WELCOME BACK TO AMBROSE’S MUSIC DIARY
ALBUMS OF THE DAY 06.29.2026
VOL II - ANGINE DE POITRINE
OH YES IM FALLING IN LOVE WITH ADP ALL OVER AGAIN. i’ve talked about them a million times on here so i’ll keep it semi short: their instrumental skills are awesome their creativity is amazing and their freedom and weirdness gives me LIFE. i’ve seen a few clips of the montreal jazz festival show and oh my god!!!!!!! can you believe i get to see them. i get to see khn and klek play in personnnn guys i am so so excited. spins around in circles until i smack my head into a telephone pole and die AHHHHH
LA POËYSCE - LA POEXE
so so fun!! i love weird shifting time signatures i love confusing noises i love crunchy sounds!!! i love when the guitarist (i think?) yells OH WHERES YOUR CIGARETTE MAAAN in a goofy ass voice at the end of the final track. 10/10 never take yourself seriously ever
ELECTRA 2000 - HUM
put this on while doing homework and oooohhh i think i am maybe becoming a hum fan. this is like if a blanket was music. i am cozy. thanks @julpernulper you’ve gotten me into 2 whole artists now :)
TRAVERSE THE BEALACH - SGÀILE
one scottish guy’s solo metal project. im green with envy for every artist who can make a whole album by themselves MAN i wish i had that many skills!!! it’s a touch progressive, a touch atmospheric. i find his style very comforting, especially how layered the vocals are—it makes him sound like a spirit calling over the moors rather than simply a guy with a mic. i have slept on an airplane to this. solid album.
SPLEEN AND IDEAL - DEAD CAN DANCE
pretty and chill and full of lovely gothy atmospheres. very good pre-sleep vibe. female vocalist has an interesting vibrato that reminds me a little bit of liz fraser. nice
THE WOW! SIGNAL - MUSE (actually i listened to this yesterday but i wanted to talk about it anyway)
i haven’t really cared about muse for years and i really dislike their newer albums. so much that i had kinda given up on them. but! @lightwxrker said this one was better so i gave it a chance. i dont think i care about it enough to play it again but it is in fact a little better than some other things they have made! so a win is a win. i do like cryogen & hexagons & you cannot tell me hush wouldn’t have done numbers in the 2010s. it’s so 2016. which i guess is nostalgic in a way? overall impression: i am kind of ambivalent to this album. but i’m not actively mad at it so this is an improvement good job guys
ok i’m sleepy. goodnight guys, chat soon <3
WELCOME BACK TO AMBROSE’S MUSIC DIARY
whoops i forgot to post one of these yesterday! we’re back though! my summer courses are starting up and i cannot do schoolwork without music on. so there will be so much. yippee
ALBUMS OF THE DAY 06.02.2026
VOL. II - ANGINE DE POITRINE
YEAAAAY MY GUYS.. mhm mhm. every time i listen to angine i notice new things that i didn’t notice before. usually about the drumming. i love. i so so wish i could listen to this for the first time again!!!!
LA POËYSCE - LA POEXE
yes yes yes yes. i went outside without concealer on today because of this band. everyone clap for me and also them. a delightful slice of chaos and nonsense and do-whatever-the-fuck-you-want-ness mixed with really seriously great musicianship. crunchy. im chewing on it. !!!!!
PALE COMMUNION - OPETH
one of their softer albums. im not as like…..emotionally attached to this album as i am to some of their others but still. beautifully composed gorgeous piece of art ouhh i love opeth
DOWNWARD IS HEAVENWARD - HUM
this is a great summer evening album to me. it feels like taking a walk at golden hour when the sun is starting to set and the shadows are really long and it’s still kind of warm out and you simultaneously feel hope for the future, fear for how you’re going to get there and a weird ache in your chest for who you used to be.
maybe that is just a me thing. anyway good album very pretty and comforting thanks @julpernulper and @lost-on-the-highway for the recommendation
OF BREATH AND BONE - BE’LAKOR
i had forgotten how much i like this album! this was a staple in my rotation around five years ago and for some reason i forgot about it for a bit. we are so back!! it’s got delicious guitar harmonies, it’s got really satisfying thick vocal textures, it’s got recurring motifs and shit…… so good <3
HEAD OVER HEELS - COCTEAU TWINS
laying in bed listening to cocteau twins truly the best way to end the day. i feel so nice. i don’t have a lot of notes to add bc im sleepy. goodnight
okay. goodnight guys chat soon <3
I really need to poexepost more given that at this point in time I am probably Number One La Poexe fan on tumblr dot com except that it is difficult given the nature of the elephant in the room
back to our regularly scheduled programming:
current work in progress because I want to lick the colours in this photo
WELCOME BACK TO AMBROSE’S MUSIC DIARY
mini road trip edition! drove a long way today (probably goes without saying but if u are one of the chosen few who know where i went pls do not tell everyone <3)
ALBUMS OF THE DAY 05.30.2026
HEAVEN OR LAS VEGAS - COCTEAU TWINS
got inspired by @julpernulper :) might be a little bit too dreamy for having to focus while driving but this album is soooo pretty
LA POÊSSE - LA POEXE
do not listen to la poexe while driving on ill-maintained/bumpy road…..the road noise will obscure all the details :(
VOL. I - ANGINE DE POITRINE
doooooo listen to angine while driving on rural freeways. put ur cool sunglasses on. go really fuckin fast. drum on the steering wheel. awesome
VOL. II - ANGINE DE POITRINE
see above!!! 🔺🔺🔺
HEMISPHERES - RUSH
this isn’t my absolute fav rush album but its still v good & i have. maybe a little crush on early 80s geddy lee. so there is that
HIDDEN HISTORY OF THE HUMAN RACE - BLOOD INCANTATION (partially)
banger!!!! less banger when the people in front of you on the highway are going maddeningly slow and you’re getting sick of driving and it’s really bright outside. but! sustained me through the last 20min of my journey
SORCERESS - OPETH
currently listening to this while sketching a little at the end of the day. very beautiful album, peak comfort music :)
that is all! bye guys, chat soon :)

WELCOME BACK TO AMBROSE’S MUSIC DIARY 06.19.2026
felt a little weird today. but with a good soundtrack :)
ABSOLUTE ELSEWHERE - BLOOD INCANTATION
was not paying attention because i was knee deep in phonology data while this was playing. very fun album but i cannot tell you any of my thoughts bc i was battling phonology assistant with my mind. dumbass software can eat rocks. album cover looks like the de poitrine brothers’ home planet to me :)
HEAD OVER HEELS - COCTEAU TWINS
a buuunch of songs from this ended up in my To Sing Later playlist. sooo pretty. i love all the sound textures they’re like cobwebs with dew on them. ive been sorta analyzing what liz does with her voice lately and its so interesting. she usually sings in complete straight-tone until she gets to the end of a phrase, where she’ll sometimes add this really fluttery vibrato that sounds almost like a laugh. i can’t really replicate it but i think she does it by manipulating the force and speed of her airflow instead of the pitch, which is unlike how most singers create vibrato. i don’t know how she does it with such control but it’s so unique and very cool!!
BLACKWATER PARK - OPETH (partially)
oh blackwater park i love you so!!! opeth is the source of my eternal love for 6/8 time and my comfort band for ever :) this album is so well written and well executed……i’ll never get over those vocals and the way it trades effortlessly and smoothly between passages of delicate acoustic instrumentation and thickly layered heaviness. ugh i adore this thing
POEX - LA POEXE
had a moment of feeling discouraged and emotional. put this on and may not have been completely fixed but i did feel a bit better! i love how funky and weird they get on here its like….jazz 2
THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL - NINE INCH NAILS
it’s true what they say about when you’re sad you understand the lyrics and when you’re not sad you enjoy the music. this evening i was having a major enjoy the music moment blasting this loud as fuck in my earbuds and trying not to get up and headbang while doing an assignment. i did skip hurt because i didn’t want to make myself sad. sue me i already did my languishing for today i didn’t feel like doing it again
okay :) i’m going to bed on time for once. look at me go. goodnight guys, chat soon
