Watercolor Beginner Tip: Don’t Compare Without Context
If you’re following a tutorial or looking at another artist’s work and your results don’t match, don’t assume you’ve done something wrong.
Before comparing, ask or check what paper brand and weight they’re using, what paints and brushes they chose, and how familiar they are with those materials. In my experimentation, I have learned watercolor behaves very differently depending on the products involved, and the same technique can produce soft blends on one paper and hard edges on another.
Tutorials are best for learning process, not for matching outcomes. Different materials - and different levels of experience with them - will always lead to different results.
