The old king is dead, long live the Regent 👑 -- Macalaurë refusing to be High King and instead King Regent is something that adds so much depth into his character. Instead of fleeing responsibility (as many hc depicts him as being soft and weak), he takes up the eldest brother mantle and becomes a leader. It shows that he is gentle, not weak. A reminder that even the singer, too, is a Feanorion.
