For the newbies:

-Rose Wilson and her mother Lilian Worth were introduced in 1992 in Deathstroke #15. In that comic we learn about Lilian’s origin. 

-She was a Cambodian princess who lived in Siem Pang, in north east Cambodia, near the borders of Laos. She met Slade during the Cambodian Genocide which took place from April 1975 to January 1979, I did my math and I figured out that they met between 1977 and 1978. He was hired to help her and her girls escape to the Khmer Rouge by going to Thailand (Khukhan in the northeast). During the trip they’re attacked by the Khmer Rouge and everyone but Slade and Lilian died, Slade was injured and while trying to escape and survive, they fell in love. 

-At the end of that issue Rose makes her debut which is pretty much a cameo and Marv Wolfman makes it clear that she’s Slade’s daughter. He has no idea who she is or that she even exists, they meet well after Lilian’s death.

-Rose and Lilian appear again in 1994 (Deathstroke #0) and Wolfman changed their origin. Lilian is no longer Cambodian and survivor of the genocide, now she’s a Vietnamese princess. He either did that because he didn’t care about what he originally wrote or because the first origin doesn’t work with the new chronologies (if Rose was 14 in 1994 that would mean that Lilian and Slade met in either 1979 or 1980 which is after the Genocide ended). I’m kinda leaning towards the first one tbh. My issue with that retcon is that he made Lilian someone who had been trained by the Khmer Rouge (yes, the same people who caused the Cambodian Genocide) and used their methods to torture, which is certainly A Choice. 

-Other than that we don’t have more details about their origins, it’s not specified if Lilian and Rose are Khmer or Hmong. After Lilian’s death Rose gets whitewashed 90% of the time, mostly after 1999.

-In new 52 Rose is white, she’s Adeline Kane’s beloved daughter and grew up with Grant and Joey. Lilian Worth doesn’t exist and Rose is completely 100% whitewashed.

-In Rebirth, Christopher Priest uses Marv Wolfman’s second origins for her and Lilian. This time it’s specified that they’re Hmong from Vietnam who moved to Cambodia (Deathstroke #2, 2016).

-In Bombshells’ alternative universe she’s Cambodian and Khmer.

Batman & the Signal #3: before and after

I decided after forever to do a semi- tutorial regarding my latest edit. 

At first glance this looks like a quick and easy edit (especially if you don’t remember the original panel). After recoloring and everything I decided to rotate the image to make Duke stand out more, because that’s what he deserves. Before trimming/ rendering/ whatever the official name is; I had to erase the speech boxes and fill with the new colours.

Here are some examples:

(for example, above I had to fill the far right and far left side of the image because they didn’t exist in the original image before the rotation)

Now after the read more section I’ll make a quick tutorial on how to erase the speech boxes. (note: this might look better on mobile bc the screenshots are lq for deskop tumblr)

 For this tutorial I started from scratch without editing or rotating. The image on the left is exactly how it was when you download scan it from the copy you bought: 

At first I want to point out that throughout the tutorial I didn’t put as much efford as I did in my original edit in order to save time. 

Whatever I’ll show still stands but you might want to pay more attention to detail in your edit. Most people who post edits use layers but I’m fan of the “less is more” mentality :P Finally, because my laptop has linux I no longer use photoshop but a site called photopea, it’s a kinda similar to ps so if you’re familiar with ps you’ll have no problem following the tutorial.

First step is to use the eyedrop tool (shorcut: I)  and choose the colours you want to fill, as shown by the ugly pink arrows, and then use the polygonal lasso (L): 

Then you click ctrl+backspace

and follow suit with the rest:

You can always fix any details you might not be satisfied with:

Still, in some cases you can see the two different shades of the same colour. A quicker way to fix this than the lasso tool is the magic wand tool (W), I’m not a big fan of it but it’s very useful for such details. The tolerance level depends on the image but around 30-40 is usually fine. I’ll only do the wall as an example:

If you want to select more than one area you can click the unite button (this part, from what I remember, is a little different in ps but not too much)

That’s basically it, you do the same thing again and again for the rest of the image. Something like this:

In the original edit I posted I used lasso when editing Duke’s leg but that’s just me being an annoying perfectionist, no one is gonna notice if you used the magic wand instead.

Facts about Rebirth Rose Wilson

I tried to include as less spoilers as possible. In detail this is what we know about Rose up until Deathstroke #26:

-She was born in Cambodia (#10) but she and her mom, Lilian Worth, are Hmong [not longer Khmer as in preboot]. Her mom moved there after the war (#2) and she run a brothel that was used as a safe house for Americans and she worked for CIA.

-Lilian Worth has an IQ of 150 (#2) meaning that both Rose's parents are very smart. She comes from Vietnam and it's implied in #9 that her village was near the border of Laos. Lilian Worth is not her real name but it was given to her by the DEA when she moved to Cambodia (#10). She was protecting and taking care of the girls she took in and they considered her family (#17).

-The first time Rose used a gun was when she was around 10. Some members of a local cartel attacked Lilian's brothel for protecting Slade. In shock she shot a member of Slade's team, paralyzing him. This was also the first time she met Wintergreen and Slade (#2).

-After the events of #2, Rose wanted to live with her dad but he didn't want her to follow in his footsteps so he arranged to put her in a safe house instead. She made Robin (Dick Grayson) her trainer behind her back because he wanted her to have Teen Titans as her role models (#19).

-Rose mentions Dick as her trainer in #3 and we even see them training in a flashback sequence in #4 when he first started going as Nightwing.

-There aren't any details of what happened between the time she was in a safe house and when we first meet her in #3. We know that she used to work as a bouncer in a strip club and then as an anti- hitman (#3, 24).

-Appearance wise she's mixed (half white american and half Hmong) and has been described as whitepassing (#6, 10).

-In her first real appearance she lives with her boyfriend in NY and a cat named Fonzie. They... break up later, the fate of their cat is unknown (#3-5).

-In #2 it's implied that she's 18. The man she paralyzed mentioned that events of that night happened 8 years before and he described Rose as a 'ten year old'. In #4 Rose tells Slade that he didn't knew her when she was ten, meaning that this night she might have been a little bit older than 10.

-In #23 it is shown that it's been a year since the events of Deathstroke Rebirth #1, making Rose also a year older than when she was first introduced in #3.

-In summary: at the beginning of rebirth Rose is 18/19 and around the Defiance storyline (after #21) she is 19/20.

-At first Rose seemed like a girl with no direction (#3). She used the code name Ravager to please her father (#23) and she seems generally not interested in her Hmong heritage (#3 - 6). That changed after the events of #8. [For more about it read the spoiler fact, at the bottom of this post]

-She has a limited form of precognition (#3), she also used it in #4 with questionable results. According to Dr. Villain (#10), the family doctor, her true power is an unlocked mind. Her brain processes thousands more details than a regular brain and what she interprets as the future is nothing but one of the many possibilities of it. Dr. Villain's theory has yet to be confirmed or denied.

-The last time she purposely tries to kill someone was in #5. After Batman stops her she has never attempted to, only threatened.

-She generally has a very good relationship with her brother Joey, even with their ups and downs...

-Just like in pre new 52 universe, she's great with kids. She doesn't hesitate to protect them, she fights and threatens everyone who bring guns and weapons near them. (#10)

-She used to own Japanese swords even though she is Hmong (#4, 23). In #14 she bought a Hmong one with a symbol that I loosely translated as 'Rose'. According to Tanya Spears (Power Girl) her sword is from the future, 30th century. (#23)

-Her real name is Xia which means 'glory of the sunrise'. (#9)

-The last time she uses Ravager as her code name was in #5. It was Red Lion's idea in #18 to go by Rose, she first uses it in #23.

-After the events of #18 she spends weeks in the hospital, because her skull was cracked open. Since #20 she wears a wig.

-She also married her Slade's former tech guy Hosun (he's Korean btw) who first proposed in #12. She agreed in order to piss off her dad. (#20)

-In this issue there was implied drug use. In pre boot Rose was addicted to drugs (adrenaline) but it's not sure if Christopher Priest will go anywhere with that in the future.

-She joined Deathstroke's superhero team Defiance in #20, after his 'reform'. Everyone but Terra and Adeline Kane seems to like her.

-She calls Deathstroke 'Slade' all the time. Except for that time in #23 when she almost killed him by accident, only then she called him 'dad'.

-Wally West II described her as a Betty, while Tara is a Veronica. He also described her as a girl who is 'hot but nice anyway'. (#23)

-Spoilers: Between #9 and #17 when she traveled in Vietnam to find a family sword she met her mom's sister. They traveled back to Minneapolis to meet the rest of her family and she grew close to them very fast. In #16 it was revealed that her 'aunt' was one of the girls who worked for Lilian Worth's brothel. She was hired by Deathstroke to make her come closer to her mom's culture and heritage; it worked.

I think everyone forgets that before teen titans v3 Rose Wilson was a really sweet and nice kid. Like she was the voice of reason at times and she had this perfect relationship with Lian Harper which was all kinds of adorable! Seriously her only issue was her violent tendencies and all that because she was Deathstroke’s Daughter™… As happy as I am that Johns brought her back from the comic oblivion (in a very sadistic way but still) I’m sad that everyone forgot what a fucking sweet kid she was.

hey I've been following for a while and LOVE your blog so I was wondering if you could recommend me some good rose wilson/jessica cruz comics or any other comics you like to read bc I haven't read much of either character but like em both a lot☺️

Hello and thank you very much for your sweet words💙💛💜Jessica Cruz first appeared in the new 52 justice league title (in #34 if I’m not mistaken) but she’s a secondary character so I believe you can skip it. In rebirth she and Simon Baz are starring in Green Lanterns that you should definitely check out, it’s one of the best rebirth titles out there! She and Simon are also appearing in the Justice League rebirth run but the writing is very… meh.I think the best way to start with Jessica is the green lanterns comics and then give justice league new 52 and rebirth a try.Now, about my daughter™ Rose Wilson, I have a masterpost about her. I’m on mobile so I can’t give you a link but you can search ‘Rose Wilson masterpost’ on my blog and you’ll find it…I’d advice you to start with her appearances in teen titans v3 (her first issue is #½). If you like her then you can read the other pre-boot comics. In rebirth she’s in deathstroke, she first appears in #2 but trust me there will be no way you can keep up with the story if you don’t read every single issue…

So I really want to get into the wonder fam.I read most of the WW comics but not so many about Donna and Cassie,except for Teen Titans.I would like to read something with all 3,can you recommend me anything?(sorry this ask is so long)

Hi anon, the ask is not very long but the answer might be… Donna Troy and Cassie mostly appear in teen titans and titans related comics so you’re good if you read these. I don’t know if you’ve read the original young justice comics but you should definitely check it out.

Now about all three of them, it’s a little surprising but there are not many comics with all three of them in the same page/panel. 

Cassie Sandsmark was introduced during John Byrnes’ (#101-136) run in Wonder Woman v2 #105 and she interacted first with Diana and then with Donna separately. From his run you can read: #125-127,136. Generally speaking, i’m not a big fan but the Cassie/ Donna interactions are adorable!

Fast forward to Phil Jimenez’s run(#164-188) you can read the following: Wonder Woman v2 #166,167,174,186,187. I’d advise you to read his run, it’s very wonderfam heavy.

Rucka’s run (#195-226) as amazing as it was it had almost zero Donna because she was dead most of the time but it did had Cassie.

And finally: Wonder Woman v3 # 2-4 + Annual 1, 17, 27,28. The last 3 were from Gail Simone who’s run is worth checking out…

That’s pretty much it, i might have missed some but that’s all their interactions in Wonder Woman comics…
