“When one throws a ball, they are usually suppose to. . . stay at the ball.” He chuckled as he found his Queen on the balcony, the stars were beautiful. “Did you. . . enjoy Regis’ fireflies?” It took them forever setting them up.

There was a pause, a moment where Clarus’ eyes adjust from the bright light. His body ached something awful and he could taste blood on his tongue. His head started to pound, and he reached out for something to touch. It wasn’t until he felt another body beside him that he tensed up. And as his vision cleared, he let out a soft gasp of air--- wrapping his arms around the woman beside him. “My Queen, thank the Gods you are unharmed!” He put his forehead against hers and for a moment, everything was fine---- until he realized that nothing was alright. He let go of her, reaching for his sword and standing in front of her. Waiting for the enemy to strike----- But there wasn’t an enemy. Just them. Alone in a field somewhere. And it was dark. . . darker then normal. Or at least getting there. The world felt. . . off balance. “Aulea. . . are you too hurt to fight?”

“--- And when I want cold drinks.” He replied, taking a sip of his whiskey as he watched her flames dance. Granted fire was pretty fun to have. And while it was fun, it burned too hot. Now ice on the other hand---- “I’m a blast at parties. Ever see one of those ice sculptures? Ever made of those in under ten minutes?” He grinned. If she got to show off, he wanted to as well. It was only fair.

It was late. Clarus had been studying for two hours and still nothing was making sense, so he decided to turn in early. Or at least that’s what he planned. Two hours into his rest, he heard a tap at his door. Well. Taps. Two quick ones. Opening the door, Clarus blinked. “What--- oh. Hi.” It was a girl. From two doors down. The really pretty one that Regis often mentioned. Not that Clarus was looking at her when she would go to classes. Not that he knew she liked to order late night Galahdian food during exams or that she really liked those MoogleBucks drinks that Cid was always drinking. Did that make him weird? Probably. “Um, right, uh. You need me to call maintenance for the door?” He swallowed. “Wanna come in, that way you’re not. . . standing in the hallway.” He paused. “That sounded weird didn’t it, I’m sorry.”

The Aulea knew that it wasn’t the best job to have. She knew that people looked down on dancers, blamed them for things like the customers being there instead of blaming the actualcustomers. However, she still liked her job. She enjoyed the tips, and as someone that grew up proud of her body, it didn’t bother her to show it if at all. Plus, in the middle of the song, body twisted in a long arc as she danced on the stage, when she saw the man in front of her holding out the money? She had to admit it helped having gorgeous customers.
Regis didn’t go out often, but he was glad that he’d decided to tonight. He’d gone out to strip clubs before, the women were gorgeous, other patrons didn’t try to talk to him, hardly anybody approached him, and if he ended up talking to a woman. Well.
They both understood what was going on, they weren’t interested in him, just the money, for work. It was reassuring, despite how otherwise it was one of his fears, one reason he avoided so many people.
Tonight had been especially rewarding. There was one woman, who’d caught his attention, and he’d been positively entranced. He held out the tip, a rather large bill, patiently, his arm relaxed as he watched her with appreciation, smiling warmly as she caught his gaze briefly.
“Don’t give up.”

“Well.” He shook his head, a dry chuckle bubbling from his throat. He licked his chapped lips, just taking her in. It had been so long. It almost hurt that he had almost forgotten what she looked like---- sounded like. “The last time I saw you in one of my shirts, I was younger.” Aulea surviving after being sucked through the crystal was indeed puzzling. How she stayed the same age was also weird. But it was really her. No daemon. No tricks. And here Regis was--- older. In his fifties and weak from the crystal draining the life out of him. Bringing him out of his head, back to the young woman in front of him. She was only ten years older than their son. It was so insane. “I’m afraid I didn’t age like fine wine.” He most likely looked---- old to her. Ugly. An old man.
