I'm having a lot of thoughts and feelings about the sheer number of high production value, high stakes women-centric shows starring mature British actresses we've had in the last six months. What was in the water ~two years ago that set all those in motion?
(Yes, I snuck Robin Wright in there even though she's American, she's kissing Anna Chancellor, it counts).
There's so many that my brain is trying to draw comparisons. I guess Riot Women has the lowest stakes, but it's probably the best of the bunch precisely because of that.
Several have great setups but don't quite stick the landing, The Girlfriend, as the most psychological thriller of the lot, is either the most egregious or the bravest in this regard.
The Assassin is sillier than Black Doves and Hostage, but also more fun. I wish there was a The Assassin poster that also had Gina Gershon on it.

Three with that young police woman from Line of Duty (Alright I'm clutching at straws now).
Anyway I'm feeling very, very fed and there's more to come. I see that that Emma Thompson one started last week, which is difficult because my brain is still in a "let's watch Riot Women for the 6th time" space. And we've got that Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey western dropping in December.
