"You don't have to keep spoiling me, you know," Nick said from the doorway of his kitchen.
You glanced up from the pot you'd been stirring. The stew within had been a recipe you've made since you were old enough to cook alongside your grandmother and father. It was one meant for comfort, and you'd long since perfected it.
A smile flitted across your features as you shrugged a shoulder. "I wanna spoil you. It's not like you haven't been through a lot in the past year or so. I know you know that."
Pushing off the wall where he'd been leaning, Nick moved further into his kitchen until he stood next to you. Not so close that he invaded your space, but he was close enough that his warmth seeped into you.
Thankfully, the Vegas heat had begun to dissipate with the sun's slow descent.

AND THEN, WITHOUT WARNING, AS IF THE UNIVERSE HAD WHISPERED HIS NAME INTO EXISTENCE, THERE HE WAS.
FOR A FEW SUSPENDED MOMENTS, NOTHING ELSE EXISTED.
NOT THE NOISE. NOT THE CROUD. NOT THE WORLD.
JUST ME AND HIM.
TWO STRANGERS IN A CROUDED BAR… TWO SOULS COLLIDING AS IF DESTINY HAD BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VERY SECOND…
HIS EYES LOCKED ONTO MINE, SEARCHING MY SOUL.
TWO SOULS WHO SOMEHOW FELT FAMILIAR.
