Although money was never his main motivation, every once in a while he would come across a job offer with so many dollar signs attached that even Jax had a hard time refusing. In this particular case, however, the job was too big for one person, and because Jax always worked alone his potential client had set up a meeting with a possible partner for him to work with. He wasn’t particularly keen on the idea of working on such a sensitive operation with someone he didn’t fully trust -- but the size of the reward had enough pull for him to at least agree to the meeting.
There were hundreds of cafes in Lumiose City, and to him they were all more or less the same: a bit too snobby for his taste, but at least they served coffee. He had been scoping out the area for over an hour, the brim of his hat pulled low over his eyes as he made his third pass through the area. Nothing suspicious, and no sign of anyone else keeping watch over the immediate area. Perhaps he was a bit too paranoid, but with your name on the International Police organization’s shit list one could never be too careful.
The aroma of freshly brewed espresso drifted into his senses as Jax finally entered the designated shop -- Café Soleil -- and immediately spotted a familiar figure in the corner, her signature green hair poking out from behind a laptop screen. With a mixture of bemusement and relief, Jax ordered an Americano before settling down into the empty seat across from the woman.
“I guess I should have known you were the one I’d be meeting here.” Jax started in a hushed tone, skipping the formality of a greeting as he leaned forward with his elbows on the table. “How have you been, Vee? I can see you’re not in prison, so I guess Interpol hasn’t caught up with you yet, at least.”
He half-wondered if she would even remember him. They had only met a handful of times before, and never under pleasant circumstances, but he was sure that they were significant enough to earn him a permanent spot in her memory. “I have to be honest, I was seriously considering walking away from this deal once the client told me he hired two people for the job, but this -- have admit, it’s kind of a match made in heaven. A renegade hacker teaming up with an exiled intelligence agent; I’m actually a little surprised we haven’t bumped into each other like this sooner.”
