Summary: Freshman year, Ally drags Kaitlyn to the Kappas’ New Year’s Eve party. Wearing a sparkly red dress, she hopes to impress someone unexpected.
Author’s Note: Yo what up bitches and happy last day of 2018. I told y’all this would be out so here yah go! Hope you enjoy and hopefully, the last day of 2018 isn’t all that bad. Oh also @crazzyplays requested I do something with MC liking Becca so hopefully you enjoy this!
“Why are you so determined to get into the Kappas’ New Year party?” Kaitlyn asks as she crosses her arms over her chest. She shivers in the cold as little snowflakes fall into her hair adding to the snow near her feet.
“Because it just seems like it would be fun,” Ally says. Her knees buckle slightly in her tall heels, the cold really getting to her. “Don’t the Kappas always throw the best parties?”
“We’ve been to like two,” Kaitlyn reminds her. “We could easily just go back to the dorm and hang out with the rest of our roommates.”
“All we’re going to do is drink cheap beer, play truth or truth, and end up missing the ball drop.”
“Hey! You love truth or truth!”
Ally gives Kaitlyn a sideways glance, shutting her up immediately. Ally looks around the people in front of her, stretching up to hopefully see above the sea of heads. She can almost see the door in front of them, the long stretch of people seeming almost endless.
“Okay, besides the cheap beer and truth or truth, why don’t you just want to spend the holiday in our dorm?” Kaitlyn begins to grill her best friend.
Ally ignores her as Kaitlyn rambles. She continues to try to look over the people in front of her. Several of them are already drunk and Ally wouldn’t be surprised if they were turned away at the door. Ally makes out a flash of blonde at the entryway and her heart skips a beat. She sighs as she realizes it’s Madison, her upbeat mannerisms show through the crowd.
“Oh my gosh,” Kaitlyn gasps. “You totally have a crush on Bec—”
“Shhh!!!” Ally covers Kaitlyn’s mouth. Her rambling is no longer background noise.
“Mmmm hm!!!!” Kaitlyn struggles to speak against Ally’s hand and she points to her as if to tell Kylie her thought is correct.
“Ugh!” Ally groans. She makes a split decision in her head. She grabs Kaitlyn’s hand and frees her mouth. “Just… come on!”
Ally stomps through the snow, passing people who have been standing in the motionless line for who knows how long. They glare at the two girls as they pass. Kaitlyn struggles to keep up with Ally and she wonders how Ally isn’t tripping in her stilettos. Madison slowly becomes the center of Ally’s view and she flashes on a smile for the host.
“Madison!” Ally squeals and she throws her arms around her before taking Kaitlyn’s hand once more. “It’s so good to see you! Happy New Year!”
“Oh hi Ally and Kaitlyn!” Madison beams. “Happy New Year!”
“How was your break?” Ally asks. As Madison speaks, Ally switches Kaitlyn from her left hand to her right, pulling her forward through the door. Kaitlyn almost trips on the lip of the doorway as she fumbles through. She glares at Ally but Ally continues to distract Madison.
“Well, it was so nice catching up with you,” Ally says as she inches further into the entryway. “We’ll have to catch up some more! Have a great night!”
Ally pushes Kaitlyn inside and pulls her away before Madison has a chance to notice them sneaking in. Not that Madison would notice anyway.
“I was so right about the Becca thing!” Kaitlyn’s voice is low as they see Darren and they slip out of their coats. They say hello and hand him their coats before dashing further into the crowd of people in the foyer.
“I never said anything about the Becca thing,” Ally hisses. “Why would I like someone that’s tried to ruin my life?”
“Opposites attract.”
Ally throws a glare over her shoulder as she leads Kaitlyn further into the mass of people. They find a table with glasses of champagne flutes. Once cluttered with plastic flutes, the tables are now lacking them. Ally grabs two and hands one to Kaitlyn. They click the plastic together and it makes a dull sound. Ally chugs hers down before Kaitlyn can bring the flute to her lips.
“Slow down there,” Kaitlyn jokes with a half-hearted laugh. “Are you trying to forget the last hour of the year?”
“What? I’m not allowed to have some fun?” She grabs two more champagne flutes and throws them back and grabs her fourth one.
“Okay well you’re taking champagne like you’re taking shots,” Kaitlyn says and she grabs the fifth flute out of Ally’s hand as she finishes her fourth. “And the way you're dressed suggests you’re clearly trying to impress someone.”
Kaitlyn points out Ally’s sparkly red dress. It’s fairly revealing, sleeveless arms and a plunging neckline. It’s also backless and the red matches the color under her Louis Vuitton heels. It’s clear that this is something Ally would never wear. That is unless she’s trying to impress someone. Her makeup is also heavier than normal. A dramatic smokey eye and nude lipstick she worked so hard on a few hours before. Kaitlyn’s outfit is more conservative and something closer to what she would normally wear. With combat boots and a pair of black jeans. The only thing out of the ordinary is a green military jacket she got for Christmas a week before. Although, she’s gotten lots of wear out of it since then.
“I can’t look nice every once and a while?” Ally asks and she snatches the champagne flute out of Kaitlyn’s hand.
“Okay well, if you’re not trying to impress anyone, specifically Becca, then you wouldn’t freak out that she’s right behind you talking to Logan.” Kaitlyn nods behind Ally who flips around to see if her friend is lying.
Becca stands behind Ally, looking up at Logan and saying something she can’t hear. She’s wearing a black sparkly dress with long sleeves, the neckline coming all the way up to her collarbone. Her makeup is more dramatic than usual, featuring a new pair of fake lashes and red lipstick. Her shoes are black knee high lace up boots that show off the muscles in her calves. Ally turns back around to face Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn smiles and points at her cheeks as she tries not to giggle.
“Look at your freaking cheeks!” Kaitlyn whispers in a loud tone. Ally puts her hands up to her cheeks and feels how hot they are. The red peaks through her foundation and she tries to get the color to go back down with no such luck.
“Okay!” Ally finally confesses. She grabs another flute of champagne She can feel the buzz of the alcohol in her arms and legs. At this rate she won’t remember anything when she wakes up in the morning. “Maybe I have a little crush on Becca.”
“A little?” Kaitlyn points out, nodding her head at Ally’s outfit.
“Kaitlyn!” Ally’s voice raises a little above the crowd, getting the attention of a few people around them. Luckily Becca is too clueless to notice. “You know what? How about we go dance?”
Kaitlyn is dragged by Ally as she pulls her into the other room. The thudding of the bass is loud enough so they can’t hear themselves think, let alone hear each other have a conversation. They dance for a while, some of their champagne falling out of their glasses as they twirl each other around. It splashes on their feet and mixes with the rest of the sticky floor. Many people are already too drunk, falling over and catching each other as they take sips from flasks that more than likely don’t hold beer or champagne.
A short while later, the music comes to a close as someone announces the approach of the new year. The drunken college students cheer and they gather around the flat screen TV as the NYE ball drop in New York City comes up on the screen. Chatting and last minute ditch efforts to find someone to kiss at midnight go around the room. People share their resolutions, their hopes, and their dreams for the new year. While they all seem optimistic, they know it won’t last through January. Ally taps Kaitlyn on the shoulder and speaks loudly into her ear for her to hear over the noise of the people.
“I’m going to get a drink do you want anything?” She asks.
Kaitlyn shakes her head. “Make sure to get back before the ball drop!”
Ally nods and half stumbles over to the drink area. Lemon drops are set up where the champagne used to be. They must have run out of the sparkling wine, Ally thinks to herself. She grabs herself a lemon drop and takes a long sip. She hasn’t seen Becca since they walked in and Kaitlyn made a point for Ally to notice her. She thinks about how she’s probably hooking up with a Chris look-alike somewhere in the Kappa house. Upset and hurt--even though they weren’t a thing, to begin with--Ally downs her lemon drop and gets a new one. The chanting of the one minute mark rings from the other room as the group of people gets overly excited. Ally makes her way back. As she stumbles in her heels, and groups of people struggle to make it into the other room, Ally trips and bumps into someone, the contents of her drink flying over the person.
“Are you serious?!” Becca screeches as she sips around. “Who the hell let you in here?!” She puffs as she realizes who spilled the drink over her too expensive and too new dress.
“What’s your problem with me?” Ally asks. Anger fills her head as the apology on her lips disappears. “Why are you so mean to me? What have I ever done to you?”
“You’re clearly always in my way.” She gestures down to her soaking dress. “I’m surprised anyone actually likes you.”
The crowd behind them begins to chant down the last thirty seconds of the year.
“I’m surprised I actually like you.” Ally begins to move past her but Becca stops her.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Ally can smell the alcohol on Becca’s breath.
“Are you really that clueless? Why else would I be hanging around the Kappa house if I didn’t have some sort of feelings for you? Why would I come here if I didn’t like you? Clearly, I’m stupid to think that things between us could actually work out.”
Ally begins to move away from Becca with the last five seconds of the year beginning to come to a close. Becca grabs Ally’s hand and turns her to face her. As the year ends and it turns into the new year, Becca grabs Ally’s face and kisses her hard on the lips. The taste of alcohol and the sweet taste of Becca’s lipstick hits Ally’s lips. She can’t help but move her hands to Becca’s hips and pull her close. They finally break apart, the cheers of the people around them slowly come back to them. They realize they aren’t alone anymore.
“I’ll… I’ll be in my room,” Becca says. Her cheeks are red and she rushes up the stairs to her room. Her blonde hair crosses over her face as she looks down to Ally. Becca winks and gives her a nod toward her room and soon Ally is standing by herself with endless amounts of people hurrying to grab drinks and forget the rest of the day.
“There you are!” Kaitlyn finally catches up to Ally. “Why are your lips red?”
The Wedding Series Part 2: I get to love you (Sean x Mc)
Part 1
Pairings: Sean x Mc (Taylor)
Word Count: 4,361
Rating: Nothin’ but Fluff
Summary: After the vows are read and the newly wed seal their love with an old tradition and a kiss, it’s time to party!
And remember: if you like it, please reblog it!
Taylor stepped out of her limo and into the surprisingly warm spring sun. She was whisked inside the barn they had rented out in the middle of a beautiful field with hay and other wild flowers. The ceremony outside was set up with gorgeous pink and white flowers and a twig made arch with tulle and rose petals. Guests walked around outside as they greeted one another and prepared for the wedding to begin. The bridesmaids and groomsman stood in the barn with Taylor, Sean and Craig already stood at the end of the isle.
Diego handed Taylor her bouquet of flowers, which included peonies, baby’s breath, and sprigs of lavender. She lightly jumped up and down as she heard the guests take their seats and the wedding party began to come together. Grace and Aleister lined up together first with Zahra and Raj right behind, Estela and Jake stood next to each other, with Michelle and Elijah next and Quinn stood behind them all and but in front of Taylor. Diego stood behind Taylor and he held the rings and was ready to fix Taylor’s dress as she began to walk down the isle. Tricia found her place next to Taylor and smiled at her, her eyes glowed, as she looked the bride up and down.
“Thank you for walking me down the isle,” Taylor said to her as the music began to play that welcomed the wedding party down the isle.
“Of course,” Tricia said as she moved a stray piece of hair from Taylor’s face. “You’re going to be apart of the family, might as welcome you in style.”
The wedding party moved forward and Taylor felt her heart pound in her chest. Just beyond the barn doors was her groom, and even though it had been less than 24 hours since she last saw him, she was excited to see him once again at the end of the isle and officially tie the knot. The wedding march played while the group moved forward and Taylor stopped right at the edge of the doors for Quinn to finish walking down the isle and for the guests to stand in her honor.
The entire room paused as Quinn made it down the isle. They all finally stood and brought their attention to the other end of the isle, opposite from Sean. Sean took a deep breath as Taylor and Tricia stood out into the setting sun. His face lit up as he saw his blushing bride, a smile spread across his face and he couldn’t help but have his eyes water a little bit as she made her way toward him. She gave him a smile back and a nervous but excited giggle escaped her lips as she wanted to be down the isle already.
Taylor handed her flowers to Quinn as she reached the end of the isle and Tricia quickly kissed her on the cheek before she went over to her son and kissed him on the cheek as well. Diego snuck to the end of the line of groomsmen and held onto the rings until it was time for them to be handed over to Sean and Taylor. Tricia took her seat and the officiant cleared his throat to begin the ceremony.
Taylor turned toward Sean and really saw him for the first time. She smiled up at him as they took each other’s hands. He smiled down at her, tears gleamed in his eyes as the wedding officiant spoke but neither of them heard him. They were lost in each other’s eyes, they tried to take each other all in and they tried to not lose kiss each other right then and there. Taylor felt Sean squeeze her hands as he gave her a subtle wink. She hopped from one foot to another with excitement, her smile and her happiness only increased the longer she looked up at her groom.
“The vows?” the two of them heard and Taylor turned toward Quinn while Sean turned toward Craig and they both were handed a piece of paper with their vows written on them. Sean gestured for Taylor to go first and she giggled as she involuntarily grabbed his hand after she opened her paper.
“Sean,” she began, a lump in the back of her throat rose and she tried to push it back down. “I had no idea what love was until I met you. I had never experienced something so thrilling, scary, and amazing all at the same time. I always felt like something was missing from my life, and when I met you I realized it was you and it was your love for me. You have been with me through some of the most difficult times of my life; you’ve helped me overcome so much more than you will ever know. And I know you will continue to help me overcome every obstacle in my life no matter how minor or intense that obstacle may be. When I first met you on that plane, I never in a million years thought you would pick me to marry. To hold your hand through thick and thin, to experience this crazy thing called life. And I never imagined you would love me more than I thought was ever possible. Because of you, I know what love is, and I know that my life wouldn’t be worth living if you weren’t with me by my side. I can’t wait to grow and learn with you and to forever call you my husband.”
Sean wiped a tear that rolled down Taylor’s face and she laughed as she finished her vows. He squeezed her hand as she recollected herself and he cleared his throat to being his speech. He barely kept it together and Taylor could tell.
“Taylor,” he began, his voice broke and he covered it with a cough. “I was in a dark place when you met me. I was stressed with going pro and finishing up school and I really wanted to make everyone in my life proud. But you brought the light back into my life that I had been seeking for so long. I knew right as I ran into you on that plane that you were the light I needed, you were the thing I needed to keep me strong and to stop myself from beating myself up at the smallest of things. I’m blessed and so lucky that you picked me, out of every single person in the world you could have picked, you decided to pick me to continue our journey through life. I was scared to fall in love with you so fast and so hard but at the end of the day, it felt right to fall in love with you the way that I did and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m really the luckiest man in the world to have such a strong, compassionate, smart, stunning, and amazing woman in my life. I know you will continue to be my light in my dark moments and I hope that I will be your light too. I can’t wait to follow you through the rest of our lives and have crazy and adventurous journeys that hopefully don’t end in us saving the world. Thank you for giving me the chance to experience love again and thank you for marrying a silly guy like me.”
It was time for Taylor to wipe a tear off of Sean’s face and he chuckled as he took her hand and brought it to his lips. Everyone in the audience dapped at their eyes as the ceremony continued. Diego handed the wedding officiant the rings as soon as he asked for them and Taylor and Sean slipped them onto each other’s fingers before they turned toward the audience. The officiant pulled out a pink ribbon, the same pink ribbon they had at their handfasting ceremony back on the island. The officiant tied their hands together.
“This ribbon,” he said. “Symbolizes the bond these two have for each other. Today, Sean and Taylor bind their love for one another using this ribbon, showing their devotion, love, and connection they have for one another. Sean, do you take Taylor to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
“I do,” Sean said as he looked down at Taylor with a smile.
“And Taylor, do you take Sean to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
“I do!” she squealed as she hit him with the side of her hip.
“Then I know pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss the bride!”
The crowd cheered as they leaned into one another, their lips met with huge smiles on their faces and tears that stained their cheeks. They stayed like that together for a moment before they pulled away and looked at the people around them. Everyone cheered, Quinn handed Taylor her flowers back before Sean and Taylor made their way back down the isle with music in the background. They made their way down and back into the barn where large bulb lights were strung through out, lace and tulle strung about in the dim lighting, pink, lavender, and white flowers were spread out on the tables for a rustic look.
The guests entered the room and were greeted with cocktails and appetizers as the wedding party was asked to come outside for pictures. The photographer gathered the wedding party and they took pictures in different areas around the rustic barn. They all laughed and joked as they took pictures together before she had them split off. Sean and Taylor were asked to take a break while she got all of the bridesmaids and groomsmen together, including Diego of course.
“You look stunning,” Sean whispered to her as they watched their friends take funny pictures.
“You don’t look too bad yourself,” Taylor teased as she hit her hip against Sean’s.
“How in the world did I get so lucky?” he asked as he brought his gaze from his friends down to his wife.
“Are you sure I’m not the lucky one?” she asked him and he gave her a chuckle before he kissed her on the top of the head.
“When can we remove this, by the way?” he raised their hands that were still bound together with the pink ribbon. “I love holding your hand but this is getting a little sweaty.”
“Didn’t I tell you?” she said with a laugh. “We have to be tied together for a year and a day to prove our love for one another.”
Sean laughed as he kissed her on the lips. “If we were really bound together for a year and a day I think one of us would kill each other. And my bet is you’d kill me first.”
Taylor laughed with him, their lips pressed together again. “I think you’re right. I won’t mind seeing you every single day for a year and a day but I think I might go insane if I had to be this close to you for that long.”
The photographer called them over for them to take some couple shots while the wedding party relaxed for a bit. They took the standard wedding picture poses. They held each other close and kissed, they took one where Sean dipped Taylor low, they took a few of just their bonded hands, they did couple close up, and a couple far away. They matter sure to keep everything simple and elegant, something they would want to look back on in fifty years and not be embarrassed by.
Tricia and Elijah then began to take pictures with them before Taylor stepped out and it was just the three of them that took a small family photo. Elijah and Tricia then stepped out of the wedding party photos for the original gang to get one good picture of all of them, the first one of the twelve of them since La Huerta. They finished up the photo shoot before they headed back inside where the DJ announced the names of the people in the wedding party before he announced Taylor and Sean for the first time.
They walked in, their hands still bound together, as the room cheered for them and the dance floor cleared. They removed the ribbon as their first song dance began to play. I get to love you played through the speakers as they took each other in their arms, the ribbon in Taylor’s hand and they would save it for later. They waltzed around the dance floor with their friends and family around them.
“I think every person in the universe is jealous of me right now,” Sean said to her. “Because I just married the perfect woman.”
“Well then everyone is just going to be jealous of both of us,” she told him. “Because I just married the perfect man.”
“Are we really going to fight about who’s really the perfect one out of both of us?” he gave her a smiling frown. “Are we really going to be that couple?”
Taylor laughed as she leaned up to kiss him and they continued to dance with the music in the background. “Maybe people are just going to secretly hate us instead of secretly be jealous of us.”
“Oh gosh we’re going to be that couple,” Sean snickered. “No one’s going to invite us to game nights anymore.”
“Then we’ll just buy ourselves some new friends,” she joked. “We got the budget to spend some money on some fake friends.”
Sean laughed as he pulled her close and the song came to a close. Elijah and Tricia stepped onto the dance floor. Sean gave Taylor a quick kiss on the cheek before Elijah accompanied her in the daughter-father dance and Tricia joined Sean for the mother-son dance. Everything Has Changed by Taylor Swift began to play as the two couples swayed to the music, happy in their own thoughts.
“Thank you for dancing with me,” Taylor said to Elijah after a moment.
“Of course,” he replied with a smile. “It’s my honor. You make my brother happy and I haven’t seen him this happy in awhile. It’s really my pleasure.”
Taylor turned over her shoulder to look at Sean who led his mother in a dance. He laughed at something she said and his eyes crinkled in the corners. His smile lit up the entire room, and he threw his head back ever so slightly. He truly did seem happy. The smile on his face felt real and genuine. She had seen that smile a few times before. The first time was on the island when they played Marco Polo in the pool. The second time was their handfasting. The third time was when they escaped the island and he got to see his mom and Elijah for the first time in who knew how long. And then there was this time, at their wedding while he read his vows and while he danced with his mom. He caught Taylor’s eye across the room and he gave him a friendly wink. Taylor smiled and she turned back to Elijah, the music slowly began to come to an end.
“Well, I’m glad I make him happy,” Taylor said. “He makes me happier than he’ll ever know.”
They danced together for a few more moments before the song ended and Elijah brought Taylor back to Sean before the four of them left the dance floor. Everyone found their tables, the wedding party sat at the first long table that faced the dance floor and the rest of the guests. Chattered begun around everyone as dinner was served. Savory plates of salmon with wild rice sat in front of some guests while other guests preferred a hearty steak with roasted carrots. Several guests would get up and head to the open bar on the other side of the room to refill their drinks. Some of them would stop half way there and chat with people they recognized from other events or didn’t see each other in awhile.
The wedding party’s table was given their choice of white wine or red wine and their glasses were refilled before they could get low. Sean nudged Taylor lightly with his elbow as he dug into his steak. She gave him a flirty look as she kneed him underneath the table and took a bit of her salmon. They quickly ate before they decided to make their rounds, their glasses of wines in their hands. They walked to each table together and accepted compliments from Sean’s family and hugged old friends from college. They dodged the question of where Taylor’s family was with the simple answer that they couldn’t afford the trip down but they would have a little ceremony in a few months when they were going to go see them. Although that was a complete lie.
After Taylor had found out she was willed into existence, it had been hard for her to accept the fact that she really had no family. Well, unless you want to count Vaanu but he was the island’s sprit not a real physical being that could attend a wedding. But Sean had helped her come to terms with the fact that the gang was her real family. They had needed her when times were tough and that was enough for her. Sure she wanted a brother or a sister to tease and a mom or dad to go shopping with, but she could find that within her friends. It had been tough on her, but she knew everyone around her was there to support her and be there for her.
“Do you want a drink, my queen?” Sean asked as he looked down at Taylor’s empty glass.
“That would be perfect, my king,” she said with a smile as she handed him her empty glass and he quickly headed to the bar.
He returned a moment later with a colorful drink in one hand and dark and stormy in the other. He handed her the colorful drink and the cheered as they headed back to their table to prepare for the maid of honor and best man speeches. They both sat down as Diego took the side of his knife and hit his glass to gather everyone’s attention. All eyes turned to him as the room around him went silent.
“Hello everyone,” Diego began as he spoke into the microphone that was provided to him. “If you don’t know me my name is Diego and I’m best friends with the bride, Taylor. I wasn’t a groomsmen or a bridesmaid. Taylor and Sean trusted me enough to plan their entire wedding and that is the biggest honor I could have been given. But they did tell me I was allowed to make a speech so here it goes. Taylor, before I met you I was really lost. I was a weird college student who made too many movie references and had little to no friends. But you were there for me in a time of need. You held my hand when I needed it and your protected me from any evil that came my way. You have always been supportive of me and my life and you are the best friend I have been asking for. You are the strongest person I know and without you I’m not sure where I would be in life. I don’t think I could have finished college and I don’t think I would have gone on the craziest adventure of my life to La Huerta and I wouldn’t have met the most amazing people in the world. I’m honored I get to call you my best friend and I’m even more honored that I get to see you marry the perfect man. And Sean, if you ever hurt my dear Taylor, we’re going to have a problem. But I’ll hire a hitman because you’re like twice my size. Cheers to the bride and groom!”
The audience laughed at Diego’s subtle joke and applauded him as he finished. He sat back down after he gave a hug to Taylor and Sean. He handed the microphone over to Quinn who stood and waited for the crowd to become silent once again. She smiled over at Taylor and Sean before she began her speech.
“Hi friends,” she said with a bubbly laugh. “My name is Quinn and I’m the maid of honor. When Taylor asked me to be her maid of honor I was overjoyed and I will admit I did cry a little bit. I met Taylor on a plane to La Huerta. She was the only face I didn’t recognize on the plane but she made an effort to come and say hello to me. We stepped off that plane, confused and worried but you were the smiling face with hope and you always made sure we were happy and taken care of. You let me rant and vent to you even though we barely knew each other. You were and still are the kindest soul I have met in years. I couldn’t help but cry a little bit when you walked down the isle today. I didn’t think you would be able to meet someone that was perfect for you. Someone who is strong, ambitious, and a leader just like you. But of course, you happened to find the perfect man for your life. And just like what Diego said, Sean, if you dare to hurt our best friend, you’ll be in a world of pain. But we all know you and you would be the last one to ever hurt her. But thank you, Sean, for loving her more than any of us ever could. And with that, I’ll turn it over to the best man, Craig.”
Everyone clapped as Quinn finished up her and Sean leaned over to give Taylor a quick kiss on the cheek before the mic was handed over to Craig. He cleared his throat before he began.
“Hi guys, I’m Craig,” he started. “I’m the best man and also best friends with Sean. It really came to no shock to me that he asked me to be his best man. We’ve been best friends since the first football practice at Hartfeld our freshman year. He was this cool, suave guy that I really looked up to. I was awkward with a bowl cut and weird glasses that didn’t fit my head. I was really shy too and didn’t think I belonged within the football world surrounded by cool guys like Sean. But he encouraged me to be a better person and to try harder. He helped me stay in football and he helped me with every little thing. He was there for me when I needed someone to talk to and he helped me face my fears. He was the one that encouraged me to apply to the dream to go to La Huerta and I’m glad I went because if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have seen my best friend fall in love with the perfect woman. I was skeptical when I first met Taylor, I knew she was crushing hard on Sean and I just wanted him to be happy and to be with someone as strong and adventurous as him. But after I got to know her some more, I realized she was the person Sean had been looking for all of these years. She had shown him compassion, empathy, and love like no one before. She knew how to calm in down and how to care for him unlike anyone else. I don’t think I could pick a better person to love Sean or a better person to love Taylor. So cheers to the happy couple! And let’s get this party started!”
The audience cheered as they raised their glasses and Taylor tilted her head back with laughter. Craig kissed her on the forehead as she hugged him and Sean gave him a bro hug. The DJ turned the music up and groups of people began to head to the dance floor. Sean pushed his chair back as he took the last swing of his drink. He put his hand out to Taylor and she gave him a grin as she finished her fruity drink and took his hand. He led her to the dance floor as other couples danced around them.
Sean spun Taylor around and she giggled as they continued to dance. They sang at the top of their lungs to their favorite songs. They grabbed a few drinks as they continued to dance, their entire world seemed so happy and filled with joy in the moments they spent together. Soon it was time for them to cut the cake. They cut the chocolate cake as everyone watched; they placed the small cake on a plate before they both took their own bites. Sean took a handful of cake out of the masterpiece that stood before them and shoved it into Taylor’s face. She gasped as the icing hit her and she tried not to let any drip down her dress.
“Sean!” she squealed with a little giggle. She picked up a handful of her own cake and slapped him across the face with it. She laughed as he blinked, a big smile on his face, and he pressed his lips into her cheek, which only smeared the cake more on their faces.
They cleaned up as what was left of the messy cake was served to the guests. The continued to dance into the night until the guests began to leave one by one. They left their own gifts for the couple on the table by the door before they wished the couple well. Diego collected everything and put it all in his car, he would return the gifts to them later, after their honeymoon that was still a secret to Taylor. Soon, their limo arrived and before Taylor could say anything, Sean lifted her up and brought her to the limo. He kissed her passionately as the driver closed the door.

— Snippet from Chapter 4 —
Across the screen, Buck drops onto the narrow penalty box bench. The linesman swings the door shut behind him and skates off, already looking for the next problem.
Buck reaches up and pulls off his helmet.
His hair is dark with sweat, flattened in some places, sticking up in others where the helmet’s left its imprint. Damp strands cling to his forehead, curling slightly at the edges. He drags a hand back through it once, pushing it out of his eyes, then leans forward with his elbows on his knees while he catches his breath.
Eddie realizes he’s staring, not just watching. Staring.
His pen has stopped moving entirely.
On the broadcast, the camera lingers for a second longer than it probably should, close enough to catch the flush still high on Buck’s cheekbones, the slow rise and fall of his chest as his breathing steadies.
Eddie clears his throat quietly and looks down at his notebook.
He quickly writes
—— Buckley — 5 min fighting
The line on paper is a little darker than the others.
When he glances back up, just to confirm the box time, he tells himself, Buck is still there, helmet resting beside him, forearms braced on his thighs. He flexes his knuckles once, jaw working like he’s replaying something in his head.
Eddie watches that, too.
Then he forces himself to write again.
—— Panthers are still escalating physical play.
The words feel safer on the page than the direction his attention keeps drifting.
Eddie underlines physical. A little harder than necessary. His handwriting stays neat, controlled. But the margin beside the fight note stays circled.
The words stare back at him.
Eddie exhales slowly and taps the pen once against the paper.
“Buck, you’re an idiot,” he murmurs, but there’s not an ounce of heat behind it.

Inspired by other hockey romance novels on the market, I made a book cover for my fic.
After a career-ending injury ended his time in MLB, Eddie Diaz stayed close to the game by covering baseball for ESPN, learning how to watch instead of play. Now he’s been reassigned, temporarily, covering hockey, covering the Kings. Eight weeks of a sport that doesn’t know him. New rules. New experiences, New faces. No attachments.Eddie’s lived long enough with pain to recognize when something is supposed to be simple, and never is.
Lemme just post this here and see if anyone is interested in another Buddie Hockey AU?
This time, it's Eddie as a goaltender, who meets Buck on an off-season vacation, thinks he's just an influencer, so when he sees Buck again, he only finds out he's actually a Supermodel
(Also, not my best Eddie! goalie manip, but I used Online Photoshop, which doesn't have the best tools compared to the desktop version.)
———
Eddie sits wedged between bodies and gear, legs spread slightly to balance the weight of his pads, blocker resting against his thigh, glove loose in his lap. His helmet sits beside him, cage catching the arena lights.
Backup nights are strange, all the readiness, none of the release. He still watches everything, tracks the puck, reads plays, even though tonight it’s not his crease.
The whistle blows, and it's time for a TV timeout. The ice girls come out to shovel the ice, and the shift in the arena is immediate. Music surges, lights sweep, the crowd loosens into something brighter, louder.
Eddie glances toward center ice, then lets his gaze drift upward without thinking. The jumbotron flickers to life— “Hockeywood”, the way the arena showcases any celebrities in the audience for the game tonight.
Until the camera cuts to a familiar face, Chim’s wife, Maddie.
He recognizes her instantly. Bright smile, already laughing as she’s half-trying to dodge the camera with that please don’t put me on this energy that never actually means it. Their daughter Jee is next to her, half-standing on the seat, tiny hands waving frantically like she’s trying to greet every single person in the arena.
Chim talks about them all the time. Eddie’s seen them around. It’s easy. Expected.
He shifts his glove, settling— then someone leans into the frame beside them, subtle at first, then the camera centers on them.
Eddie’s whole world tilts. He knows that face, not a resemblance, not a lookalike.
It’s Buck.
He’s mid-laugh, caught off guard as Jee climbs over him like he’s part jungle-gym, one knee digging into the seat, the other braced against his thigh. One hand comes up automatically, steadying her.
On the screen, Buck glances up, and there it is. That flicker. That split-second realization as he sees himself on the Jumbotron.
Under his image: Evan Buckley — New Face of Gucci Fragrances
He laughs, and it lands square in Eddie’s chest, knocking the air out of him in a way he’s not prepared for, because it’s the same laugh… the one from the beach. From the night the storm rolled in too fast, and they didn’t bother running.
Buck looks polished and public. His curls are styled, sharper under arena lights than they ever were in the Bali sun, his mouth already curving as Jee grabs his arm and tries to pull him further into frame.
Buck looks polished, public, his short, curly hair styled, harsher under arena lights than in the Bali sun, mouth already curving into a laugh as Jee grabs his arm and tries to pull him closer into the frame.
Eddie’s brain doesn’t stay there, because the version of Buck he knows doesn’t exist under arena lights; It exists in fragments.
Warm air and salt on his skin, damp fabric clinging where it shouldn’t, ink shifting under Eddie’s fingers when he moved, unfiltered, close… the kind of closeness that doesn’t feel like something the whole world gets.
Eddie swallows, his grip tightens, blocker pressing into his thigh.
Evan Buckley.
Not just Buck, not just— “I’m a model.” Said like it didn’t matter, like it was small, like it was something Eddie didn’t need to think about, but he didn’t ask, he didn’t look close enough, because it had been easier to make Buck something simple, something that fit into two weeks and stayed there.
Temporary.
Eddie forces his gaze down, back to the ice, the lines, the players circling into position.
The music fades, the ref skates back in, and everything resets.
Except Eddie can’t unsee it, can’t separate it, because Buck isn’t distant now. He isn’t some version of a life Eddie stepped into and walked away from.
He’s here in this building. With people Eddie knows. People Eddie sees every day. Close enough that—
Eddie exhales slowly, dragging a hand down over his mouth before pulling his cap lower. The game’s about to start again, and he’s sitting there in full gear, with nowhere to go… and two versions of the same man colliding in his head.

Eddie Diaz knows how to handle chaos. He's an NHL goaltender. It's literally part of the job.
Buck lives in chaos. Between photoshoots, runways, and flights across the world, he's learned how to make peace with it.
Their lives shouldn't overlap.
Then they met in the Maldives, neither of them was looking for anything serious. One week, too many drinks, undeniable chemistry, and the understanding that it had an expiration date. A fling neither of them expected to survive the flight home.
They said goodbye, expecting that to be the end of it.
Six months later, Los Angeles makes a liar out of both of them
