Even her voice. Sure, her hair and clothing looked quite different to the last they had met - but it was incredible - the likeness. Even though they hadn't seen each other in years, he would have recognised her anywhere. It was impossible though.

isla’s brows lift in shock, both at the fact that there actually is somewhere dignified to get your clothes cleaned around here and that he doesn’t seem to recognise her at all. or maybe he does and is trying to act nonchalant. wouldn’t be the first time. “not unless it’s a mud bath...” a treatment she’s never been a huge fan of, evident by the slight scrunch of her nose. “you can’t tell me people actually enjoy stepping in this shit every day.”

there's a faint voice in the back of her mind as she strolls forward, steps dragging along with each one she takes. even the sound of her own boots along the gravel is muffled the same as every other sound that's nothing more than background noise. at this point, her own thoughts feel like background noise, but she keeps hearing that voice as it gets louder and louder. whatever pills she'd been given had done wonders to drag her under, but it could do nothing to push even him aside. another slow step and she comes to a halt, realizing the voice isn't in the back of her mind, but it's behind her, growing louder until she finally listens to hear her name being called clearly enough by a voice that breaks through. "i don't— i don't understand—" she manages as confusion settles on her face. even though he has complied with her request ( or demand ), she is no less confused by the state of their lives. "but you were happy ... weren't you? with—" she pauses, realising she has either forgotten or never really knew the name of his most recent ex. "—you know ... ?"
