I’ve just realised what Louis’ UK / Europe tour merch design reminds me of.

The final scene of fight club.

After learning that Tyler only exists in his mind, The Narrator / Jack shoots himself, ridding himself of his inner conflict with Tyler Durden while regaining control and confronting his own struggles.

Jack and Marla watch the decimation of the city skyline as Project Mayhem’s plan - created by Tyler and therefore Jack the Narrator - unfolds.

As the explosions start and the skyscrapers fall Jack takes Marla’s hand.

“You met me at a very strange time of my life”

The buildings continue to fall and The Pixies song Where is My Mind, which was inspired by the frontman’s experiences scuba diving in the Caribbean, plays until the screen fades to black.

Looking at the merch, the design shows the silhouettes of two people standing hand in hand while smoke plumes around them, walking towards or watching an explosion.

And the two-sided face, perhaps representing the twist in Fight Club that comes right at the end, when we learn that Tyler Durden and The Narrator / Jack, were the same person all along. Tyler representing a manifestation of Jack’s repressed anger and desire for freedom. The Narrator / Jack representing the crisis of capitalism as a crisis of masculinity.

Not saying it means anything, it just occurred to me today and as I was a huge fan of the film when it came out in 1999 it was a fun realisation!

I really hope so. I think both AFHF 2021 and 2022 merch designs were exceptionally pretty.

But this one was definitely very special!
