Months Remaining - A Short Cosmic Horror Poem Story

The Observer

28 months remain.

It’s shrinking.

They ignored it at first.

They ignored the shift in temperature.

“It’s just the weather.”

They ignored the darkening of the sky.

“It’s becoming winter.”

They ignored how painfully obvious it had become, shrinking from a quarter to a dime.

But now they see it.

It’s only been ten months.

But it’s already too late.

The sun is shrinking.

The Scientist

21 months remain.

The sun is shrinking.

We didn’t know how at first. 

There was nothing visible, not from here.

Not from here.

We sent out a satellite.

And we found…

We found…

A thing.

Larger than any other biological being that we know of.

Larger than what should be possible.

And it was consuming the sun.

It seemed to know we were watching.

Its… eyes, if you can call them that, followed the satellite.

It mimicked the rotation of the Earth, so we didn’t see it.

Not for ten months.

Not until it was too late.

It's still hungry.

And the sun is almost gone.

The Archeologist

20 months remain.

The sun has been shrinking.

We’ve all been terrified.

Streets falling into disarray.

Phony cults being made to prey on the vulnerable.

Then they released the photos.

That didn’t help.

It just scared everyone more.

But when I saw it, it didn’t scare me. 

It reminded me of something. 

A name.

Edax.

An ancient creature, inscriptions of it found in books of mythology. 

Mythology.

A myth.

I wish it was a myth.

The stories that it came from foretold this.

They knew.

And we didn’t.

The Cultist

8 months remain.

To believe I’ve been in this…

Religion?

Cult?

I can’t tell anymore.

I’ve been in it for a year now.

I’m next on the sacrifice list.

I won’t be showing up.

I’ve seen through it now.

I won’t be dying for their bullshit.

How could I be so foolish at the beginning?

They’re extorting us.

They don’t care about stopping this.

They just want our money!

How fucking foolish I was.

To believe in that.

But I’m not the only fool.

What are they going to do, pay that thing off?

I’m going to spend my time doing something I love.

Like poetry.

Made a comic about that one time I “met” Azathoth in a dream! (Idk why I was I a dress either in that dream)

Anyone who knows the lore about Azathoth knows about the music of the Outer Gods so that’s how I knew it was him 💀

Also I didn’t mention it in the comic but the whole time I heard “things” talking and whispering to me in an unknown language, in my dream I was talking back but to this day I don’t remember what we were talking about 😭 couldn’t be Azathoth since he’s asleep???

Lord knows what he’s capable of but idk it didn’t feel like he was the one talking anyway 🤷🏽 I could hear him snoring in a way
