Four men have been sentenced to over 27 years’ imprisonment at Guildford Crown Court on Friday, 4 July after seriously injuring a man in a vicious assault in a Brixton chicken shop.Leon Simmonds, 25 (5.07.89) of Moorland Road, SW9 was found guilty of committing grievous bodily harm with intent and jailed for nine years.Tesfaye Smith, 27 (31.10.86) of Eaton Drive, SW9 pled guilty to committing grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for seven years and four months.Dexter Padmore, 24 (13.07.89) of Barville Close, SE4 pled guilty to committing grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for six years.Simeon Neill, 25 (1.03.89) of High Street, Sutton pled guilty to committing grievous bodily harm with intent and was jailed for five years and four months.Police were called to reports of a fight at Morleys Chicken Shop in Brixton Road, SW9 at 04:08hrs on 8 July 2013.Officers attended the scene and found a badly injured 46-year-old man unconscious at the scene. He was taken to Kings College Hospital with multiple fractures and cuts to his face and a broken nose.Despite the serious injuries sustained by the victim he declined to assist police. However investigations revealed that the four men, one armed with a brick, had attacked the victim after an altercation and kicked and jumped on his head while he lay on the ground. They then rifled through his pockets before leaving the scene.Simmons was detained by police at the scene; Padmore, Smith and Neill were identified by police through enquiries and the recovery of forensic evidence from the scene.Padmore, Smith and Neill pled guilty, whilst Simmonds pleaded not guilty and claimed self defence. He was found guilty by unanimous verdict.Sentencing the men Judge Fraser, said: “Whatever provocation, there was no need or necessity for the violence used which can only be described as ferocious.”All four men have backgrounds as youth workers, to which Judge Fraser, said: “It’s remarkable that with this background you went on to commit this offence. You should know better.”
