Tattooing: Most of you follow me for my tattoo work. Cool. i love you, too. Pivoting to tattooing and opening @bruttattoo with @nicolausrummel was the best thing that could have happened when it did. It gave me the time to refresh and fix the sloppy side of my illustrations. The non-stop pace of tattooing help me speed up my process and fine tune my attention to detail. For sequential work, i am now at a Four Page A Day (penciled, inked, coloured) workflow. This was the speed and confidence i needed to get back into comics. Even if i have to bust ass and print all my books in house, i will publish by the end of 2018. ‘06-’12: This was the most successful and in turn the worst point in my comics career. I started freelancing as a designer and illustrator, and was doing well. I was getting paid to draw pictures all day. I ramped up my sequential work and started getting booths at @HeroesCon with my brother @nicolausrummel . For heroes con ‘06, i self published a 12 page mini comic and sold out every copy. I, then, self published a new 12 page mini comic for each heroes con after that. Having great conversations with editors and publishers, i even had a couple short stories published in various anthologies. Writers were having me work on projects (eg: @mandrewsmith had me doing pages for a pilot issue, vampire stories from others, and an edgar allen poe short for a british anthology). It felt great to be doing comics. Personal tragedy struck and i started missing deadlines. I had to bow out of some projects and ended up getting fired from two. I know i burned some bridges during that time. I even stopped comics for a while. Stopped going to comic shops, stopped drawing comics. I’ve never been a quitter, so i had to pivot. THE 90’s: This decade was non-stop experimentation. #phrasing I was throwing everything at the wall to see what stuck with me. I drew a lot of really bad pictures. I painted very badly with watercolours. But i kept doing my thing so i could grow as an artist. With the #imagerevolution inspiring me to draw comics, i struggled getting out of a @jimleeart and @marc_silvestri mimic style. Only buying comics to follow certain artists like frank miller, sam kieth, mike mignola @artofmm, travis charest, and jae lee @jaeleeart . Sometime in the early, late mid 90’s, i stumbled across the two things that would change my art outlook forever: Alphonse Mucha and Sailor Moon. That was a time when almost everything about me changed.
