In honor of graduation, I thought I would share with you the story behind my decoration of my graduation cap. In Latin-American culture it’s very common for a child to have both their mother and father’s last name. Since I was born in the US, I only have my father’s last name but I have thought about legally changing it to include my mother’s as well. Since I couldn’t decide in time for my diploma to get processed, I decided I would honor my parents by putting all of their last names on my cap. Rebaza-Zamarriego (Father) & Ferrer-Muñoz (Mother). My parents were so shocked and happy when they saw their last names carried across the stage and it’s something I will remember for the rest of my life! #latina #puertorican #peruvian #latino #latinx #latinamerican #latinos #latinas #latinagraduate #hispanic #puertorriqueña (at University of Georgia)
