#kinda nostalgia

I miss my 7th grade year, not because of school, but because it was then that I discovered this little Korean kids show named 'Tobot.' I watched dozens of episodes not understanding anything going on all since I was watching it un-subtitled in Korean. I even watched some of the sequel series it had like Athlon, V/Galaxy Detectives. Truly a moment in my life. (It should be noted that I rediscovered the series years after the fact in English on Youtube and that was how I was finally able to watch it and actually know the plot)

I also watched this other kids show called Dinocore which I absolutely devoured the first 3 seasons of. Season 2 had a small twist where for a brief minute you thought that they had killed the MC, and Season 3's first fight lasted 2 episodes and highkey made you question if this "monster of the week" style show would have the main characters lose immediately (of course it didn't

Oh and going back to Tobot, it was kinda based as it had hella interesting plot points. The show literally starts off with a kidnapping, there's dozens of near death experiences for a bunch of the characters. There's bombings, the spreading of addictive substances to children, terrorism, the kids get trauma, one of the main characters is a bit racist for one of the story arcs, it's crazy. Although unfortunately the english dub/edit removes several of the plot points that make it so interesting. Heck, even in V/Galaxy Detectives they nearly kill the MC from the previous Season with a cliffhanger where he's left powerless and sinking in the arctic ocean. Dinocore also does a similar thing where the MC is left comatose for like an episode before awakening with a new power. I need to rewatch the last few seasons in order to remember what happened cuz I don't even remember how they beat the final villain.

Long story short, Korean kids shows hit different.

Its always nice finding a little corner of the internet that still feels like its "old internet" like a little website someone made or a web comic that's made just for the passion. It feels like most of the internet is so commercialized or open to the public now that so much of it has lost its personality, so its nice to know that there are still some parts that are just nice and cozy :3

A little story about dolls

I grew up playing dolls with my brother. A lot. And the thing is, I have plenty of siblings. I grew up with 3 sisters and 4 brothers, but I never really played dolls with any of my sisters? Like, if they wanted to play with us it was fine but I’d never ask them to, I only asked my brother and would only play if he was there. Idk why, it was an « us » thing I guess, but he was the one I had the worst relationship with.

I had non-existing relationships with the oldest, and the ones younger than me were too young to have a real bond. But I would ALWAYS fight with my brother, the only reason I never broke anything (on me or him) is because I was afraid of hurting him too much and would back down while still infuriated.

But then, there would be times where we’d get along perfectly, building our own little town inside the house, creating rules and currency, roads and businesses, taking care of our inanimated children. We would take our arts and crafts supplies to make our money and other accessories, build Lego Phones etc. We’d cook together, and clean everything up after ourselves in perfect harmony.

I don’t know what made us get along that great, because I know why we didn’t really get along. We were both middle-ish children who needed attention from parents who had way too much on their plates, I was scared of confrontation and he hated any sort of authority, and we were way too similar to get along while that immature with a complete lack of self-awareness. But then, why would the dolls bring us together so well?

I still don’t know, but I think about that a lot.

Also my brother was an absolute ANGEL with those dolls, he had his favourite (A little black boy with an afro that we called Toto, he was one of the three POC dolls we had, AND those dolls had genitals, I don’t remember what brand they were but damn kudos.) that he cared for very much, he was basically the perfect father at age 4-11. I can’t wait until he has kids, he’s gonna be great.
