"and here i thought i'll have to give this to a ghost," he says, sighing. truthfully he'd have preferred giving this to someone else than lenalee; that would mean she wouldn't have to be here, trapped. her situation is not so different with the order, but there, at the very least, she'll be with her brother. her world. guess he'll have to find a way to get her out soon. kanda bites back another sigh and hands her the rose gold butterfly anklet he bought from a thrift store. "happy birthday."
BIT BY BIT, PERSON BY PERSON, HER WORLD BEGINS TO SHATTER ! In shards of vibrant light, broken glass memories scattered across the floor like a jagged mosaic. And then there was an island in the abyss somewhere far away from war but in a sea of unfamiliar faces. Everything here felt wrong, foreign and disconnected. I HATE THIS PLACE. Fervidly the words form in her mind. It is a deep set loathing. An all-consuming notion that could easily swallow her whole leaving her in the ruins that frequented her nightmares.
Somehow in the vast chaos he meets her. Not knowing how relieved she is by only the sight of him until she can feel the damp sting of her tears. There is chain in his hands, glinting slightly but she can barely make out its shape through her watery vision. A gift ? SHE HAD FORGOTTEN. A celebration felt ill-placed when the sky she had pieced together so carefully seemed to crumble down upon her. Yet now one of the pieces stood firmly in place, sturdy and immovable. And she rushed to cling onto him for fear that he would vanish as he had so many times before.
Arms are flung over his shoulders pulling him in close, concealing her tear-strewn face in the the rough fabric of her uniform. ❛ You never know how to leave properly. ❜ From the Order. From HER. Words are muffled between her constricting throat and the limbs she has buried herself in. Reluctantly she leans out of the embrace, untangling from him with a certain hesitance. Remembering herself she begins to dab at her cheeks embarrassment flooding back to her.
❛ Why are you here ? You shouldn’t be…❜ Inquiries which rush out of her but even in the midst of this upheaval she takes the anklet into her hands cradling it with great importance. Fingers curling inward shrouding the present from view, holding it aloft in a fist against her chest. ❛ Is it selfish of me To be happy because of this ? ❜ Not because of what he gave but for simple act of his presence. ❛ I don’t want to be but … Thank you. ❜ All she has is this small gratitude, muddled and not without greed. Imperfect beings, were they not ? But she would do what it took to survive, deluded as it might be.
