I keep thinking about what Komui must've felt in this moment, seeing his sister in such a state: bloodied fingernails, scratched cheeks and restraints around her wrists. He willingly walked into hell, yes, but what amount of resolve can prepare you for a sight like this? There is no steeling yourself for it. He must've been horrified when he walked into that room. He must've been livid.

But he must've swallowed it all down because in that moment, more than anything, his sister needed to know that she was home. That in the time she had tried and tried and failed to make it back home, home had found a way to make it back to her side.

Y'all this woman-made manga is still ongoing and is one of the most interesting and complex storylines I've ever experienced. I'm really hoping for a continuation of the anime!! Holy war religious corruption fiction meets sci-fi meets comedy meets fantasy meets body horror in a way that is truly in a group of its own.

Honestly the gifs I'm sharing don't do justice. If you're looking for something to watch and/or read that is psychologically dense, complex in lore, and unsettling in the best ways, consider giving it a read/watch. It was the first manga my partner of ten and a half years introduced me to when we met, so it's near and dear to my heart 🥹

It would we wild if we found out the reason Lenalee’s documents seemed forged was because Komui’s not actually her brother, he was just either (1) ordered to pretend to be to stop one of the few exorcists from being suicidal to the point of needing restraints or (2) felt compassion for the poor girl forced into this horrible situation and felt the need to give her some hope and human connection. Or some combination of the two.

At least, if we’re lucky, that realization will finally free Lenalee from the last chains she needed to run from her prison.
