The Liberation of Italy from Government forces was a long, drawn out siege, with both sides bringing to bear powerful technology that had been in development. Most disturbingly, the Italian government unleashed powerful cybernetically augmented soldiers, cybernetics that rivaled some of the highest quality of Sankaku engineering. Government forces, however, eventually were starved out, with Corporate forces cutting off all supplies from coming into the country. As well, a powerful virus was introduced into the mainframe of the Italian government, allowing the Corps to seize control.

The signing of the Venice Accord abolished all Government presence in Italy, as well as splitting the country between the several Corporations vying for control. Kelfried & Oden, one of the signatories of the Accord, claimed the research for all government cybernetics and absorbed whatever former entities into its augmentation program.

It is rumored that an anti-corporate resistance force still works in the underground in the former Italian cities, based upon the few government workers who managed to escape from Corporate grasp.
