Sorry to team Sun-Oh, but I’m so glad Hye-Yeong got the girl. I do love Song Kang but this is why I was team Hye-Yeong from the beginning.
So back when Love Alarm was first released I actually hadn’t heard of either of the male lead actors so I had no idea who the endgame would be. I ended up dropping the drama 3 episodes in because I found myself rooting for HY and I began to think SO was the main lead. I decided to wait until the second season was released before finishing season one. I didn’t realize how long I’d wait...
So this past week I binged everything from the beginning back to back and I still stand with rooting for HY. Here are my reasons:
1. SO didn’t respect his best friend—When SO found out HY had feelings for JoJo he still pursued her. Yes HY denied it but SO knew how HY felt.
2. HY may have admired JoJo from afar but he respected that she was in a relationship while SO did not. SO kissed JoJo TWICE (by the way) while she was in a relationship. First was when she was with Il-Sik and the second was when she was with Hye-Yeong!
3. HY never pressured her to prove how she felt while SO always pulled out the app to confirm how she felt all the time. While HY did want her to ring his alarm, he chose to be patient and waited for her.
4. JoJo had her own trauma to work through and honestly, SO wasn’t the right person to walk alongside of her through it. He had his own trauma but never really addressed it.
5. JoJo hated being in the spotlight or put on the spot. We see this with the anonymity with The Ringing World and when SO called her out multiple times. SO received a lots of attention and he enjoys it. HY does things quietly.
6. HY is a warm and loving person. JoJo never had the love that HY shows her except with her Halmeoni. SO also doesn’t really know that love either so for two people who don’t understand love get together it gets pretty messy.
7. HY has always been concerned for JoJo and her wellbeing. SO was always a bit too selfish for me.
8. JoJo chose to use the spear to ring HY’s love alarm. He didn’t understand it at first but the fact that she chose him was a perfect end to Love Alarm.
I would’ve loved it if the story was longer and more was explored. I think parts of the story could have been expounded upon but I think the moral of the story is this:
Don’t let an app guide your heart. Be open to the love that’s around you. You decide your path.
Again, sorry to SO fans. I was Team Han Ji-Pyeong and Team Han Seo-Joon so I know the pain! Here’s hoping the next great show won’t have a love triangle. My heart can’t take it lol
