PSA: This blog will be taking a few breaks

In this lovely month of July, this blog will take a few breaks and be either posting on autopilot (i.e. queue) or not at all. 

Why? Well, I ( @janwo ) am exceptionally busy. 

My family (5 people and a fluffy dog) will be moving, joining two households into a third, new home. 

Who knows when IndiHome will bring us online there.

Lockdown and pandemic permitting, We’ll get married on 25th. 

Lockdown and pandemic permitting, there shall be a brief honeymoon afterwards. 

We are supposed to finish 2½ book chapters by August. — we haven’t even properly started writing them. 

(That list would be much less ambiguous with a 1.PL.INCL/EXCL distinction.)

Thank you for sendung me this! I recently did some research on my family history so I'll use this opportunity to talk about some things I learned about my family:

I am apparently a direct descendant of Hungarian aristocracy despite neither being Hungarian nor rich (by direct I mean great great (...) grandfather)

Also the same great grandfather was an officer in the Hungarian army during WWII and fled to Brazil after the war (they are not on the Brazilian side of my family though!). I have been trying for some time now to find out what horrible nazi things that part of my family had done but I am afraid I'd need to travel to Hungary to get access to the documents

On my Brazilian side, I have a great great grandmother with a German last name who probably lived in a German settlement in Ukraine and fled to Brazil when the red army arrived

Up to the generation of my great great parents, people in my family have been born in 7 different countries even though it is hard to count because does Silesia a 100 years ago count as Poland or Germany on that list? (Also I didn't count cousins and uncles/aunts, only grandparents)

Many many times in those 4 generations people had to flee from war, famine and poverty and it just makes me an even more adamant supporter of refugee and migration rights and also helps me being grateful of what I have in these difficult times

(Also every German that I have told that I am doing research on my family tree told me the exact same thing and it is "Oh interesting! I have grandparents from Silesia and want to know more about them!)
