My Discord has too much power because What the Hell was this??
I love youtube channels that are more like art projects than centered around a person/group. its nice to see something a little more contained to a concept, in a world where everyone is selling themselves as a personality, acting like their audience is in on their everyday life and follows them through the years, where their content shifts become their life story as everything must be connected and findable through the persona
on twitter and tumblr or even modding a subreddit theres a lot of accounts and entities that are dedicated to a specific gimmick (and thats still neat to think someone can have 15 minutes of fame through that and not really put it under any personal brand, not ride on it when they want to do something new), but the higher effort form of youtube feels kinda more mysterious when it happens.
lots of channels got famous for 1 specific format people come to expect from them, but even if they want to do something different, they have to keep the established audience comfortable, leading to content that they aren’t passionate about AND which is just kind of passable. but channels that know when they have completed everything their concept can contribute to the world, I respect that. specifically I have alantutorial and lasagnacat in mind, their creators all went on to do stuff with adult swim but were iconic channels, and fittingly they are both kind of About this kind of effect in making art.
this can kinda dip into sounding like "do more of the same here, I dont like new thing", anti cancel culture "why are you judging them based on what they use to do, they are completely new now" since filthy frank is trying to do this, and marketplace of ideas laissez faire about the "merit" of content. but I just wish we would stop making people celebrities that have to Going. but either way its still interesting to follow how someone’s work changes
