OKAY i finally have the courage to present to you my hc!! i’ve been microwaving tommy armitage in my head lately and i loooove the idea of him being little but still wanting to feel useful!! one of the cgs asks him to fetch them something and he’s soo excited!! i think he regresses a bit older than the others, so he likes taking care of them, even if he’s not very good at it. he babysits sol for a bit and they have a great time until they have to call heather because they ate too much candy and have tummy aches :( he’s very pleased with himself because while sol didn’t want to eat a vegetable, he convinced him to have strawberry ice cream and that’s nearly a fruit!! despite his caregiving skills, heather quite likes when he comes over. some of the sign language he’s taught sol has been very useful when talking is tricky and while he doesn’t exactly keep sol out of trouble, the two of them are definitely safe together which is more than can be said for when hickey has sol

I can’t believe we’ve been talking about the Little one’s being nonverbal and I completely forgot about Tommy Armitage!

Tommy is canonically deaf on one side and depending on what types of trauma they’ve been through in your personal favorite Terror babies AU he may have additional hearing loss. I headcanon Tommy as a hearing aid guy but as a kiddo I think he would frequently go without his hearing aids and sign.

Tommy’s never nonverbal but it takes some learning for other kids and caregivers to pick up on his communication style. He and Sol are rarely separated when they’re small and Sol will interrupt the other kids if they aren’t paying attention to Tommy and interprets for him. Henry Peglar might be a good playmate for Tommy because he loves to draw and write and find other communication styles.

Heather, Magnus, and Sol all know sign language and encourage Tommy to use whatever form of communication he prefers. McDonald is an expert caregiver and even though he doesn’t sign has no issues telling what Tommy needs. Crozier and Hodgson are always nervous to watch Tommy without Sol because what if they miss something and he gets upset?

Sol would love to guard Tommy when he's in ouppy mode also. Tommy doesn't mind, he likes puppies anyway. I love the image of Sol going "HEY! Tommy's talking, alright?" At other littles when henot in puppy mode.

I do think Tommy would take his hearing aid off when he's small (the way I take my glasses off when I'm tired lol, 120p vision time) Sometimes they leave it at home, but otherwise Heather brings it along in case Tommy changes his mind mid play-date. (Of course it's safely stored in its case in Heather's backpack, far away from any littles)

Tommy's very patient if someone's trying to learn to sign, sweet thing. He's not as good at teaching others so usually leaves it to Heather or Magnus, but he'll encourage them a lot <33

Hodgson first expected his Johnny-psychic powers to work on Tommy, but the little one actually talks and signs and doesn't really speak with his eyes at all and Hodge ended up crying about it. (Only once.)

Same with Crozier - he's used to Ned's babbling, he can understand it perfectly - but with Tommy it's something else entirely. He tries to learn, though, even though his hands are stiff 😌

I was gonna say Tom Hartnell for next on the wheel but I’ve given myself mixed thoughts and kind of convinced myself he might be a switch because I’m obsessed with the image of him seeing Blanky taking care of Little Henry and having FEELINGS about it. But also I love the thought of him as a caregiver getting training from Blanky.

Anyway I’m gonna say Blanky. Or Le Vesconte. Or Gore. Or Armitage!!

ENAMORED and IN LOVE with the chart sneak peek!

I was so glad to see my precious Sol gets to be in both puppy and baby category because he is both!! He’s a puppy with older pup Graham who’s always wanting to play chase and tug with him and sometimes Sol’s excited to play but other times he’s a tiny pup who just wants to snuffle at Graham’s hair and paw at his toys and maybe chew something.

And other days he’s a little guy who needs to be held and patted on his bottom and told he’s brave even when he doesn’t feel it! Heather carries him around on his hip and doesn’t mind that Sol is drooling on his shirt and calls him “big guy” even though he’s smaller than Tommy and peed in his pants earlier and cried about it but Bill is so nice to him and helped him change and didn’t make him feel stupid or say things under his breath or leave him in his wet clothes until someone else came to deal with it. Tommy tells him it’s not his fault because he’s just a baby and lets Sol play with his toys even though Sol keeps trying to teethe on them and helps him do his laces when they go out because his hands are clumsy when he’s small.

Sometimes he just wants to lay his head in Heather's lap and have his hair combed. And sometimes he tackles people because he has too much energy and wants to play.

The part with Heather you wrote, I'm crying 😭😭😭💖 "Big guy" - I need to bite something. He cares so much about Sol.

Tommy's toys probably have bite marks and notches on them from Sol borrowing them. Heather might offer to buy him new ones but he doesn't really mind. Sol's just a baby! He can't help it.

Tartnell and Tommy Armitage would be good playmates: similar little age, both thrive on praise, probably want to play the same things. Lots of running, pretend play, and snack time!

I haven't thought abt them before but >_< They're cute.

Looots of running! Oh, what if Jartnell watched over them :'3 not really as a CG, just as Tom's older brother, making sure everything's okay and they're not in danger..

I can see them playing with dinosaur toys or like lego bionicle. Or action figures ^^

Thinking intensely about Little Sol after Heather’s injury. He and Tommy trying to take care of each other even though they’re both small and need help. The Lieuts of course realize that Sol is not doing well and take him under their wing.

Gosh , yeah...

Someone probably finds them on the floor of sick bay, right next to Heather, trying and failing to figure out what to do or who to call because the doctor is very busy...

I think the lieuts would send out Little to try and scout the situation, ask them some quick questions... Either way Tommy is taken in by the marines and Sol ends up sleeping in one of the lieuts' cabins that night. And the night after. And the n-

I’ve just given myself the mental image of Heather agreeing to go out for drinks with the marines and lieutenants and showing up with Sol or Tommy who’s clearly small.

The stricter caregivers are horrified and keep saying “you can’t bring a baby to the bar!” and Bill and Sol are both unbothered, Bill has a beer and Sol has a lemonade and curls up against Sol’s side and occasionally participates in the conversation.

AAAAAAA no wait i love this-

You know one of those lemonades that have foam like beer does? That's what Sol is having.

Sol lasts quite a long time at the event, but ultimately gets tired and tugs on Heather's sleeve "Bill...? Can we go home now?" I'm meltingggg ;_;

I am a Heather caregiver apologist and I think he’s good with Sol and Tommy Armitage and can babysit other Littles without having to worry about his judgment. He’s not one to play pretend and he’s more concerned about safety and everyone having dry pants and full bellies rather than having “fun” like Aunt George or Fitzmomma. He’s just a guy and he talks to Sol and Tommy the same way no matter their headspace and calls them “mate” and is happy to hold a little one and watch football on TV or drink a beer while they have a sippy of juice. He’s a good caregiver for Sol and Tommy though and that’s what matters!

Agree! He's really practical. Gets done what needs to be done steadily, without fail and is there to give support when needed. NOBODY gets left with a dirty diaper for more than 10 minutes. Master at finding changing spots when they're outside.

Just has a different style of caretaking which, say, Johnny doesn't like as much. He needs to be called a little sparkly angel twice an hour or he combusts. Bill just doesn't do that... Sol or Tommy wouldn't like it much anyway ^^ They're his boy! Big guy! Mate! Buddy! And he loves them so much I'm going to cry-
