him to regain control of himself and quickly correct that aspect of his appearance. He runs hot, literally, when he feels angry, embrassed or flustered (his eyes slit again, hid breath visibly steams, and his skin is hot to the touch) and he might seek a big body of water to cool him down like most Kaiju do. He will often reposition himself to have the best vantage point in the room if he can help it, sometimes growling at people if they're standing behind his back and very much disliking when people sneak up on him.
- However, as a Kaiju, he still acts like himself and sets himself apart because he still maintains his mind and strategy as a Kai'Zarr. He doesn’t rampage. Everything is surgical, targeted, and predatory. When he appears, he’s not screaming or roaring right away, he's watching and choosing the worst way to destroy his prey. Unlike most Kaiju who fight wild and angry, Kai’zarr fights like a martial artist, not a beast. He doesn’t flinch when hurt, he learns from it instantly. He makes direct eye contact with his opponents, human or Ultra, as he tears them apart. Kai'Zarr also demonstrates an understanding of its own strength, he could be demolishing buildings only to gently dust of debris that make have gotten on his shoulder. Even if he has the face of a giant beast, Kai'Zarr can also make expressions that just feel similar to the ones Kai Jou makes as a human. He's a Kaiju that can smirk after he's beaten down his opponent, he can have annoyed expressions when Akio makes a bad joke in the middle of a fight, and the rage in his eyes isn't just the primal rage associated with Kaiju: you can see that there is a purpose to avenge. It's chilling because this look is when you realize that IS Kai, because no other person has such an intense stare.
- In regards to how other Kaiju would respond to hin; Kai is a descendant of the Devourer of Light and carries its ancient Kaiju lineage, and is essentially Kaiju royalty, or at the very least, a high ranking one. Even as a human, he would gain respect from other Kaiju or intimate them because. His scent, aura, or energy RADIATE that he is cosmic and that he is dangerous. He can talk to Kaiju as easily as he can talk to humans as well. He's not just PART Kaiju, he IS a Kaiju. It's just that he can come in a more human looking package.
- Being a Kaiju also means that he has an INTERESTING DIET. His stomach is incredibly reinforced due to his lineage so while he can eat and digest human food, he actually needs things that are slightly more filling because his appetite is BIG. Naturally his favorite meal is Ultra Energy cores but he can also settle for: The flesh of other Kaiju (not his preferred method and generally tries to avoid it unless he's terribly hungry), raw elemental materials (his body can metabolize extreme elements like lava, metal, and radiation to support his cosmic physiology), and as a human he can digest raw foods, "contaminated foods" and even straight up BONES if he has too. He doesn't like sugary foods though because they taste "too processed" and the only kind of candy he'll enjoy is pure cocao chocolate (but don't worry, he develops a craving for honey later-)
- This also means he has an INSANELY huge appetite. He typically goes to a different dimension to hunt and then comes back because he's 400 ft tall as a Kaiju (that's his starting height, at least) and he still has the appetite equivalent to it as well.
- WITH THAT BEING SAID, I THINK KAI CAN MANIPULATE HOW BIG HE IS AND THAT 75,980 FT IS HIS MAX HEIGHT. LIKE, I'M THINKING THAT HE CAN FEED OFF THE LIGHT OF AN ULTRA'S ATTACK AND/OR ABSORB THEIR ATTACKS LIKE KINETIC ENERGY and that's why it's so easy for him to overpower them in battle. So when he becomes a Kaiji, he doesn't START at 76,980 ft tall, he needs to absorb some energy first.
- Also, since he's descended from a literal cosmic being KNOWN as the "Devourer of Light", he can also eat light sources. He even has his own rating of which light sources "taste good to him" and which don't. He's not CONSTANTLY feeding off light, however, because then that'd make him a total black out zone. It's only when he's feeling hungry or has been weakened in a fight that he ends up absorbing light subconsciously. BUT IMAGINE A COOL SCENE WHERE HE'S WALKING THROUGH THE CITY FOR THE FIRST TIME AND EVERY SINGLE LIGHT GOES OUT AND PEOPLE ARE CONFUSED WHILE HE'S JUST WALKING AMONG THEM, LOOKING LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN, AS HE FEEDS ON THE LIGHT. He can't do Dark matter, though. If anything, it weakens him.
- He prefers the presence of Kaiju over humans in most cases. He believes that humans are deceptive and duplicitous creatures (except for his father, who Kai believes is the very rare exception because he saw how his father cared for both him and his mother regardless if they were human and Kaiju). While Kaiju can be cruel and destructive by instinct, it usually isn't a conscious choice that they're making and is just the laws of nature. Humans, however, are capable of choosing cruelty and they do. They start meaningless wars for their own agendas, they can do horrible things to each other just for the sake of it, even though they have the choice NOT to do so. Kaiju can't lie about what they are and can't control their nature, humans can. Regardless, his distaste for them isn't as burning as his hatred for Ultras.
- He also tends to just be in the ocean floor. He is a Kaiju after all so he'll most likely make himself at home in an underwater cave in the ocean, maybe the deepest parts of the sea, or among some desolate mountains somewhere. Even as a human, he can withstand even the most extreme of temperatures. He's just never had a real bed before since his parents died but when Kanami and/or Daito give him a room, he will curl up instantly and even make a pleased rumbling growl as he snuggles to get comfortable.
- HE DOES LOVE AND MISS HIS PARENTS DEEP DOWN. They were both the light of his life and then they were taken away from him unfairly. He dislikes whiny children who complain about their parents doing things like making them eat vegetables or regular parent things because they don't know that he would kill to have that back again. He carries around a mini photo album of all the pictures he was able to take before leaving to start his killing spree of his parents. Every hideout he's made, he has a shrine dedicated to his parents that's littered with the helmets of an Ultra or an Ultra's host's bones, as if he's placing them there as offerings. He also seems to have a fondness for Kaiju mothers, as he'll defend them from Ultras and/or help hunt for them and their children as well as destroying anything that might threaten them or their young.
- Kai's ultimate motivation: Kill enough Ultras who are part of the Inter-Galatic defense force (he's killed 14, so far) so he can gain enough power to make it to their home, the Land of the Light, and then kill every single Ultra. He plans to gain enough of their energy and power to reshape space and time itself to get his parents back and they can be a family again.
I HAVE AN IDEA FOR THE HACHIBARA SISTERS LOVE INTEREST BUT ALSO, FOR A REALLY COOL ULTRAMAN THEMED HERO AND VILLAIN. So first off we have the hero:
Ultraman Rush/ Akio "Rush" Takayama:
- Rush Takayama is a SHIELD agent in training whose incredibly cocky, reckless, and arrogant. He often has to be reprimanded by his superiors but he just feels like he has a lot to prove and that SHIELD is wasting his time. Slightly entitled but only because he's always been a prodigy.
- In fact he was given the nickname "Rush" because he's constantly running in head first into situations because he thinks he can just figure out everything on the fly.
- Rush Takayama is a Japanese-American whose older brother was killed in the line of duty for SHIELD. His parents constantly discourage him from going into the Academy but Rush always admired what his older brother did and wants to carry on his legacy. When his brother died, he just felt like he lost the only person who understood him.
- Meanwhile, in the Land of the Light (the home in which all Ultramen come from), Ultraman Rush (yes, they have the same name) is a very young but equally reckless Ultraman who managed to sneak out on his own for his own mission. You see, the purpose of all Ultramen (like, in general): is to protect Earth from giant monsters and alien threats, while also inspiring humanity to be better and work towards a more peaceful and cooperative future. Granted, they usually crash land or end up on Earth unintentionally sometimes-
- Anyways, Ultraman Rush prematurely went out on his first mission before he was ready and his Ultra energy ended up somehow getting stuck onto earth and was found by SAKIYAKU. They experimented on it and because he didn't have a human host, Ultraman Rush was basically incredibly weakened and on the verge of Death.
- Meanwhile, Rush had just gotten lectured from his SHIELD superiors and was on suspension but on his way out, he overheard a team being assigned a mission about discovering a SAKIYAKU base. While he definetly wasn't old enough to know about SAKIYAKU or their incident, Rush knew that they were a rising threat, so he purposely stole the mission file just to do the SAKIYAKU mission on his own and prove himself in the eyes of SHIELD.
- He's like really determined but he's also really really dumb and overeager to prove himself.
- Anyways, Rush manages to successfully infiltrate SAKIYAKU but he loses the details of the mission on the way in so he kind of has to explore around on his own. Upon exploring, he finds a strange room where a glowing object is and feels compelled to go by it. He senses that it's weak and that it needs help, even if he isn't sure what it is but when he walks towards it, he accidentally triggers an alarm throughout the whole facility. He's suddenly surrounded by thousands of SAKIYAKU operatives and Swarm Riders but when they start opening fire on Rush, Ultraman Rush uses his energy to create a shield of light around Rush Takayama. Rush looks at the orb and he's all: "What are you?" before he reaches out and touches it.
- Ultraman Rush immediately bonds with him and Rush Takayama can feel the Ultra energy through his viens and he's surrounded by an aura of light. Rush is all: "WOAH, WOAH, WOAH, WAIT, WHAT IS GOING ON-"/ Ultraman Rush: "Heya, little buddy, so I don't have much time to explain but you're my host now and I'm gonna need you to let me transform us really quickly before they kill us-"/Rush: "WHAT!? O-OKAY, HOW DO I DO THAT?"/ Ultraman Rush: "JUST, SAY SOMETHING-"/Rush: "LIKE WHAT!?"/Ultraman Rush: "I DON'T KNOW, SOMETHING."/Rush: "OKAY, FUCK- UM, LET'S RUSH THIS!?"
- And he immediately becomes bigger, in standard Ultraman fashion, and Ultraman Rush is so happy to finally give these assholes a taste of their own medicine for experimenting on him but Rush Takayama is FIGHTING him for control so he's a lot more destructive than he intended to be and internally, IT'S JUST A BACK FORTH ARGUMENT BETWEEN THEM.
- They eventually do manage to get away but SHIELD later catches Akio/Rush Takayama and when Fury tries to fire him, Tommy ends up being all: "Yeah, I don't think we can let him go. Not unless we want to deal with this." and Tommy shows Fury a video of last night of the first Ultraman Rush sighting and when watching the video, Akio feels his wrist burn and he looks to see a symbol tattooed on his arm, as he was branded with Ultraman Rush's energy.
- Ultraman Rush: "Ugh, I look stupid. You should've just let me have control!"/ Rush Takayama: "I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON!" and, like, ONLY RUSH CAN HEAR ULTRAMAN RUSH so Tommy and Fury side eye each other before Tommy is all: "He's gonna be apart of my team, isn't he?"
- Fury: "Have fun with your new member, Agent Xiong." and Tommy just groans as Rush is literally arguing with himself.
Kai'Zarr, The Cosmic Killer/Kai Juu:
- Kai is the son of Juu Souta and Kairaksa. Souta was a normal human anthropologist and archeologist who stumbled upon an injured woman. She was strange looking, with reptilian eyes and scales on her body, but she was beautiful to him in an otherworldly way. The woman's name was Kairaksa, she was being hunted down by Ultramen because she belonged to a cosmic lineage of Kaiju's who had the ability to "unweave light" and absorb the powers of Ultramen to become even more powerful (they could also have humanoid forms as well).
- Souta helped hide Kairaksa and nurtured her until she regained her strength. At some point, he fell in love with ALL of her, still seeing her as beautiful even when she was in her cosmic Kaiju form. They eventually had a son, a boy who could transform between fully human to fully Kaiju. That boy was Kai Juu.
- However, when Kairaksa was searching the cosmos to find a place where she and Souta could raise their son in peace, she was attacked by Ultramen. She didn't fight back because she hoped that they would see that she meant no harm but her bloodline had killed too many Ultramen for them to just give her the benefit of a doubt.
- Kai was 9 years old when she died and he was raised by his father on Earth for a while in complete solitude. Souta worked obsessively to find a way where he can hide Kai from the Ultramen, desperate to protect his and Kairaska's beloved boy. Meanwhile, Kai become obsessed with training to destroy Ultramen and even though his father told him never to use his powers, the rage and anger in Kai's heart made him practice in secret. He'd destroy the areas around him, roaring with a heartbroken and angry cry, and image over and over again how he was going to make those Ultramen pay for killing his mother. One day, he went overboard and more Ultras showed up at his father's house.
- Souta did his best to protect Kai but eventually, he was killed in the process. The sight of his father dying tipped Kai over the edge as he turned into his cosmic Kaiju form, Kai'Zarr. Years of killing Ultras kicked in as Kai become one with himself, both the human and the Kaiju, and killed every single one of those Ultras. Absorbing their energy and making him more powerful.
- Kai now walks between the multiverse and cosmos, hunting down and killing Ultras to satiate his blood thirsty revenge, and making sure that each of them die slow and painful deaths so they can feel a FRACTION of the pain he feels everyday.
- Kai is a sadistic but controlled individual, he enjoys destroying Ultras with surgical precision and predatory satisfactions. He may even have a hoarde of trophies he's collected from them with each kill.
- His Kaiju bloodline allows him to hunt down Ultra's and more importantly, when they've become bonded to a host. He strikes after an Ultra has freshly bonded with its host, almost as if "spawn killing" them before they've even had a chance, and he exploits the hosts weaknesses (either emotional, physical, etc) because while bonding with a host can be an Ultra's greatest source of strength, Kai knows how to weaponize their bond so its more like a prison for the Ultra. He never attacks until the odds favor him, he will always know the terrain, and he strikes wherever it causes the most pain. If he can and has the ability too, he'd happily like to mess with his prey and torment them before he comes in for the kill.
- Kai is also aware of how dangerous he is. ULTRAS ARE INCREDIBLY POWERFUL COSMIC BEINGS, so he definetly has a chip on his shoulder because he hunts these guys for breakfast. This can cause him to be a bit arrogant but to be fair, he has the stats to back it up.
- He has that stubborn teenage certainty too. Kai believes that he knows everything about the universe and that Ultras are hypocrites who need to be taken down and that he's the only one strong enough to do it. He can be dismissive of other world views, especially sappy pacifist ones, and will brush people off during arguments with venom and cold indifference.
- He also has no friends, he can blend in among humans, but he has no intention of connecting with them. He knows better than anyone that human relations are a weakness and besides, its not like they'd ever accept him if they saw what he could turn into. Humans are just as despicable as Ultras in his eyes but at least one of them poses an actual threat to him (hint: it's not the humans).
- So at the same time with Rush Takayama and Ultraman Rush fuse, Kai had finally finished up hunting an Ultra, lazily tossing aside the host and devouring its Ultra energy and becoming empowered. When the fusion happens, his cosmic Kaiju instincts let him know and he smiles to himself as he turns back into his human form. Holding his hand to unsheathe his monstrous claws, he tears a portal into reality (it closes up behind him) as he walks like a hunter ready to start chasing another prey.
When Kai has hunted down and killed Ultra's and their human hosts, it's not really personal beyond: "Your kind killed my mother so I will kill all of you to avenge her and further grow my power." He's not really emotional when he hunts them down, he's calculating and timing everything. There have been times when he's found an Ultraman annoying or irritating, so he's responded by pettily separating them from their human host and then devouring the human RIGHT in front of their Ultra power before he devours the Ultra and its light, its not necessarily enjoyable for him to eat humans. It's really more performative violence and is really more out of pettiness than it is out of actual hunger. He doesn't like to cross that line (and prefers not too) BUT IF THEY PISS HIM ENOUGH then he absolutely will. HOWEVER, AKIO IS ACTUALLY SO ANNOYING TO KAI THAT KAI ACTUALLY GETS A BIT PERSONALLY INVESTED IN THEIR FIGHTS.
Like, AKIO IS JUST SO INFURIATING TO KAI because Akio will make quips, jokes, or throw insults in Kai's direction and Kai feels like Akio isn't taking him seriously and that HE HAS NO RIGHT TO ACT SO COCKY WHEN KAI LITERALLY HAS EVERY ADVANTAGE POSSIBLE. This is a coping mechanism on Akio's part and Kai is aware of that, it doesn't make his voice ANY LESS GRATING to him. What makes Kai's hatred of Akio worse is that Akio, unlike some of the newly bonded human hosts before him, is actually willing to die for Rush. Even though they're newly bonded, clumsy, and constantly bickering: AKIO IS USING EVERY OUNCE OF HIS STRENGTH TO HOLD ONTO RUSH LIKE SOME STUBBORN PETULANT CHILD.
Kai is a predator, a hunter, and a force of nature but also...he is still a teenager. He's going to get annoyed by certain people and he can be set off by certain things, no matter how composed he tries to act, and Akio is just really good at getting underneathe his skin. LIKE IT'S GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT HE'S NOT EVEN BEEFING WITH RUSH, HE'S DIRECTLY TALKING TO AKIO AND THREATENING HIM. Like he's fighting against Akio and Rush when they're transformed as Ultraman Rush (but both Kai and Ultraman Rush are at their human heights), Kai just growling at Ultraman Rush and looking him in his eyes and he's all: "YOU CAN'T PROTECT THAT MEASLY HUMAN FOREVER, ULTRAMAN RUSH. I'LL DEVOUR HIS SOUL FIRST WHILE YOU WATCH."
Ultraman Rush: "I'd burn you to ashes before I let you get Akio!...Also, Akio says: "You'll have to catch us first, LIZARD BREATH!" and Kai just growls before he charges at them.
What's even worse is that even when Akio is in human form and Kai is Kai'Zarr and he's standing at 400 feet tall, HE CAN PICK AKIO OUT OF A CROWD OF THOUSANDS OF PANICKED CIVILLIANS AND HE WILL CHASE AND TRY TO ATTACK HIM SPECIFICALLY TO SCARE HIM. And sometimes Akio does say some things to Kai that LOWKEY kinda make sense on why Kai would be pissed at him. Like Akio, before he knew about Kai's origins story, looked at his Kaiju form and was all: "GEEZ, Talk about a face only a mother could love."
For obvious reasons, that struck a nerve and Kai'Zarr roared with pure anger and rage as he started to attack Akio and Rush was all: "HEY, AKIO, FOR FUTURE REFERENCE: LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT THE GIANT SERIAL KILLING KAIJU'S MOTHER, OKAY?"
At first, Kai will be slightly rattled and/or visibly antagonize but then the more he fights Akio, the less they phase him but he still hates Akio's snide comments and quips. Sometimes Kai will even cut him off by just punching him or attacking before he can even finish his sentence. Sometimes he'll respond with his own witty remark but then lecture himself because he realizes he's bantering with the moron.
Akio, as Ultraman Rush facing off against Kai: "Ugh, do you EVER stop talking?"
Kai: "Only when I'm eating your kind."
Rush: "...Oh, wow."
But yeah, Akio and Rush just trigger another level of hatred to Kai in a way other hosts haven't. Like other Ultras are just tactically targeted, hunted for powers and to fulfill Kai's twisted sense of justice, and Kai doesn't even think twice about the human host unless he needs to make a point. BUT WITH AKIO; HE WILL JUST CHASE HIM DOWN OF SPITE AND MIGHT EVEN BE A BIT MORE BRUTAL WITH HIM.
Akio is terrified about the fact that Kai, whether he's human or Kaiju, knows his name and doesn't hesitate to chase him down...but also sees it as a win that he's successfully annoyed the literal cosmic Kaiju hybrid because at least he's making a name for himself!
When Kai and Akio first meet, I want their first meeting to be almost casual and easy to miss...on Akio's part. After Kai recovers from his ASS KICKING from Kanami, his instincts start picking up the Ultra's presence again and he realizes that New York appears to be where the source of the energy is coming from so he's walking around the city, a hoodie over his head as he keeps his head low but his senses are sharp. His nose sadly adjusts to the polluted air and listens in on the humans around him. He's tall at 6'4, but aside from that he doesn't particularly stand out.
Meanwhile, AWOL is going on a fun little coffee run at a Cafe, they chose a spot at the park for a picnic and Bakari remarks about wanting some coffee and Tommy is all: "There's a really good coffee place down the street, I'll head over-" but Akio, who has secretly been trying to do nice things for Hachika because he lowkey wants to fix her opinion of him, is all: "I can grab them. I'm the new guy, aren't I? Just text me what you want and I'll order it!" and his teammates are asking if he'd need help but he assures them it's fine as he walks away.
Rush: "How is retrieving hot liquid supposed to increase your relationships with the team, especially Hachika?"
Akio: "Look, she doesn't want me around her so I can't exactly do nice things for her because then I'd be bothering her. BUT, if I can do nice things for the TEAM and she's apart of the team, then she has no choice but to let do something nice for her!"
Rush: "Why have we not just...apologized to her?"
Akio: "I'm building up to that, man! Right now, I have to lay down the foundation! That way, she realizes my apology is genuine and even if she doesn't want to reject it, she'll feel bad about it."
Rush: "...I don't think I agree with that line of thinking-"
Akio: "I PHRASED WRONG."
And while they're done ordering coffee and walking back towards AWOL, Kai just casually walks past them. He's still on the look out but when he passes them on the street, he raises his head but he doesn't move it towards Akio. Instead his eyes become reptilian and they look at Akio from the corner of his eyes, his stare brief but intense as he memorized every detail about this host before he continues walking. MEANWHILE, Rush instantly feels something is wrong (this is due to the fact that the Light Devourer totally had this menacing aura to Ultras because they're beings of light) so Akio's eyes glow Ultraman white-blue as Rush takes control and turns him around suddenly. Akio looks around quickly because he can feel Rush's unease but then he's all: "...What was that for!?" and Rush goes: "...Something was there."
Akio: "Where? I don't see anything. It looks like a perfectly normal day."
And Rush is all: "...hmm, maybe I had imagined something." and Akio is all: "AH, SHIT. I spilled Hachika's drink. Ugh, she's gonna think I'm a total asshole-"
Rush: "Oh, yikes. I'm pretty sure that was the last honey lemon refresher too-"
Akio sighs softly before he's all: "DAMMIT, MAN."
But then, later that night, AWOL is called to fight when a giant monster attacks the city. A monster whose scales are black as night and even though it's causing people to run scared, it appears almost BORED with this mindless destruction. Akio is excited because he finally has a chance to prove himself to the team but Rush is all: "Akio, that energy...I feel it again."
Akio: "Don't worry, you'll feel better once we get rid of this big ugly lizard! WE RUSH TO THE CALL OF ACTION!" and then they transform, meanwhile the other AWOL members are looking at each other and are all: "Yeah, that wasn't any better."/"It just didn't hit right, you know?"/"I can't believe I actually prefer 'Let's Rush this'-" but Akio, now Ultraman Rush, says: "HEY, BUDDY, WE CAN DO THIS THE EASY WAY OR THE HARD WAY!"
And the Kaiju just stops and stares at them before it ROLLS ITS EYES AT THEM. and both Akio and Rush are all: "D-Did it just roll its eyes? That was so...human-" but then the Kaiju attacks them and charges and Ultraman Rush and Akio are going ALL OUT on him...only to realize he's somehow GETTING STRONGER. And the Kaiju hasn't even made a real attack aside from dodging them but when it grabs Rush and hangs him into the air, they can see the corner of its scaly reptilian snout upturn into a cruel snarl as their eyes widen. Because it's smirking at them, gloating even. Before it slams them down into the concrete. AND THIS BATTLE IS NOT LOOKING WELL FOR AKIO AND EVEN WITH THE HELP OF AWOL, THE DEFENDERS, AND SHIELD, IT'S NOT GOING DOWN. So when Kai'Zarr finally has Ultraman Rush on the ground, injured and badly beaten, it just tilts its head mockingly before snorting. It almost sounded like a mocking scoff as if to say; "This was the best you could do?" Before it dispersed into photons and walked away again. LIKE, RUSH WASN'T EVEN ABLE TO USE HIS MOVES and Akio and him were arguing and panicking but when that monster started into their eyes, Rush and Akio (since they're transformed) felt that overwhelming sense of fear and dread and Rush is all: "Oh no..."
Akio: "I-It left us alive? AH, my shoulder...Why? Why did it do that?"
Rush: "It can be true. It can't be true, I thought they just told us that story to keep us from sneaking out of our barracks!"
Akio: "Uh, Rush? Buddy, what's going on?"
Rush: "Akio, that wasn't just any ordinary Kaiju."
Akio: "WELL, OBVIOUSLY. It was fighting like crazy, man."
Rush: "NO, AKIO. YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. It was THE Kaiju. The Devourer of Light! O-Or something like it?"
Akio: "The Devourer of Light? What is that?"
but then AWOL catches up to Akio and they help him up and they're all: "Akio, are you okay?" and even Hachika is there like: "Takayama-San, you're hurt!" and as Rush is explaining what the Devourer of Light is, the mysterious killings of Ultramen that were reported to the Land of the Light, and other things inside of Akio's mind...Akio just not hearing his teammates as he frowns and feels a bit of anxiety hearing about the horrible things that the Devourer of Light did to Ultras.
While everyone is trying to get his attention, Hachika feeling genuine concern so she reaches out to touch his shoulder, her Harmonizer glowing a little and sending out a soothing resonance which snaps Akio out of it and he's all: "...He's coming for us next."
Meanwhile, Kai had returned to his human form, putting his hood up to conceal his face and cracking his neck slightly as he's all: "Pathetic. I almost pity you, Takayama Akio. What a useless Ultra you have." but then the star pendant on his chest glows, which causes him to purr (or rumble in his chest loudly) as he walks beneath the street lamps above him, their lights dimming as he passes underneathe them.
The most important thing about understanding Kai was that HE WAS LOVED, ONCE. Before he became a killer, he was a son. Before he was consumed by vengeance, he'd be consumed in cuddles and kisses when he cried at loud storms. Before he was "The Cosmic Killer", he was "Kai-Chan". Because Kairaska and Souta raised Kai in a home of love, understanding, and acceptance. The reason why he's so self-assured and not torn between his humanity and Kaiju instincts is because his parents never treated him any differently, they'd educate him that some things he does as a human isn't okay when he's a Kaiju because he could hurt someone, but they never loved him anymore or any less because of what form he took. He was just their little Kai.
The Kai who would turn into Kaiju form whenever his father tried to change his diaper purely because he didn't want to put one on only for him to run around until Kairaska turned into Kaiju form and stuck her big head in front of Kai's and gave him a stern look. When being taught how to fly, Kairaska would take to the air in demonstration while Souta, who had gathered every soft thing in the house from the mattresses to pillows and blankets, to cushion their little Kaiju baby's fall yelled his own words of support and when Kai fell into the soft nest of pillows and blankets and mattresses, he'd slowly tear up and cry out of embarrassment while both his parents rushed to him to comfort and adore him. When his father went out to fossil digs and such, he'd bring Kai along and teach him about dinosaurs and Kai would be all: "So, am I a dinosaur or a Kaiju?" and Souta would chuckle and ruffle his head: "You can be whatever you want to be, Kai. All I ask is that you're just as kind and gentle as your mother, no matter which form you take." and Kai is all: "...Being a dinosaur sounds cooler." and Souta laughs.
Kairaska, while she did have a humanoid form, could not blend in with humans as seamlessly as her husband and her son could. Her horns were still visible, her scales decorated and framed her beautiful face elegantly, her wings were wrapped around her like an elegant shawl, and her tail was elegant as it moved and swayed behind her. However, she would do things like put those point protectors things on her horns and claws so she didn't poke or pierce Kai's delicate flesh when he was a baby (even if she looked silly, she treated it with great care and even when Souta said: "Kaira, this horn is blunt, it's not that sharp-" but Kairaska was all: "It is must still be cushioned!") and once she was "baby proofed", she'd allow Kai to climb on and play with her horns before lovingly telling him: "Someday, yours shall be bigger and grander than mine, my love!" before pressing a tender kiss to his cheek. He was just a child, even if he was a child who had to be bathed in a cleaned up feeding trough and his father had to use CONSTRUCTION equipment to scrub him clean, he was still a child.
Souta and Kairaksa are the reason why Kai doesn't entertain the idea of "fitting into" either worlds or anguish over whether he is human or Kaiju, because they taught him he is both. They taught him why, when he was rough in human form, that he must be gentler in his Kaiju form. They taught him the importance of life but still loving him even when he destroyed things (like the new couch they got). While they taught him his different capabilities as a human and a Kaiju, they loved him all the same, and in turn, they taught Kai to love and accept himself. They never tried to make him normal through the standards of either world, they celebrated the fact that he could walk between both. Together, they erased any shame or doubt of what he was.
And that acceptance of his hybridity became his most defining and terrifying trait as The Cosmic Killer.
But he still longs for them, he yearns for them, he hasn't forgotten them. In his underwater cave, you'll find rock carvings of a beautiful Kaiju whose form looks similar to Kai'Zarr but she's beautiful with multiple wings and tails and elegantly long sprawling horns that look like a crown. They're not professional by any means but you can tell they weren't made out of messy desperation, but out of the soft recalling of memories as Kai's destructive claws carefully carved out the features of his mother. In the corner, you'll find his father's journals and maps of where some fossils might be or his own personal thoughts and ideas. Kai has clawed his portrait into the walls of his cave in silence, scrutinizing his little photo album and swishing his tail in annoyance when it looks nothing like his father but still never trying to stop recreating his likeness.
And then there's "Teefy". The only thing of sentimental value that Kai brings with him when traveling and hunting down Ultras. Teefy is a now worn out dinosaur plush, a triceratops specifically, whose now missing an eye from too much rough play (toys never lasted long with Kai) whose got many patchwork and messy stitches keeping him together. Kai doesn't curl around it and cry but when he's alone, he will hold it and stare. Having it nearby gives him comfort, a fact he's not ashamed of because it's the one soft thing he allows himself to have and NOT annihilate.
Kai had a beautiful childhood filled with love but it was taken from him.
So now, he'll make sure to get it back even if it's through bloody means.
