for once in his career, kaveh is commissioned by a client that doesn't kick up a fuss... at all. (a.k.a., everything i want to tell kaveh after playing his hangout quest.)
details: mild emotional angst with a hopeful ending┊gn!reader┊~1k words
Kaveh’s used to negative reactions from some of his clients.
“Look, I don’t really like the design.”
“That’s not how I envisioned it!”
“I think the materials are too expensive!”
“Hmm…I don’t know.”
“Something’s not right. Can we just do another revision?”
“You know what, I’ll just commission someone else.”
It’s an unfortunate aspect of the job he loves. Sometimes, he wonders if he’ll ever get used to it. (Would you believe he gets nightmares about living in a world that is totally devoid of appreciation for the arts?)
Nonetheless, Kaveh pushes forward. He is stubborn with his passion; no matter how many times people tell him to try living his life differently, he thinks it will never be the same. He will continue to care too much, no matter the personal cost.
So, it’s no wonder that his heart drops when you—his current client—start crying after Mehrak displays the blueprint of your new home.
He’s dealt with sarcasm, insults, and anger, but not…this.
“I- Are you okay? Did I do something wrong?”
You bury your face in your hands as you sob. Kaveh’s body runs cold, and he frantically scans your table for a tissue he could offer.
“It’s perfect.”
In the middle of grabbing the tissue holder from the table next to yours, he freezes, wondering if he heard you correctly.
“I- Wh- Perfect?” he echoes, breath rushing out of his chest.
“Yeah,” you say, wiping your eyes and sniffling. “Oh, thanks for the tissue.”
As you try to compose yourself, Kaveh sits there for a moment, trying to process whether he’s dreaming or not.
“I mean, it’s so beautiful, I…” Tears well in your eyes again when you glance at Mehrak’s projection. (Kaveh isn’t sure, but he thinks he sees longing in your expression.)
“You…you don’t want anything changed?” He asks, using a much gentler tone than he normally does. There must be a mistake.
You shake your head. “It’s my childhood dream come alive, Kaveh. This is everything I ever wanted. You really do have a talent for this.”
His mouth runs dry at your compliment. He isn’t used to immediate acceptance, body tensing as he braces himself for the possibility that you’re messing with him. He waits for pushback, no matter how minor.
“I’m so happy people like you exist.”
Oh.
Well, he isn’t used to that either.
“People like me?” Kaveh swirls the liquid around in his glass.
“Artists,” you clarify. “You guys spend a long time honing your skills and talents to make things that are so uniquely, you. To people like me, it’s like witnessing magic happen.”
You point at your childhood drawing on the table, which had served as his reference. Kaveh had noticed your hesitance to part with the artwork when you first met, so he had taken extra care to ensure it was returned in the same condition.
“That’s the best I could do, and I’m just grateful you didn’t judge me for using a drawing I made when I was seven,” you laugh. “Other architects have asked me to try drawing something more refined—better proportions and cleaner lines. Still, I could never manage to recreate what I wanted. Every attempt missed the essence of the original thing.
“Still, I don’t know much about the whole, architectural process. It’s difficult to integrate the ideas, aesthetics, and practicality. So, of course, I’d rather have a professional do it. That’s why I tried really hard to find the architect who would understand. Someone who would take my vision into consideration while adding their special touch. The right balance.”
Now Kaveh wants to cry. He doesn’t think he’s ever had a client who truly understood what his job meant to him. (He tries to ignore the crushing feeling the realization brings him. What did he do for something like this to happen to him? He wonders if he deserves it-)
“You know, when I came here, I was kind of disheartened to hear about how undervalued the arts are,” you share, and Kaveh almost believes you’ve read his mind. “I was really lucky to run into someone who pointed me in your direction. I was close to accepting that I wouldn’t get what I was hoping for.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“I mean, to some people, it’s just a house.” You shrug. “I could ask someone to construct the bare minimum. Or, I could continue renting out a place to stay; it wouldn’t kill me. But,” you sigh, “moving to Sumeru alone is a big milestone for me. And since I plan to live here for the rest of my life, I want it to feel like- no, I want it to be my home.”
Kaveh’s early childhood drawings flash before his eyes. He recalls the time he asked his mother what kind of house she’d like to live in, eager to attempt sketching something that might satisfy her desires.
Instead, he was pleasantly surprised by her answer: she had already created it. They lived in it. He listened to her explain every decision she made—the choice of materials, the room divisions, the general size, the motifs, the maximization of space, and a bunch of other things that went over his head, given his age. It was the satisfaction of seeing her vision come to life that made it feel like home.
That experience informed every question and choice he made moving forward. His desire to be an architect was no longer just about impressing people with his capabilities, but giving people a chance to turn their dreams into reality.
He watches as you giggle at Mehrak’s happy beeps, patting it gently. Something tugs at his heart, but he doesn’t know what it is. A part of him thinks that this might just be too good to be true.
What if in two days, you change your mind and ask for a revision? You’ll get past your emotional reaction and start to see the flaws! It’s impossible. How could he have created your vision so easily on the first try?
Nonetheless, he tells himself that he’ll get it together, whatever it is you decide to do. He will do his utmost best to ensure your satisfaction.
Kaveh, blinking out of his trance, finally settles on a response: “Then, a home is what I hope to give you.”
(Little did he know what those words would mean in the future.)

A flustering encounter in a moonlit university lab.

You looked over your shoulder, down the dark halls of the Architecture building. So far, there was no sign anyone could have spotted you. You were close, now, to the lab; you prayed the door would be unlocked.
The unrelenting life of a student might have not been so busy had you been a little more organized. Perhaps you relied too much upon all-nighters and overcaffeination—to the point where you either couldn’t keep your eyes open or couldn’t stay still in class. Then you’d forget things. Important things. Important things like your bridge modeling project you’d definitely forgotten to take with you at the end of class. It was now two in the morning, and your modifications were due at nine in the morning.
Your hand fell on the handle and you jiggled it. You shouldn’t have been surprised to find it impossible to budge.
You were obviously screwed, even more than you had been five minutes ago. To get in, you’d have to contact the late night security crew (who were not the sort of people who liked being contacted about this sort of thing, you’d learned) or look for a key in the offices (which would be a very unlikely quest, since the offices would probably be locked too).
Pressing your face to the glass of the hall window, you could see your model in the dim, moonlit room sitting glumly on one of the tables. Further back, you could see another model. Someone else forgot theirs! At least you weren’t the only doofus in the class.
Then, with a jolt, you realized the window had a latch from both sides. You grabbed it, mentally crossing your fingers, and tugged. To your relief, it opened agreeably and swung towards you. You climbed over the sill and latched it shut again. Filled with glee, you walked to your model and picked it up. You would need glue, a pocket knife, and some extra material to make your modifications—some of which you realized you were short on. To head back without them would be as good as leaving it here.
However, you were in the Creative Architecture lab. If any room in the entire school would have what you needed, it was this one! You headed towards the supplies closet, and it was only then that you heard the footsteps in the hall.
It would only take a glance through the windows for your short-lived victory to be utterly busted. You slipped into the rather narrow supply closet and shut the door as quietly as you could, listening. The footsteps drew closer to the lab… and stopped.
You could make out the door to the room handle jiggling. You were safe tucked away in the supply closet, as long as the person was not there to check the supply closet. Still, you held your breath.
The door handle went quiet. Then, you heard the window latch, and the sound of someone climbing into the room. The window latched loudly and you heard quick steps to the back of the class.
“Oh, thank god,” someone sighed. Someone with an unmistakable cadence of speech.
You flung open the supply closet door and said, “Kaveh?”
Kaveh, classmate, friend, and star of your department, had nearly fallen over from shock, having stumbled several steps back and raised his arms to protect himself from a presumed predator. You did not hold back your laughter.
“Jeez! What the hell? Y/N? Why were you— what? What?”
“Oh my— Kaveh, you forgot your model too?”
He looked down at the model he was unwittingly wielding as a shield. “Yeah—you forgot your model?”
You stepped closer and showed it to him. “I’m too overwhelmed to be expected to remember things when I leave the room.”
“Tell me about it. But it’s more that I completely missed the part where the prof said we had to take them home and modify them. Someone asked me if I’d done it yet, and I was like… what are you talking about?”
“I think that’s worse. Weren’t you paying attention in the lab?”
“I—” Kaveh cut himself off. In the moonlight, you could just see his eyes avert and cheeks flood with pink. “Of course I was!”
“Hey, no need to feel embarrassed,” you said. Then, with a burst of something you weren’t quite willing to identify, you added: “It happens to the best of us, clearly.”
At this, Kaveh’s signature smile, toothy and charming, bloomed on his face. Even in the dim classroom you swore it lit up the room by just a touch. “Well, when you put it like that…” he said. “No, you’re right. I was a bit… distracted… at the end of class. But, you see, it’s all going to work out, since I managed to get in. I just have to get the final modifications done, and…”
“Unlocked window saved the day, huh?”
“Yeah. I always check the windows if the door is locked.”
“... Huh?”
Kaveh covered his mouth with his free hand. “Oh. First time?”
Before you could respond, you heard—again—footsteps. This time, there were more of them. You grabbed Kaveh’s arm and tugged him into the storage closet without a second thought. It was only as you pulled the door shut that you recalled how compact the closet was even when it was just you, and now there were two bodies pressed against the shelves and the door.
“I didn’t realize—” you whispered, not quite sure how to continue.
“You’re good, I’d rather not have this on my record,” he said.
You didn’t reply, listening. You didn’t want this on your record either, and so you were happy to wait with your back pressed against Kaveh if it meant you didn’t get expelled. You told yourself that this was the only reason you were happy to wait in this position, not entirely believing it.
The muted sound of steps grew louder, and—to your horror—stopped somewhere that must have been just outside the room. You heard the hums of indistinguishable conversation.
“Sorry,” said Kaveh at a whisper that tickled your neck, “is it okay with you if I move my arm? I’m getting sore.”
You gulped. “Sure.”
He hesitated, still unmoving. “That wasn’t very convincing.”
“Shut up and do what you gotta do, Blondie.”
You felt his arms snake past your waist and grab ahold of shelves on either side of you. You heard the gentle noise of a small wood model being set down and shuffled around a bit on the shelf. Your own arms were resting on higher shelves at a rather uncomfortable but inevitable position. It didn’t help that your mind was high on whatever cologne Kaveh was wearing a smidge of. Who wears cologne at 2 AM, anyways?
Outside, the conversation continued at the same rate.
“Titanic posing with Kaveh in a storage closet is not how I thought my night would go,” you whispered. There was no way those in the hall would be able to hear you two if you whispered. You just had to listen for the sound of the door opening.
Kaveh laughed silently. “If I put my hands on your waist, it’ll be more accurate.”
“We gotta commit to the bit,” you said, mentally praising all the gods above that he would not see the flustered expression on your face.
You felt him move, and his hands settled on your waist. Why were his hands so warm? It was sort of—nice. And since there seemed to be talking still in the hall—what could people possibly be doing to be chatting in the architecture hallway at two in the morning?—you wet your lips and asked, “Kaveh… is there someone who wouldn’t like that you were… in here with me?”
“No,” he whispered. “Nobody.”
His response was quick enough to elicit suspicion. “You’re not actually enjoying this, are you, pal?” He squirmed a little. “Oh, you are.” Damn, it was so fun to tease him. Maybe you were enjoying this too.
“I don’t think,” he whispered, moving his hands back to the shelves and leaning slightly more into you, “that you want to know the answer to that.”
His voice, soft and tantalizing in your ear, nearly melted your cognitive ability. Nearly. Ignoring your soaring heart that was clearly indicative of a health problem, you shot back, “Hey, if you’re hating every second of this, I wouldn’t hold it against you. It’s a matter of taste.”
“I’m an art student,” he replied with impressive vanity. “I have the best taste of anybody.”
“Yeah? Rubbing it in?”
You swore you could hear him thinking of what to say next with how close you were standing. You could feel his heartbeat on your back—at least, what you thought was a heartbeat. Maybe he was hosting a woodpecker in his chest.
“You know, I hate to be a pain, but I’m a terrible liar,” Kaveh whispered after a minute of listening to the ongoing murmuring in the hall.
“Yeah?” You weren’t sure what to expect. “You need to readjust again? Or do I smell like B.O.?”
“What kinda dichotomy is that? No, I… You know how I said I was distracted in class?”
“Uh-huh.”
“I was sort of wondering how I could get you alone. Today. Or, yesterday. That’s why I wasn’t paying attention.” He laughed a bit. “Sorry, that sounds creepy. You know how it is when everybody’s friends but nobody’s close, right? I was thinking about that.”
You pursed your lips.
“And now I… have you alone,” said Kaveh, gently.
You tried to regulate your tone as you asked, “What does that entail?”
You heard the door of the lab open as Kaveh began to reply. You processed none of his words, because you were busy thrusting your elbow very sharply into his ribcage. “Shh!” you managed, and then held your breath.
“Ow!” he cried. Oh, you were so busted.
“Bastard. We’re screwed,” you whispered.
The door to the closet swung open, and a security officer with a blinding flashlight and heavy eyelids looked you up and down. “Gross.”
“We weren’t—” “I’m sorry—” The blurts from you and Kaveh blurred together, and you couldn’t tell who said what.
“Just get going, alright? I’m too tired to lecture you.”
You both slunk out into the hall and the security officer followed you, locking up. Another officer stood waiting with his arms crossed. “Y/N and Kaveh! A likely pair.”
The first officer checked the windows, and locked those as well. “Hurry up, tods.”
“And don’t think you’re not getting written up,” the second added.
Kaveh rolled his head back as you both sauntered down the dark hall. “I’m actually going to get expelled,” he said. “And it’s your fault.”
“It’s not my fault you’re a pussy.” You patted his shoulder. “You’ll be okay. You’re a great student, I’m sure they don’t want to get rid of you that quickly.”
Kaveh froze. “Wait. Our models.”
“Shit.”
You both looked over your shoulders. The security officers were following you at a distance. One waved a hand to shoo you onward.
“I don’t think we’re getting those back,” you said.
“I’m gonna have to restart,” Kaveh moaned. “This blows. The teacher is so unforgiving with this kind of thing, I bet she won’t even care that we pulled all nighters to redo the project.”
“‘We’?” you repeated.
“Aren’t you gonna redo it?”
“I can’t, I don’t have any material left.”
“I have lots. You can come over, and I’ll make hot cocoa, and we will conquer this project. I’m sure my roommate won’t mind.”
You recalled his roommate being a stoic history student with a certain obstinacy towards Kaveh. You ignored this. At least he was willing to brave his roommate’s frustration for whatever this was. You replied, “Smooth, Blondie, real smooth.”
“I’m not—no, I really do just want to work on the project.”
“Lighten up.”
He, in response, exploded into yet another bright smile. You wonder how many times you’d missed out on seeing that during those seven minutes in that supply closet.
Note. surprisingly, this is my first explicitly romantic kaveh fic. i love that fellow he is so guy of all time he is constantly rotating in my brain like he's being microwaved
The crisp air of yet another wonderful summer night kisses your skin, leaving goosebumps in its wake. The temperature drops with each passing moment now that the sun has set for the day. The soft breeze cools your skin, cooling you from the sun’s earlier heat. You might even be cold if it wasn’t for Kaveh’s body being pressed up flush against yours.
His warmth replaces any loss as the day turns to night, keeping you warm, always, when with him. Even as a shiver runs up your spine when the cool night’s breeze wisps by, his hand is quick to follow, instantly soothing and restoring warmth to you.
He gently pushes you to lie back against the ground, resting you on the plush of the blanket separating you from the grass below. His body hovers above yours, slotted between your spread legs. His hand travels from your bicep to cup your face, cradling it in his palm. His eyes are half-lidded as he stares down at you adoringly. Even his gaze is full of warmth, filling you with a feeling that could be described as none other than love.
Brushing his lips against yours, you wait patiently for them to connect. His breath tickles you and mixes with your own.
He must be able to sense your desires, or maybe your attention was just so focused on him that you didn’t realize you were craning your head up to meet his mouth with yours, because he shushes you. “Shh,” he nudges his nose against yours and your head drops back down to the blanket. “Relax …”
You let out a shaky breath as you will your body to relax beneath him, your body going pliant in his hands. You can see the little smile tug at his lips when he notices this, creating butterflies in your tummy. You nuzzle your nose against his, relishing in the touch even as your body slowly begins to crave more of it.
Finally, after what felt like ages, his lips connect with yours. Soft and slow. And warm.
The way he kisses you never fails to take your breath away each and every time. His lips press to your so delicately, like you’re the most precious thing in the world to him. Yet, he’s also thorough. Taking his time to kiss every inch of your lips, exploring every crevice with his tongue, fully claiming your mouth with his until he knows the way you feel and taste better than anything else.
Your heart swells in your chest as his lips move over yours languidly. Never in a rush. Not with you.
Only he can render you so completely helpless to him. Ready to comply with his every word and doing whatever imaginable to see a smile form on his pretty face. He takes such good care of you, always wanting to make you feel good and special and loved.
You only hope you’re able to do the same for him.
Your hand slides down his front as your leg hooks on his hip, keeping him pressed against you even as your hand aims to sneak between your bodies. To where you feel him hard and hot against your pelvis, as if calling for your touch like a siren song.
A hand stops yours in its descent and his lips disconnect from yours. Your eyes flutter open to look up at him, eyebrows furrowed in a silent question.
“Baby,” he coos, and it almost sounds like he’s chastising you if you didn’t know any better. He keeps his face close to yours, nuzzling his nose against yours. “What are you doing my love?”
“Wanna make you feel good …” Your voice comes out soft. So soft, like a plea. The hand that isn’t in his grasp comes up to tuck some of his hair behind his ear as your eyes rove over his face, drinking in his beauty. “You’re so pretty, Kaveh. Let me make you feel good?”
The smile and chuckle followed by your request has your heart leaping in your chest. He looks down at you, that smile directed at you and everything you are. “You’re too cute.” He muses, voice melodic. He pecks your lips as he moves your hand to wrap around his neck and he bites back a laugh when you chase his lips after.
His hand that was holding yours, now free, travels down to your thigh, holding it against him to keep it hooked around his hip. His thumb starts to rub softly at the bear skin there. A weird combination of warmth settles deep within you the same time a shiver runs up your spine. This time as a result of him.
The touch has your attention focused on him, staring up at him intently as you wait for him to speak again. Hanging onto every detail of him that you can’t help but notice and admire.
His head drops down to press a kiss to the corner of your mouth. Then another at your jaw and another trailing down to your neck. Your head tilts on instinct. “But,” His tone causes you to shiver. “I told you to relax.” A kiss is pressed just below your ear. His breath fans across your sensitive skin. “Didn’t I?”
Your lips part as you release a shaky breath. You give him a slight nod. “You did.”
You can feel him smile against the side of your neck.
“So, that means you gotta relax for me.” He presses a one final lingering kiss to your neck before rising to hover above you again. His eyes scan yours as his hand glides higher on your thigh. “You can do that for me. Can’t you?”
You nod.
“Good.” He smiles at you, lowering his head until his lips are brushing against yours once again. “Just, lay down, love. And let me do you how you deserve it.”

a/n: much love to @birinboom for helping me choose this title and letting me annoy her with my banners for hours. smooches
you dont have to live in the same house as kaveh and alhaitham to know kaveh's morning routines of which he has several. sometimes he'll wake up early- be it a rare occassion- and peacefully make some coffee or review a few blueprint drafts then get ready for the day. others he's a bit more speedy, already dressed by the time he makes it into the kitchen for coffee and already having mehrak at his beck and call so they can get a move on.
but mostly, it consists of him oversleeping from hardly getting any sleep at all, rushing out of his room with his hands pushing the last of his red bobby pins in, yanking mehrak's handle with anything but an apology, and hoping that anything he needs for the day is already inside the sentient briefcase. he'd get a coffee somewhere at the akademia, or from some client if they're so kind, or even from you if you happen to run into him.
he never remembers everything though. most infamously, his house keys that are usually hanging by the door or somehow end up in alhaitham's possession. on those days, when you wake up in your own home devoid of all the chaos a morning with kaveh could include, you somehow always know when it's one of those days when he would be locked outside with no way in.
'alhaitham,' you call out to the grey-haired bookworm when you see him in passing through the akademia's halls on his way to work no doubt. he stops his strides and looks over his bare shoulder to see you coming over, hands full of material for your daily tasks.
'what is it?'
'do you have kaveh's keys today?' you ask quietly in the halls, making sure no one was within earshot since kaveh tried so adamantly to keep his living at alhaithams a secret.
alhaitham didn't verbally answer you, but he did pull out his own grey key revealing nothing attached to it. if he had it, normally they'd be stuck together by the keyrings. you nod and hum, waving to him before dismissing yourself since you didn't need to keep him from his work. only two options left:
kaveh forgot it at home or your gut was telling you wrong... for once.
you knew that your partner had a few meetings with clients today, but you weren't exactly privy to where those meetings would take place. whether it be their homes or somewhere like puspa cafe for the reason that it was surrounded by the noise of the public.
you decided to wait until later on in the afternoon to continue your investigation- he wouldn't notice until then anyways. besides, you had work to do today as well and he'd feel bad if he knew you spent your time running around looking for him instead of working. he didn't want you to fall behind on your tasks at his expense.
the said tasks at hand were fairly mundane and didn't pertain to anything of great stress. working for the akademia was stressful all on its own, but it could be worse. luckily, your relationship with alhaitham- the acting grand sage- was smooth enough that when you needed his approval for something he was quick to hear you out and then make a decision. you lightly chuckle at the memories of kaveh finding out he had rejected something from you for whatever reason and chewing his roommate's ear off later because of it.
kaveh could be high-strung about certain things- your duties and work for example- even when he didn't need to be. so you had advised him that any further pressing on why the acting grand sage told you 'no' (which shouldn't happen in kaveh's perfect world), wouldn't be necessary. the rejection made sense when you inquired further on it and all you would need to do was make some adjustments and try again.
it was the same type of drive you wish he'd have with his own stubborn clients. when something in a blueprint doesn't or can't work out due to literal safety and impossibility, you wish he'd just tell them so and just say no. though almost always, he caves. he's proud of his work, but you also know it weighs heavily on him as a 'genius architect'.
that overloaded, perfectionist mindset was exactly why he always forgets the small things not pertaining to work.
the middle of the day comes and just before it goes by with the tick of the clock hand, your name is called from afar. you could see your blonde worry-wart coming your way with mehrak close behind him. you stop in your strides in order for him to catch up with you and once he's within arm's distance he's slinging one of his over your shoulders to give you a small side-squeeze.
'running errands?' he asks before he's taking the books and files out of your arms and nods his head in the direction you were previously going. you learned long ago to not fight him on when he takes things from you so he could carry them in your stead. your arms had started going numb from the distance between your workspace and alhaitham's office where they were soon going to be delivered anyways.
'yup. documents and files for the acting grand sage to go over and review.'
'eugh,' kaveh shivers, 'can't you just refer to him by name? i doubt he cares if you drop the titles when you aren't even around him.'
'it's not very professional, kaveh. when im working i need to address him properly.'
'i dont see why. he wouldn't correct you if you just used his name.'
'he'd correct you though.'
'yeah to get under my skin!'
you laugh at the rise you start to get out of your lover before you lightly grabbed onto his bicep using it to tether you both together while his hands were occupied with your workload. the rest of the trip was filled with mindless, idle chatter- his favorite kind when with you. the moment you knocked on alhaitham's office door he had half a mind to stay out in the hall, but he couldn't just give your paperwork back to you. he had to see the duty of carrying your things for your through, even if that means getting a few rips from his grey-haired roommate.
'here are the documents i told you about before. they just need brief reviews and filing.'
'thank you,' alhaitham told you without so much as looking up to you. he knew kaveh was with you though. 'kaveh,' he started, 'y/n came to ask me if i had your keys this morning.'
kaveh basically dropped the paperwork on the desk since the acting grand sage decided to bring that up in the middle of the blond setting them down.
'they have a knack for suspecting when you have forgotten them,' alhaitham continued while kaveh distressingly looked to make sure no one was listening in while aggressively shushing him. alhaitham knew how to push his buttons.
still, kaveh was quick to search his person while you stood beside him amused. he pats his pockets and pants down, and even mehrak's digital expression twists, idly hovering nearby. acting anxious on his master's behalf. kaveh looks at you bewildered when his search comes up empty.
'how do you always-'
'i just do.' you answer him. 'dont worry, if the acting grand sage is kept busy you can stay at my home until he's back.'
'you're more than welcome to keep him,' the rip to kaveh went discarded as the blond just kissed your check in appreciation. 'please keep that out of my office,' alhaitham sighed. kaveh just sneered childishly at his previous underclassmen.
'consider that payback.'
'for what exactly?'
'oh, 'for what', he asks. for your little attempt to pester me just a moment ago!'
'oh, my apologies. i thought you hadn't heard me.'
'well, i did!'
'boys,' you intervene before they both get too worked up. 'i don't want to listen to you both squabble, so if that's all you need from me acting grand sage, i'll be going.'
'yes,' alhaitham sets his sights back to you, 'that'll be fine. thank you.' he thanks you again before you turn and start making your way out. kaveh makes it a point to grab your hand and swing your interlocked limbs dramatically on the way out, just to show the other man what for.
on other days, you're lucky enough for alhaitham to allow you to stay over with kaveh. he allows it for a couple of reasons: it keeps kaveh from hammering away on projects all night because he won't let you sleep by yourself and you have a tendency to placate the blond so the mornings can run much more smoothly than if it were just the two of them. also, you make coffee for both of them and any chance he gets to drink coffee he didn't have to go through the effort to brew himself gives him just a bit more time to himself and his books.
you were standing in the kitchen of their shared home in one of kaveh's open-back shirts. you had tried one on for fun once since they were so interestingly designed and found the open fabric was nice to sleep in since it didn't trap the stuffy sumeru night air.
as usual, alhaitham was the first awake and walking around. you shared sounds of morning humming before you give him his coffee and he meanders off somewhere to read. not long after, kaveh was waking up and stumbling bleary-eyed into the kitchen lured by the smell of coffee. you also hand him his mug of coffee with too much creamer in it and he receives it along with a peck to your lips.
'hmm,' he hums still groggy. 'your lips are warm.'
'well, i did drink come coffee myself. probably from that.'
'really? i didn't taste it.' he teases, wanting to try and 'taste' the coffee you drank before alhaitham shouted from the other room.
'take it out of my kitchen..!'
you spend the morning sharing kaveh's space and helping him get dressed and ready. he let you braid his hair and place his feather behind his ear. he helps you get dressed and flatten out any uncomfortable wrinkles in your clothes. along the morning quiet, he would place kisses anywhere he could. on your nape as he helps adjust your collar. your shoulder before you pull on your shirt after discarding his. on your wrist when you're braiding his hair messing it up in the process so you have to start over.
neither of you would talk much, but the messages conveyed through actions and small kisses are enough for an early day. you both hear alhaitham leave which lets kaveh loop his arm around your waist and swing you around playfully to his chest and hold you there for a bit before you both finally finish up.
just before kaveh leaves ahead of you since he doesn't let you open the door yourself, you snag the long, dark ends of his hair and effectively stop him. he whines before turning to you.
'aren't you forgetting something?' he racks his brain and even merak looks confused behind his shoulder with digitally upturned brows. he runs a quick mental checklist before a look of understanding crosses his face. he steps back over the threshold and the toes of his boots tap against yours. you weren't expecting the sudden proximity as you lean backward and almost stumble before his arm is wound around your back and his other hand gently guides your chin up.
behind the walls of the entrance and cracked open door, he kisses you sweetly. once on your lips, then the corners of your lips, then your cheeks, and then one more peck to your lips. he looks at you satisfied and only leans his chest away from you as you lift your arm.
'that was very flattering, but i meant these.' you both start laughing at the sight of his keys dangling between the two of you. his small keychain bearing witness to the overly affectionate kisses early in the morning.
'thanks, sweetheart,' he tells you before gently taking them and placing them safely in his pocket. he kisses you one more time on the forehead and finally starts to make his way out with you to start his day.
at least he didn't forget them today since you were there to remind him. he can only wait on pins and needles for the day he can do this in his own private home with you and not one where alhaitham ruins the mood all the time.
Request: Hii ! I'd like to request Kaveh being comforted by a usually quiet but extremely affectionate S/O? :,D basically hurt/comfort !! they get a bit shy and embarrassed expressing themself a bit but is extremely caring and extra soft/affectionate to Kaveh whenever he's stressed out (and drunk-) happy new year too! ♡
A/N: I tried for shy and embarrassed, but I'm not sure how close I got. I prioritized the affectionate part over the embarrassed part
Summary: Kaveh writes a letter to his mother. You comfort him when he can't find the words to say
Kaveh x gn!reader
And rode off into the sunset to live happily ever after.
You close the book you were reading only to frown. The tip-tapping and muttering you usually hear this time of night is non-existent.
You set the book to the side and make your way up the stairs to Kaveh’s workroom.
As is so often the case, he’s left the door open for you to come and go as you will.
You stop just inside the door. Your boyfriend is bent over a project of some sort, the feather in his hair drooping while several strands of hair fall from his braid.
He scribbles notes on a piece of paper before scratching them out in a fit of frustration.
Judging by the pile of crumpled up paper to the side, this has been going on for quite some time.
You approach Kaveh and before he can grab another piece of paper, you cover his hand with yours.
Kaveh looks up at you, his red eyes wavering. “Y/n…”
“You can take a break, you know. Whatever project you’re doing doesn’t have to be done tonight.”
Kaveh shakes his head, but leans back in his chair. “I’m not working on a project. I’m writing a letter to my Mother.”
You tilt your head, waiting for him to continue his explanation.
“I want her to meet you. Whether she comes here or we to take a trip to Fontaine for her to meet---if you want to. I did---”
You put a finger over his lips. “Shhh. No fritzing. I wouldn’t mind. I know you miss her. And I want to meet her.”
“I just… can’t think of the words. I don’t know what she’d say about the debt and Alhaitham. Or the events of the extravaganza.”
“I think you think too much. Your mother loves you. Just as I do.”
You tuck a piece of hair behind Kaveh’s ear and straighten his feather. “Take your time writing. Write from the heart. And don’t be afraid.”
Kaveh laughs and wraps his arms around you. “What would I do without you?”
“Be miserable and constantly bicker with Alhaitham.”
“Hmmm. Very true.”
“If you want I can keep you company while you write. I can bring up a chair and the book Alhaitham lent me.”
“Please.”
You bring up a chair and the aforementioned book, and sit with him until he’s finished.
By the time he’s done, it’s well past midnight.
He folds the letter and seals it, setting it to the side so he can send it off tomorrow.
“Done?” You ask.
“Finally.”
“Good. I’m looking forward to meeting her.”
“You think she’ll agree?”
“She loves you, Kaveh. Why would she not?”
“If you say so.”
You stand and take Kaveh’s hand. “I do say so. Let’s go to bed now. Otherwise you’re going to have a hard time staying awake at your meeting tomorrow.”
Kaveh lets you pull him along, wincing at the mention of his client meeting tomorrow.
The two of you curl up in bed. Just before you drift off to sleep, you hear a soft thank you and feel a kiss pressed to the top of your head.
