What do you know about the January blues? I know all about it.
Ask me anything. I can barely navigate them, but I make it through every year.
the heart of the home
I could probably write a whole thesis about the kitchen scenes in Skam. I won’t, but I’ll rant a little about them. 😂
In season 1, there aren’t that many of the kitchen scenes, but the one at the end is my absolutte favourite (Eva confronting Isak) because of the amazing and heartbreaking acting. ❤️
In season 2 we have the kitchen party, Noora cooking Tortilla at the cabin, the fish cake crisis and the cocoa making and making out scene with William. We start to see that the kitchen and the food means more than just being something in the background. It’s about attraction, being close, caring, helping, nourishing, communication, clearing the air. The scenes also illustrate the character developements. How Noora goes from being restrained and lonely to more open and trusting towards others.
Now I haven’t mentioned how all these several scenes mirrors each other, but of course that’s not a coincidence. And don’t get me started on all the kitchen scenes in season 3, and the one so far in season 4. I could write for hours. Well I can just say that we get everything from toast making, flirting, guru conversations, almost kisses, buddy talks and dancing and kissing. And we see Isak’s developement illustrated, we see how he starts letting his friends in, and how he starts to be more true to himself.
Anyway, I don’t know where all this ranting ends up. But of course it must have some meaning that the kitchen often is called the heart of the home, or the place where you find all the care and love. It seems like the kitchen is the heart of Skam. Let’s hope for more kitchen scenes this last season with Sana. ❤️
