L Pool

Its rare for pools to have longevity, so its no surprise that the L pool is becoming something of a legendary spot. My first time skating it was around eight years ago, so it’s probably been skateable for a decade. I drove by it for the first time in years this week, so I made sure to get a few grinds.

I jumped the fence to find the vast shallow end bone dry, but more ice water than I could deal with sitting in the deep end. The pool is usually well hidden by lush overgrowth, but in the winter time I had to be a lot more careful. Standing up in the shallow end I could clearly make out drivers in traffic, so this had to be a fifteen minute mission---get some grinds, take some pictures, and get back on the road.

The pool is a country-club type pool---lots of open space and tight square corners. Its surprisingly skate-friendly, with decent transition in most of the shallow end and a deep end that’s just a little tighter than a skatepark pool. Some might even argue that the coping is set better than some nearby skateparks. There are several accessible deathboxes, and the shallow end makes for a good session even when the deep end has water in it.

There’s truly nothing like skating a real swimming pool, and they don’t get much better than this one.
