Lunar and solar eclipses and the eclipse corridor in September 2025
September 2025 brings one of the most powerful celestial passages of the year: two eclipses just two weeks apart. In Vedic astrology, eclipses are never seen as ordinary astronomical events. They act as turning points - times when karmic patterns resurface, attachments are tested, and life encourages us to release what no longer fits so we can step into new perspectives. The story of eclipses in Jyotish (Vedic astrology) is tied to Rahu ☊ and Ketu ☋, the shadow planets. Astrologically, lunar eclipses occur when the full moon aligns with Rahu or Ketu. In myths, they are the serpent whose body was cut in half - Rahu, the head, and Ketu, the tail - forever chasing the Sun and Moon, sometimes swallowing their light. When the luminaries are obscured, our own clarity of mind, heart, and energy can waver. For this reason, eclipses are traditionally viewed as less favourable for new beginnings, especially significant ones such as marriages, investments, or major commitments. And yet, eclipses also open a doorway to inner growth. If you have been feeling heavy or standing at a crossroads, this eclipse season may bring the insights you need to release old patterns, clear emotional clutter, and prepare for fresh possibilities.
🌕 September 7–8, 2025: Full Moon Eclipse (“Blood Moon”) in Purva Bhadrapada (Aquarius ♒, 21 degrees)
On September 7 at 18:12 UT/GMT, the Moon will be swallowed in shadow for about 82 minutes, visible across much of Europe and Asia.
This eclipse falls in Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra, ruled by Jupiter, the fiery star of spiritual fire, ruled by Rudra. Its symbol is the burning funeral pyre - a sacred flame that purifies and frees the soul from earthly attachments. Under this lunar eclipse, hidden patterns may rise to the surface. You may see where you have been acting unconsciously, or notice people, relationships, or situations that reveal a “two-faced” quality, just like this nakshatra’s dual symbol.
This makes it a powerful time for reevaluating old stories, releasing old emotional baggage, and preparing to step forward with renewed clarity.
☊☋ Dynamics
Since May 2025, the lunar nodes have shifted onto the Aquarius–Leo axis, where they will remain until late 2026, shaping the themes of these eclipses.
Rahu in Aquarius magnifies innovation, AI, collective action, and progressive thinking. It makes us crave futuristic solutions and connection, but it can also amplify irrational behavior and collective confusion, luring us into herd mentality or blind faith in technology. Ketu in Leo, on the other hand, asks us to release ego-driven leadership, the hunger for the spotlight, and outdated hero-worship. Instead, we are called to embody humble, heart-centered courage.
🌑 September 21, 2025: Partial Solar Eclipse in Uttara Phalguni (Virgo ♍, 4 degrees), New Moon
Two weeks later, the cycle completes with a solar eclipse in Uttara Phalguni nakshatra, at about 4 degrees sidereal Virgo, on September 21 at 19:43 UT/GMT.
Uttara Phalguni is ruled by Aryaman, the deity of vows, contracts, and right relationships. Its symbol -the back legs of a bed -represents the agreements that uphold society: marriage, partnerships, friendships, and bonds of support. When the Sun and Moon are eclipsed here, clarity around commitments may blur. Promises could be tested, contracts re-examined, or obligations revealed for what they truly are. Because this eclipse falls in Virgo, these themes may appear through daily life: service, health, routines, and responsibilities. It asks us to look honestly at where our commitments truly align, and where adjustments are needed.
🌌 The Eclipse Corridor
The two weeks between the lunar and solar eclipses form what’s known as the eclipse corridor - a liminal space where energy is unsettled, karmic, and transformative.
The Eclipse Corridor is not the ideal time for launching big projects, entering contracts, or making major life decisions. Instead, it is a period for reflection, release, and preparation for new, fresh beginnings after the end of the solar eclipse.
🌠 Pitru Paksha
September 2025 is especially unique because the eclipse corridor overlaps with Pitru Paksha, the sacred fortnight in the Vedic calendar dedicated to honoring our ancestors. From September 7 to September 21, rituals of remembrance, gratitude, and offerings (tarpana) are performed.
This overlap amplifies the reflective and karmic themes of the month, creating a profound invitation to release the past, honor where you have come from, and consciously shape the path ahead.
✅ Do’s and ❌ Don’ts
Do:
Meditate, chant, or listen to mantras - especially to Jupiter (Purva Bhadrapada’s ruler) or the Sun (Uttara Phalguni’s ruler).
Embrace flexibility: accept unexpected changes as opportunities to grow.
Keep a journal: document thoughts, emotions, and events. It helps recognise patterns and triggers.
Cleanse - physically (declutter your space), emotionally, or spiritually.
Fast lightly or simplify meals during the eclipse (if health permits!).
Bathe and purify after the eclipse passes.
Donate food, clothing, or support causes linked to education or humanitarian aid.
Offer tarpana (ancestor offerings) - especially meaningful this year with Pitru Paksha coinciding with eclipses.
Avoid:
Starting new big ventures, signing contracts, or holding weddings during the eclipse.
Elective surgeries or major procedures.
Overindulging in social media or sensational news.
Risky speculation -financial or emotional.
Impulsive decisions
Think of September as a sacred pause, not a time for rushing forward. The eclipses, the nodal shift, and Pitru Paksha together create a unique invitation: release what no longer serves, honor the past, and prepare for a more heart-centered future.
