The moonlight was the only thing illuminating the otherwise dark dormitory, as Catherine's dorm mates had blown off the candles before going to sleep. But she was still wide awake, and this conversation was torturing her.
"Everyone is hurt, in and out, Merula got hit by the cruciatus curse for heaven's sake!"
"You know this whole cursed vault thing is happening because of you, right?"
"Someone had to do something..."
"You could have left this to the adults and made sure your friends were safe. You dragged them all into this"
Silence fell in the room once again, before the conversation continued.
"You had a bad feeling about Rakepick from the start, why did you go with her? And let your friends go?"
"I'll tell you why, because you're selfish and didn't actually care what she'd do to any of your friends as long as you got what you wanted!"
"It isn't? Then why did you let this happen? When you knew Rakepick was shady?"
That was a good question, Catherine thought.
"I couldn't have known for sure... She tricked me too..."
"You SAW her trying to teach you the cruciatus curse by using it on a person! She has been shady from the very beginning and you knew."
"And you let everyone get in the cursed vault with you and get hurt! They could have been having fun over dinner, but instead you made them follow you in a fully cursed place with a woman not even you trusted! And for what?"
"You didn't! You didn't trust her! You could have done something, and you did nothing."
"They don't blame me for any of this..."
"They probably do. It's your fault anyways, so why wouldn't they? You caused this, all of this."
Catherine couldn't argue with that. As she heard the first birds singing outside, she realized she really ought to get some sleep. It was time she stopped talking to herself, anyways.
