As much as I'm a sucker for the moments of Henry showing his full devotion and guard dog energy for Hans and running headlong into danger for him (looks at the full meeting and fighting Zizka cutscenes again for...reasons), I love even more when it's flipped. I love it when we see Hans returning the favour.

Hans carrying Henry through the woods, tackling that bandit, punching that guy at the wedding. These boys are ride or die for each other, and I love that. They'd drag each other out of hell after following them there.

High speech skill Henry is genuinely kinda busted I think, like a guard will come up to you and go "you're in trouble mister" or want to search you for stolen items and Henry just goes "Hmm. How about no." AND IT WORKS

And in the second game they recorded so many hilarious excuses he can drop too...Henry of Gaslitz for real...

*taps mic* I want to yap about Erik, specifically my own thoughts/headcanons on him.

So what we know about Erik is pretty straightforward–his parents (and pressumedly most if not all of his neighbours) were killed by Istvan and his men during a raid on Erik's village in Moravia. In KCD1 he is very chill about this fact (something they retconned in KCD2 why Warhorse I'm gonna ignore that). We know this was "when he was a boy" but we don't know his exact age (personally I put it at 13-15 years old, this gives him enough time to have known his parents and to grow bitter towards them and the people around him. For reference I see him as being about 26 or by the events of KCD)

To me, Erik was the "weird quiet kid" of the village, neglected by his otherwise well meaning but "weak" parents, avoided by his neighbours, and under the rule of a lord who was far worse that Radzig ever was (and without the benefits of being a bastard). A blank slate. I know some folks headcanon him as having "serial killer traits" as a child/teen like killing animals but I personally don't. Instead, I see him having an ever-growing bitterness and nihilistic view of the world. And much like Henry, a desire to be more beyond the walls of his village.

But unlike Henry, when everything goes down in flames, he realises he doesn't care that his parents are dead. In fact, he's relieved. And when the man who did it offers him a way out, he takes it. Because while Henry has people who still care for him after the fact, Erik does not.

Except for Istvan.

And with him, he has a purpose, a meaning.

Sometimes playing KCD is being petty and reloading your save in order to specifically beat Hans Capon at his stupid archery and sword contests and continuing to fail and repeat because you're bad at the game

Erik dressing in predominantly white armour, a colour that is often associated with "purity," one that easily stains in blood, one that he will have to clean over and over again always gets to me, obvious symbolic reasons why. It's especially funny if you're like me who views Henry dressing in predominantly dark colours (black and blue mostly) because what are we if not dressing up appropriately to beat up your narrative foil

I don't know if this is the brainrot talking, but I genuinely believe Henry of Skalitz has quickly entered the top 5 of my favourite protagonists of all time, I love him dearly

I find it a little funny that Henry can get upset and angry and scared for Hans upon finding out he's been poaching (for good reason considering later events) but in the first game you can do so much poaching across the various activities presented it adds such an interesting layer of irony. Henry "its only a problem if I'm not doing it" of Skalitz.

Wonder how much feeds into him not caring how much crime and sin he does as long as it means that Hans stays clean?

We know so little about Jitka at this point (outside of the fact she's pretty, apparently) that it's interesting to see how people interpret her without anything to go off of if they acknowledge her at all. It creates this fascinating Web of contradictions.

Is she fiery? A girl boss? Is she the perfect noblewoman? A brat as much as Hans? Is she quiet? Loud? Brash or polite? Is she sad? Bitter? Knowing that the man she has to marry will likely never love her like she might have wanted one day? Does she even care? Does she love another? A man? Or a woman? Will she despise Hans? Will she love him? What would she think of Henry? Will she be happy? Can she even be happy?

I want to meet her someday, I want to know.
