Some days all you want to do is walk around the yard with the dog and sit and absorb all the sun you can.

A truly spectacular overland day out is most defiantly refreshments to start at the southern foot of the Swartberg mountain pass i.e. near Oudtshoorn called Kobus se Gat. Pre-book in the evenings for a banquet feast of local foods. There’s nice places to stay nearby, perhaps the exquisites Grootfontein retreat. Spoil yourself.
Then comes the humongius ascent up the corrugated pass which comprimises of steep switch backs, narrow sections, rocks and dust.
The views are to die for and at various stops allows for some magical views towards Oudtshoorn. When you crest the top expect a magical descent of the wildest rock formations you have ever seen.
Low down in the valley is a river which flanks the road heading towards Price Albert, which looks like a film set out of a US Wild Western.
Once you drive into the lovely town of Prince Albert, on the left is the Lazy Lizard with the best Apple Pie in the county. Stop stop stop as you decision from here on is with vanilla ice-cream or cream.
What a day out.
