YUMMY! 맛있다~

Following lunch @ Nongbu, I tried out the Korean shaved ice at Dream Tea (Whyte Ave location) to keep the Korean theme consistent. This stuff is new on their menu & it’s being advertised excessively. It’s crazy how it seems like the Korean food addition to the city has suddenly skyrocketed in the past few yrs. 1st was the boom of fried chicken, & then Korean modern eats.. .& now a popular Korean favourite, “patbingsoo” (aka Korean shaved ice).

Anyways, the oreo one was ordered bcos we all know Anita is a crazy Oreo fan. The taste was good! The top part was very sweet bcos the ice was buried inside the bucket, but mixed with the ice, it was perfect. I enjoyed it & it was a refreshing dessert.

& now I have sad news to share.

1. Dream Tea has discontinued their original shaved ice, which of course, includes my all time favourite, the Rocky Mountain that I have posted about several times on my blog. WHYYY?! In comparison to the Oreo shaved ice, I prefer the Rocky Mountain bcos of the combo of interesting textures (lychee jelly, red beans, & tapioca).

2. This thing was $$$$! Not trying to compare but it’s really hard NOT to. The original shaved ice was $4.99 & you’ve seen it! It was a large bowl with an abundant amount of toppings. This had a smaller quantity of stuff & the bucket was pretty small, & it was $7.99! The others were $8.99 & it’s not necessarily ‘pricier’ toppings.

3. Presentation is not functional. The previous shaved ices were in bowls; it was very easy to scoop, mix (if you desire) & eat. A lot of the toppings literally fell off as they were going for height & the cute bucket presentation here. I should have taken a better photo (like a sideview) but the height of the toppings was almost the same height of the almost-cylindrical bucket - can you visualize the issue? I guess it was something that they had anticipated due to the fact it comes on a tray.

So I mean.. . I’ll be happy to share this dessert & try out their other flavours, but will it replace my 1st shaved ice love, the Rocky Mountain? Probably not...
