For the longest time I didn't have hognoses on my radar just bc they're unfamiliar to me & don't act like the other snakes I've handled... but I've been doing some research and watching care guides and I've totally fallen in love with their little snoots. I think they're actually way more appropriate for me than the other snakes I was considering starting with (small tank, diurnal, low humidity requirements).

And they're fucking adorable what else can I say

Some of you have taken "butch is not an aesthetic" as a buzzphrase and completely ignored the fact that a core aspect of butch identity is presenting as butch. Because this presentation is a communication: it communicates aspects of your gender identity and desired role in a relationship to your community and the women who are your romantic/sexual partners. Simply put, if you choose not to present butch & not be read as butch, you are not butch.

Obviously it is more complicated for "saturday night butches" who must stay closeted most of the time for safety, or those struggling with coercive femininity, or disabled butches who are unable to present the way they wish, or trans butches for whom gender euphoria of being read as a woman > being read as butch. But for those who genuinely enjoy presenting in ways that are feminine (however that manifests in your cultural context) you need to seriously think about what that means. Butch is the active, radical, rejection of femininity in pretty much all aspects of your life. Not the subversion thereof. Genuine enjoyment in feminine makeup, fashion, lingerie, nails, etc. even if they are alternative looks that read as gay, gnc, and off-putting to cishets, reveals a deep misunderstanding of what butch means.

And it is ok to like those things! If butch presentation feels constricting to you instead of freeing, it is ok to simply exist as a gnc lesbian/wlw. In fact, many such individuals have experiences in common with butches without being butch. You can have a complicated relationship to gender & womanhood and not be butch. You can be chivalrous and protective of your partner and not be butch. You can date other butches and femmes and find solidarity with our community without being butch. You can enjoy playing the role sometimes without making it a part of your identity.

Butch is more than an aesthetic, yes. That doesn’t mean you can disregard the massively central role that presentation plays in our subculture.
