Autumnal

All four illustatrations were drawn out in an A6 Seawhite of Brighton sketchbook, using Ohuhu alchohol markers and fineliners. These markers are a bit of a departure for me from my usual medium, and it's been a lot of fun learning how to use them and blend with them. The leaves motif is something I have included in my art quite a lot over the years, and tend to return to it. These are part of an ongoing theme and I will explore it further for a while I think. The images are darker than I had hoped for. As I live in England, its virtually raining non stop the light is always pretty terrible. I have edited for brightness and contrast a little, but not too much as I don't want to lose the depth of colour. The result is by no means perfect, but will have to do.

Art Journal - Mixed Media: Falling

Happy new year... belatedly.  This is meant to be viewed in portrait view despite the positioning of the lettering. Have now a love hate relationship with this as I did the leaves and left it for ages not knowing what to do with it, and when I did the lettering, it went wrong so many times I nearly tore it out! Still, it’s done.

Art Journal - Mixed Media: Value

So, completed something in my art journal. Art journaling isn’t something I have done much of, and as a consequence, there are many unfinished pages in it. My original intention was to write something of my own for each illustration, but nothing was coming, so I have just decided to include words that mean something to me instead. Sadly the photography doesn’t do justice to the colour because the light is so bad. Medium: Background acrylic ink wash. Flowers and leaves are rendered with Posca pens and fine liner Unipens. The graphics are Posca and Unipens, and the print on printer paper finished with a light watercolour wash.

Rocket

Day 16 of @inktober: ‘Rocket’.

Actually, out of the meagre five drawings I produced for Inktober, I enjoyed this drawing this one the most. I have a large collection of reproduction 1950s tin wind up robots. I have always loved the whole Jetsons space age illustrative style and designs, and was into films like Forbidden Planet when I was younger, which features the original Robby the Robot, and which I have in my collection. So, this piece I sketched out the quickest, literally in about a minute and with no reference photo. I guess the imagery is so firmly embedded in my psyche from my childhood. Interestingly, this drawing seems to be the most popular.

Radio

Day four of Inktober: ‘Radio’.

Better late than never. So, I had originally planned to do at least a couple of drawings a week for @inktober. However, time and circumstances were not on my side, and the weather made it almost impossible (when you live in England) to photograph anything as it was so dark. Plus, I was also doing the OSWC2020 writing prompt this month on here, at which I was marginally more successful.

So here is the Day Four prompt for Inktober, and it turned out better than expected. I have some other pieces that remain unfinished. I hope to add them at some point when they are done.

Inktober Day 29: Shoes

I had some Inktober 2020 drawings that were finished, and I felt that I might complete the ones I liked. I liked this one, so I finished it. This was supposed to be for Day 29: ‘Shoes’ and also qualifies for Inktober 52: Week 44. When I was young I was a fan of the film ‘The Red Shoes’ starring Moira Shearer and directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, so that was my very loose inspiration for this drawing.
