Reading Ringworld for the reference material

Bloody hell why did I have to pick a ringworld as my setting for worldbuilding I can't get through more than half a chapter of Larry Niven's Ringworld it's just so goddamn sexist

Main character is like 200 years old and spends the whole time chastising and belittling the college-aged woman who of course he's also fucking throughout the book.

Me: I enjoy worldbuilding. I’m reading “Ringworld” right now, and the setting...

Me, sobbing into Speaker-to-Animals’ fur: How did your species evolve?! How did you develop spaceflight?!? Everything about your culture makes it harder for you to advance! You literally genetically engineered yourselves so that half of your population would be non-sentient for the rest of time!

Me: ...The setting has some issues but it’s mostly cool. I like Nessus, he’s funny.

Me: ...

I really love these books for their amazing concepts and descriptions of sci-fi technology... If only Niven wouldn’t be such a misogynist and homophobe ¯\_( ꙮ )_/¯
