Fraaie plataan (met Kouw) in Bergen op Zoom
@KOUW's The Record: No, the Mafioso who tried to extort the British army in that sketch were the Vircottis, not the Piranhas. The Piranhas don't actually appear at all in the series, other than a pre-existing photo of two random men that flashes on the screen for a few seconds.
Oosterpark, Amsterdam, febr.4th 2007.

Your top 3 crossover fanfics:
Have not written any crossovers
Your favorite character to write in fanfic:
Isobel Crawley and Elsie Hughes, but I think I’m better at Isobel. Apparently I did a decent Lisa Cuddy as well ... back in the days before I worried about impressing others. I must have just “got” her inherently on some level
Bonus round! A fic you love that isn’t listed above:
I have all kinds of feels for All in the Eyes of a Boy, which was hard for some of my usual readers but exposed me to another whole group of DA fans

Quick-and-dirty for kouw
Happiest of birthdays to you, @kouw! You are so very gifted, so skilled at writing beauty in quick-and-dirty snippets. Inspired by you, I have begun writing my next Chelsie prompt in that manner. My level of skill doesn’t touch yours, but you make me want to raise my game.
The following bit didn’t exist half an hour ago. Many thanks to @belovedrival for allowing me to borrow a favorite line from All The Difference.
... [T]ime marches on, bringing alongside it the inevitability of change. The past ten years have seen young ladies come of age, boys transformed into men seemingly overnight by their homeland’s entry into the Great War. The telephone has become a commonplace feature, facilitating communication between the big house and London. Marriage, divorce, birth, death, illness and relocation have altered the landscape. Joy and sorrow, triumph and tragedy all have had their day, leaving none the same, servant or noble.
Resistant as he is to change, not all of it has been to his consternation. No, indeed, one particular development in the recent past has brought him to awareness of so many things he’d never known before, trading solitude for companionship, barrenness for beauty, and bringing light into the dark corners of his mind.
He is a husband now. He has a wife. He, who was married for so long to the Abbey, to the Granthams, to serving them with dignity, polish and gentility, is now wedded to the woman he worked alongside for decades. More than that, he is retired. If he had been told two years ago that he would find himself in this position, his heart would likely have stopped! He had always sworn most insistently that he’d die in harness, yet somehow, in the moment of truth, there had been no question in his mind that retirement was what must come next.
He has a wife, and they have a home. He and she together. Evenings that had long been spent alone, in a narrow single bed far too small for his frame and with but the poor company of the day’s paper, now are filled with the melodious voice of his wife, singing softly as she does the washing up, and her presence beside him on the settee as she ducks under his arm, snuggling into his side.
He loves being married. Loves it. He hadn’t even been aware of all that his life was lacking until he opened his heart and his arms to her. She is his perfect complement, the other half of his soul, lighthearted where he is somber. She is soft curves to his sharp edges and sweetness when he is dour. When he is with her, she brings forth a lightness from deep within him that he wasn’t aware he possessed. He looks to the future with optimism and expectancy that he’d never been able to see before he glimpsed it through her eyes.
And yet, there are moments when the timeless adage rings true: old habits die hard.
For the peeps who just saw the video I posted (the old timey dancing to Uptown Funk one) and went: “OMG! Who are the dudes with the great hair doing jumping splits?!”, have a video of the Nicholas Brothers. I think they are the best dancers the world has ever seen and I strongly encourage everybody to watch it. Oh, and to make it all more awesome, the video starts with Cab Calloway singing!
