Danny shouldn't have been so quick to act. He should have waited, should have thought about what he was doing before he did it. But he didn't wait, didn't think. And he paid the price for it.

But... one good thing came out of it, he supposed.

The blue told him things, opened his mind. It gave him a purpose, a way to fulfill his Obsession and save people.

He was saving people... right?

Now he wields two Infinity Stones! I made him the Scepter, aka the Glowstick of Destiny. Bit of a rush job, but I’m entering him into a crochet competition tomorrow, so it had to be finished tonight. If I had time I’d extend the plate ridges on the back, not that you can see them clearly in this photo.

The metallic yarn is difficult to work with and twists a lot. The Sceptre has some florist’s wire in it to help keep the shape. I had to insert the stuffing with a pair of wooden chopsticks and a great deal of patience.

The battle with Strucker's base does so much setting up of the ideas that this film (and Civil War) intends to explore, but it's really subtle about it in some cases. And I'm not sure if that's on purpose, or a consequence of this film getting lost in its own ideas and not realizing them very well? I don't know. We'll see, I guess.

But in addition to introducing the Maximoff Twins and letting them show off how cool they are, there are three significant things that the film sets up here.

1 - The Avengers see themselves as liberators who are going to protect Sokovia. There's some discussion about Strucker endangering the city in the course of the battle, so Tony sends the Iron Legion to try and evacuate people away from danger zones.

But the people react to the Avengers' presence with outrage. They don't want the Avengers here. No one invited them. They're the invaders. A hostile foreign influence attacking the nearby Sokovian base.

(A base that's doing evil bad guy research on the Glowstick of Destiny/Mind Gem. It's complicated, but the fact that it is complicated, that this is something the film wants to talk about, is interesting.)

I think I remember this being the element that gets super lost throughout the film.

2 - The Mind Gem is trying to create Ultron. This is one of the most easily missed details in the film. Tony enters Strucker's lab to find a bunch of things, but the camera settles on unfinished pieces of robot bodies. The Scepter has been using Strucker to try and create a robot vessel for itself.

As I recall, this comes back later in the film. When Ultron moves to Sokovia and begins mass-producing drones of himself, he uses the Ultron-making infrastructure of Strucker's lab to do it.

The Scepter wants a body. It wants to complete its work. And it will use whatever big brain is nearby to make one.

3 - A minor detail, but Wanda. Wanda and Pietro attempt to assassinate Tony in the lab, and they're more or less successful. Wanda gives Tony a vision that's meant to emotionally devastate and distract him.

But she doesn't control the vision. We see Tony confronted with a narcissistic apocalypse. Everyone died because he, Tony Stark, didn't do enough and for no other reason. And then we cut back to reality and pan over to Wanda with a face that screams, "What the actual fuck did I just see?"

She gets her head back in the game and stops Pietro from killing Tony, while grinning evilly. I think this is supposed to imply that she's figured out that Tony will, if left to his own devices, destroy the Avengers. But it doesn't really get followed up on. The next time we see these characters, Ultron hunts them down for recruitment.

I just watched Avengers: Age of Ultron for the first time, ever, and it never dawned on me to watch it until today.

I JUST FOUND OUT A LOT INFORMATION THAT NOW MAKES SENSE. This is a potentially long post so

1) LOKI’S SCEPTER HAD THE FUCKING MIND STONE IN THERE THIS WHOLE TIME? Guys, I seriously thought that the Tesseract was split in half and that half was actually in the cube and some of the particles were in the scepter because during Avengers: Endgame, I was like... “Dude, just get the scepter and get the particles from that, what’s the problem?” Needless to say, now I know what’s up.

2) VISION. I don’t know where to start with this one, but holy fuck. 

3) JARVIS.

4) THE MIND STONE.

5) WandaVision feels are hitting harder than ever now because I actually have the whole story and it hurts.

6) WANDA. She was instantly attracted to him, and I’m here for it. Also, ouch. 

7) Ultron is one of the scariest fucking things that I ever saw come out of that fucking room.

8) Natasha and Banner, though. :(

9) People just know what Wakanda is? Vibranium in a robot, holy fuck.

10) THAT CITY WAS LIFTED INTO THE AIR

11) Quicksilver’s heroic death.

12) CLINT BARTON HAD A SECRET FAMILY??

13) The visions that Wanda gave everyone, holy fuck. I didn’t quite understand Natasha’s, so maybe I’ma have to watch more movies. Stark’s vision hurt. 

14) THAT...is one angry HULK.

15) Sun is going down.

16) NATASHA WAS STERILIZED! DUDE! My heart hurt for her! This struck me in the fucking chest because :(((

17) I can’t even be angry that Bruce just disappeared because if I were the Hulk, I’d be pissed if I was constantly hidden away when I’m not needed anymore so

18) Any reason to get Thor naked...Is that the fucking Ra’s al ghul pit in a different light??

19) Which is worse...? An army of Chitauri aliens or a horde of one-minded robots? Idk.

20) I almost wanted Thor to find Jane.
