My favorite thing about Legend is how honest he is with Hyrule. The moment they’re alone he’s telling Hyrule what’s troubling him, why he believes in this and that.
He trust’s Hyrule so much with his thoughts and opinions it’s truly beautiful, especially since we know Hyrule is really the only one he can work well with without getting into any disputes with him.
Legend trust’s and respects Hyrule and vice versa.
I saw your reblog on Roy’s Event Horizon chapter 13, and I must say . . .
Please get on that soap box and speak about Obi-Wan, if you don’t mind ofc! Sorry if I’m being rude. I just have a lot of thoughts on Obi-Wan’s involvement and responsibility for some stuff in the war, TCW, and etc. I haven’t found any one that agreed or had an opinion on that tho! So it’d be interesting to hear your thoughts?
Why helloooooooo anon!
Ok so like straight up I was a lil scared when I saw an anon notification about EH and I was legit preparing to fight someone on Roy’s behalf 🤣💀 Like, all it showed was the first part of your ask in the preview, and I was sweating a bit when I opened it lmaoooo, but OMGGGG
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE you aren’t being rude at all! I’m honestly so surprised tho because I didn’t think anyone besides Roy was reading our brain dumps about EH! That’s so awesome!!
So, I haven’t found a lot of other people that have opinions/thoughts about Obi-Wan carrying responsibility in the war or TCW or certain arcs. You have requested a soap box and I shall happily oblige! But buckle up cause it’s gonna be all over the place and hella long 🤣 we’re also gonna condense because the original version was over 10k long and I still had more to say but I didn’t want to keep you waiting 💀 so will reblog later with additional thoughts
I’m not sure how much you know about his background as a Padawan when he was a kid, all that jazz, so I’ll kinda talk about that for a minute and then explain why that’s important
Roy made reference to him being a troublemaker when he was young. That’s 100% accurate. He has a reputation as a youngling for breaking rules, being rebellious, talking back, questioning things, yada yada yada, basically Anakin. He was passed over by all the Masters several times. Qui Gon didn’t choose Kenobi, Yoda actually assigned the two together hoping they’d be able to work Obi-Wan’s shit out
It worked, happy ending, onto Tatooine they go
So moving on to when they meet Anakin
Throughout the entire Tatooine sequence, you can kinda see this disinterested, questioning, and even slightly disappointed look on Obi-Wan’s face the entire time Qui Gon is with Anakin or talks about him. It’s clear he doesn’t really believe right off the bat what Qui Gon believes about him being the chosen one and all that, and to me it was pretty obvious he didn’t want Anakin tagging along. Anakin’s not dumb, I’m sure he would have picked up on that. Kids are smart, regardless of what we might think. So if Anakin knew that someone he looked up to, a Jedi Knight, didn’t really want him around or think he could live up to his potential, that probably put a damper on things
Obi-Wan took on Anakin because it’s what Qui Gon wanted. I don’t fully believe that he wanted Anakin as a Padawan. I know he agreed with the Council on the fact that Anakin was too old and unstable and emotional, and there was a flicker of something on his face, possibly doubt or fear, when he said he would train him
This next part is completely headcanon and what I believe happened during Anakin’s early days as a Padawan that isn’t talked about in any canon, so bear with me lol
Anakin was SO MUCH like Obi-Wan as a kid. That scared Kenobi. And with Anakin not having spent his entire life in the temple, he hadn’t learned how to control his emotions, reign in his temper, anything like that. Anakin more than likely had temper tantrums like any normal child…but he was Force Sensitive, and that would’ve made all the difference in the world. We know how strong of a connection Anakin has to the Force, how much power he has. He obviously had that connection, albeit uncontrolled, as a child. His tantrums likely threw Obi-Wan into a tailspin, and he probably didn’t handle them the best
Canon-wise, we know Anakin was terrified of losing his new Master, to the point he sometimes slept on the floor next to Kenobi’s bed. We don’t know if Kenobi discouraged or talked to him about this at all, but we know Anakin didn’t take well to correction from others, sometimes even Obi-Wan, as much as he loved and idolized his Master. Personally, I believe there was a huge trauma bond developed there, both in losing Qui Gon and in leaving his mom and everything he knew behind. Obi-Wan was the last familiar thing Anakin had and so he clung to that. Trauma bonds aren’t always a good thing. And while he did kind of grow out of that as he got older, becoming real friends with Obi-Wan, that, in my opinion, was the entire basis of their relationship and was not a good start to a Master/Padawan connection. They have a Force bond, and with that trauma connecting them, that bond was probably tainted in some way, not allowing it to be as fully developed as it should have been. We know Anakin didn’t want Ahsoka…I personally believe him not feeling wanted by Obi-Wan played a big part in that
Moving on to things happening later in TCW
The entire Satine situation
Let’s unbox THAT for a minute
We know these two idiots were in love. We know this. It irks me to no end that Obi-Wan is constantly on Anakin about emotions and attachments and all this shit when-
Like…c’mon. A bit hypocritical aren’t we, Obi-Wan? Had she given the word he would’ve LEFT THE ORDER??? He defied the Council FOR HER, someone he hadn’t had contact with in years??? But wouldn’t stand up to the Council for AHSOKA, his BEST FRIEND’S PADAWAN??? (Hold on I’ll get there)
That is literally the only time that Obi-Wan directly defies the Council. He might bend the rules a few times, especially when he’s involved with one of Anakin’s schemes or plots, but he never, ever, ever, breaks the rules as a Master
AND LET’S TALK ABOUT KORKIE FOR A MINUTE WHY DON’T WE
YOU CAN’T CONVINCE ME HE ISN’T KENOBI’S SON
When does Korkie ever mention his mother? Why isn’t she in the picture? “Oh, easy, she’s with Death Watch-“ BULLSHIT
If Bo was REALLY Korkie’s mom, knowing what we know about her, do you think she’d leave him on Mandalore with Satine? ABSOLUTELY NOT GODDAMMIT
“Oh but the timeline doesn’t match up, Korkie should be like twenty, he only looks fifteen or so-“ BULLSHIT
THERES A TWENTY SOME ODD YEAR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINDU AND KENOBI AND THEY DON’T LOOK THAT MUCH DIFFERENT
“Oh, but Obi-Wan is the perfect Jedi, he wouldn’t ever do something like that-“ BULLSHIT
Obi-Wan was human and therefore subject to human emotions and feelings. The absolute LOVE in that man’s eyes when he said goodbye to Satine will forever break my heart when I see those episodes but we’re not talking about that, we’re talking about his hypocrisy and shit. Anyways.
Also, another point?? HOW THE HELL CAN KORKIE BE BO’S SON WHEN BO IS ONLY IN HER EARLY 20s IN TCW?!?!?!?!?
So yeah, Obi-Wan said a LOT about attachments here…when they mean something to him. Lecturing Anakin when he turns around and does this, where Anakin can very plainly see what Obi-Wan is doing and how he’s directly going against everything he’s ever said or done, seems like a pretty big stab in the back to me
And actually, since we’re on that arc, let’s talk about Maul for a minute
Logic: cut man in half, man dies
Maul: lives out of hatred and spite
(I have a theory the Brother had something to do with that but let’s talk about that another time)
Logically, if you cut your opponent in half, they die. End of story. Right? Wrong. Especially when it comes to the Sith. Now, I might be willing to give him a bit of a pass if he wasn’t as studied on Sith as he should have been, but I doubt that’s the case. Sith Lords and Apprentices have a very very strong connection to the dark side and can access parts of the Force that are unknown to the Jedi and are unnatural. And for Sidious to choose Maul as an Apprentice, he would have had to have been exceptionally strong. Obi-Wan should have known that Sith are unpredictable and unstable. That should’ve been BASIC Holocron knowledge. Sith Alchemy, Dark Side Magick, Sith Sorcery…there’s no way Obi-Wan should’ve reacted like
To the fact he was alive. And out of pure SPITE and HATRED for one person
The absolute havoc that Maul and Savage wrought upon the Galaxy because of Maul’s single minded need for revenge is wild because Obi-Wan totally could’ve dealt with it. In one episode. Or maybe two? But that’s not the point. Maul got Kenobi’s attention by slaughtering people on Cybloc. There were rumors of Maul’s presence spreading around before that, but the Council (an entirely different rant, which I could go on for days about if you want a separate one about them) ignored, as did Kenobi. It wasn’t until Maul killed innocents and sent a holorecording of the act that anyone paid attention. They knew about Savage, who was enough of a threat they sent people to investigate, but when word about his Sith brother began to surface, no one thought that might be important? Least of all the man that supposedly killed him?
*smack* Qui Gon taught you better than that, Kenobi. I’m disappointed.
Let’s talk for a minute about how Obi-Wan let his emotions, something he was supposed to be in control of at all times, rule his decisions on how he handled Maul
First of all, I don’t care how you look at the situation, Obi-Wan was afraid. He thought he’d killed Maul on Naboo all those years ago, and here he was, resurrected and full of hatred. Not to mention strong in the Dark Side of the Force. That's enough to scare anyone. But instead of letting go of that fear and allowing the Force to guide him like his Master taught him, he let the fear consume him. Maul used that fear as a way to control the narrative in sooooooo many ways. When Obi-Wan faced Maul and Savage for the first time, he saw what he failed to do and the monster he created, which (Disclaimer I’m not a psychologist or anything) I’m pretty sure triggered some sort of trauma response. It also would’ve brought up a lot of PTSD (because let’s be honest, Obi-Wan has it, considering everything he saw and did as a Padawan and that was finna be the beginning of the Clone Wars) and guilt and a shit ton of other things, and that kinda took over his mind. He had a fight, flight, or freeze response…he froze. True, he did fight, but he didn’t truly fight to his full potential. We all know how good of a fighter Obi-Wan is, how proficient he is with the Force, all of that. But he just…froze. It would’ve been such an epic fight even if he would’ve just took an episode or so to prepare…but instead, he let Maul fester and create the Shadow Collective, and where did that lead us?
He takes over Mandalore, controls Death Watch by Ritual Combat, kills Satine, ruins Obi-Wan even more, gets back on Palpy’s radar, lost his brother (the only thing he truly cared about), almost got Ahsoka on his side(!!!!!!!!! Another headcanon theory but not rant I love that so much, that team up would have been legendary)
And then, he goes on to wreak havoc in Rebels.
Obi-Wan could have dealt with him very easily and very quickly. But nooooooooooooo
Now imma move on to the whole Ahsoka debacle
There is so much going on here
So much
Like…where do I even start
FIRST OF ALL
He is her Grand Master…he’s known her basically her entire life, he’s been by her side ever since she’s become a Padawan. He might not agree with everything Anakin teaches her, but hey, he taught Anakin so that’s his own damn fault. And he has the AUDACITY to not even QUESTION the Council when her honor is brought to trial???
He doesn’t even BLINK when she’s thrown out of the Order???
He doesn’t take Anakin’s, his supposed brother and best friend, side???
He turns his back on BOTH of them???
He hunts Ahsoka like she’s an animal
He is ready to sentence her to an execution
And let’s not forget
Obi-Wan is on the Council
I’m just absolutely boggled
AND THEN HE TRIES TO WELCOME HER BACK DURING THE SEIGE OF MANDALORE LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED?!?!?!?! I THINK THE HELL NOT
GOD
And Mustafar
Gods above, Mustafar
After everything that happened, after everything Obi-Wan did, after everything he put Anakin though, after how many times he failed his “brother”, his “best friend” his Padawan, how could Obi-Wan be anything BUT surprised that Anakin would turn to the Dark Side??? Sure, Palps groomed him, obviously, and there’s plenty of blame to go around, but it was Obi-Wan’s responsibility to keep him in the light
LEST WE FORGET WHAT HAPPENED ON MORTIS???
Because the Father had plenty of warnings to give
All anyone had to do
Was listen
I firmly believe that Obi-Wan played a huge role in Anakin’s downfall, if not caused it directly because of all the shit he pulled. People can fight me, people can sue me, people can come for me (please don’t tho I don’t have the energy 💀😭), but that is 100% my belief and I will die on that hill
As much as I love Kenobi, as much as I love his character and backstory, he is responsible for the rise of Vader.
seeing hyrule and legend being able to mess around and act goofy while also absolutely decimating the room their in together makes me so unbelievably happy i’ve missed seeing my boys together and happy
Legend using his pegasus boots to get all the stalfos and then bumping into the wall and stumbling back oh i’m so 😭😭 i’ve missed seeing him being himself
every since the most recent lu update i have been in a state of impending anticipation waiting anxiously for the next update because then that means i get to see my beloved sons again and i’m so excited
