Summary: Magic and various beasts were a common part our world. While humans naturally had very little magic at their disposal or not at all, beasts were more or less creatures of magic themselves.

It was possible for humans and beasts to choose one another as companion, but mainly beasts of the higher blood could become companions. Their magic was strong enough for them to take human form and then create a lasting bond to their partner. Once that bond was established it enabled the pair to be able to sense their other half regardless where and what they were doing. In a sense they could always find each other. That was just how close the connection between the beast and its human was.

Normally beasts weren’t too interested in bonding with the humans because it didn’t benefit them, but when it came to Zitao, he was a different case. The boy often found himself running away from various creatures that seemed to be drawn to him a little too much. All of this was caused by him, by what he was.

Zitao knew of his unusual bloodline and what effects it had on beasts, which was one of the main reasons the boy never wanted be involved with the said beings. They were nothing but trouble and all that mattered to them was his body because it was special. To consume that body meant they could become stronger. In short, more power meant more influence over the other beasts. For Zitao it basically meant each day was going to be a struggle to keep the gathering pests away…
