I never knew I needed to see queer adults until I met them. It was really encouraging to meet older queer adults, seeing people who had grown up and were loving who they loved, seeing gay couples and married gay couples, just existing as they were. It gave me a lot of hope that I can still be myself and love who I love as I grow older. It was refreshing to see that no matter what people were saying it wasn’t just a phase, that adults could live as their authentic selves. Especially in an area that is heavily Christen, that there are dedicated places to queer people still exist. Seeing married lesbians and gay boyfriends and trans women who came out later in life, in a really not accepting area for queer people. And talking to other queer young adults and teens who were still discovering who they were. As someone who had never been to an exclusively queer space, it was so refreshing to be around people who were like me. It had healed something in me that I didn’t know was broken.
