Vintage Japanese Katagami Stencil Slide Show
This video is a series of close up photos of vintage Japanese katagami stencils originally used to create casual kimono. These stencils feature a fine silk screen sandwiched between layers of washi paper coated with persimmon tannin (called kakeshibu). Paper stencils were used for decades but replaced with resin or plastic ones starting in the 1960s, so these vintage versions are harder and harder to find.
We offer these stencils for sale - either as collections of usable stencils or as full frame-able artwork - when we can get them - at kyotokimono.com,
