Of all the characters, Langdon is the one who nailed ep10 for me. Because somehow he managed to stay the most empathetic person in the ER.

We are talking about Frank Langdon, who seemed bored during a minute of silence in s1, who harshly scolded Santos, lied to Robby, offered to guess a patient's alcohol level; sarcastic, cynical Frank Langdon.

In ep10, he patiently brought different drinks for Becca to choose and melted meds in one of them, no questions asked. He also apologised to her for making her wait, and defended her privacy, and even asked her permission to leave with a gesture (I just like that little moment).

He asked Mel about her deposition and seemed genuinely concerned about her.

He worried about Louis' body and funeral. Everyone in the ER liked Louis, but it was only Langdon who thought about honoring him. (Also, I think, because Langdon knows that they were his emergency contact, and Louis was kind and forgiving to him, so it could feel personal to Langdon).

He managed to get through the whole dialogue with Santos without scolding her, rolling his eyes and making irritated sighs.

He immediately rushed to help Mohan, did all the necessary things and made zero comment on her state even after the things Robby said.

That's what I call character growth.

I actually think it could be not only because of Langdon's therapy and feelings of guilt, but also because he was able to rest without this job for these ten months. Of course we know it was a hard time for him. But we also know that this job is able to get to everyone, to make them tired, burnt out, cynical, rude. And Langdon himself knows that too.

honestly i don’t know if it would change much if everyone knew that frank was stealing

i mean louis forgave him, and me personally, if I knew someone was an addict and it took them ten full months to get to even a half normal, i’d already assume they did some pretty desperate shit

for me the worst issue was always that he took his fear out on trinity, not that he was an addict

I started sobbing when Digby rang the bell 😭

I rewatched s1ep1, and here is what I noticed:

It's really informative. Robby and Abbot are friends, Javadi is Shamsy's daughter, Whitaker is a farm boy, Collins is pregnant, McKay is 42, Princess speaks 6 languages, Santos gives the Pittlings their nicknames, Robby has his COVID flashback (really bad way to start a shift)... All just in one episode.

A lot of Chekhov's guns that will go off way later. Abbot tells Robby about the veteran and the pregnant girl. Kraken is mentioned. Doug Driscoll is already here and furious. The teen David with the girls list appears.

Abbot says that he doesn't want to be one of Robby's patients. Robby replies that it's mutual. I don't like where this is going; hope it won't happen in future seasons. (By the way, what do you think, for how long has Abbot been Robby's emergency contact?)

Langdon introduces Louis.

The first scene we see Mohan: she's talking with an old lady.

Mohan: "I'm going as fast as I can!" She's already defensive with Robby, it's just gonna get worse after 10 months.

Mohan performs a tricky intubation. That's a glimpse of what Abbot will see in her.

Collins doesn't want to tell Robby about her pregnancy. We'll know later why.

It's the third shift for Javadi. She's about to go through Pittfest on her third medical shift, it's so crazy. (I've been told that rotation doesn't equal to shift, so it's not actually correct; but her situation is still crazy, like, she's 20)

Langdon talks to Robby about dogs. He's so desperate to be Robby's friend.

Langdon helps Mel with the sleeping kid. This show really likes to give Langdon cases with kids and teens, it works so well with the character's fatherly side.

Langdon also immediately separates the kid's parents; he's clearly able to act quickly in a crisis situation.

Santos helps Whitaker with his finger injury; this is her gentle side in this episode.

The contrast between s1 and s2 is so noticeable. Robby is calm and confident, Dana is charming and smiling, Mohan is more relaxed, Whitaker is clumsy and uncertain, Javadi is just cute, Santos is curious and chill, Mel is excited but seems uncomfortable with her colleagues around. And Langdon is so agitated, almost every line of his is a sarcastic remark. Oh, we should've noticed it, if only we knew where to look...

And Abbot is already in an existential crisis, but looks normal to everyone except Robby.

Robby and Santos can't stand being around Langdon in s2 because (I think) they are the only people who know that Langdon stole the patients' meds.

Addiction is not his fault. Stealing is.

Everyone else seems so nice to Langdon because it would be hypocritical to judge the person with addiction: they help patients every day and many of them have their own addiction (like Dana smokes, Shen drinks a lot of coffee, Abbot probably needs adrenaline).

And actually it was the system that broke Langdon. He hurt his back and needed meds to keep up. Everybody could be on his place — Whitaker, Robby, Shen, Dana...

But it was Langdon's choice to steal.

And he didn't even confess to Mel about it, despite his honesty to her. He told her about the rehab, not the meds.

Will Mel feel betrayed when she knows? (I think this is gonna happen sooner or later)

Who else knows, except Robby and Santos? Does even Langdon's wife know all the story?

And there is Abbot on the other hand. He doesn't have a freaking leg, he must had to learn how to walk again, he's gone through a huge pain, we saw that it's still difficult for him to stand for a long shift in s1. But somehow I'm sure that he would never steal from a patient. Because he's a protector by nature.

If Langdon's story happened on Abbot's shift... I'm afraid to think about it.

(hear me out, I don't hate Langdon. I really like him, i i genuinely think that he is probably the most interesting character in s2 because of this conflict. But what he did sucks)

The more I think about it, the more I feel that Robby and Santos are saint, because they didn't and don't tell everybody around about the worst part of Langdon's story.

And yeah, Louise was saint, because he was (maybe) the only one who knew all the story and forgave Langdon immediately.
