54-year-old Tom Waits' 16th studio album was released on 4 October 2004 in Europe (and a day later in the US).

Built around home recordings that Waits made in his bathroom, using his mouth as a human beat-box, Real Gone is stripped down, noisy, and raw, with Waits utilizing some frequent collaborators (bassists Les Claypool and Larry Taylor, guitarist Marc Ribot, and his co-writer and co-producer - and wife - Kathleen Brennan).

Real Gone peaked at #28 in the US and would go on to sell more than 500,000 copies worldwide. It would be 7 years before Waits released another album.
