TW; Gun Usage, Light Gaslighting
Ryder startled awake at the yell of his nickname. Sweat billows down his forehead as his dark brown eyes dart across the room in a wild panic.
They linger on something in the dark. A silhouette of a person. A tall, masculine silhouette.
He shouts at the shadow in slight fear, rubbing the dreary night sleep from his eyes and bags. Ryder’s hands try to grab something on his night stand, insomnia pills.
The creature that lurked in the night didn’t reply.
Panic slowly began rising in the 23 year old as his chest started to rise and fall.
His arms, tainted with scars of his own doing, slowly start reaching for the M4 he owns in the drawer of the night stand.
“Who are you?! I won’t hesitate to fucking kill you!”
The fear in his voice is very audible.
This figure finally spoke and Ryder’s skin crawled in realization.
“You’re awake, good. Aiyana gave us a miss—“
“FOR FUCKS SAKE, STANLEY! HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET MY ADDRESS?!”
An ‘interesting’ Stanley Smith takes a few steps forward, still in his work attire. Ryder throws middle fingers toward his older work friend as he gives a heavy sigh of relief, laying back down in his bed.
“never do that ever again or I swear I’ll shoot you!”
He groans with a slight yawn. Something caught his eye though. Stanley looked…. different.
A light brunette man with blue eyes. That’s the Stanley Ryder has known for 2 years. This isn’t blue eyes though.
Soulless pale white eyes stare, never moving. never blinking.
“You won’t. I’m quite upset about something, you know Arthur?”
“I’m displeased that you left. That you, on June 2nd 1938, ran away.”
“How do you know about that day?”
Ryder’s words oozed with an unsettling fear.
However the man ignored the question and continued. Snow white eyes burn holes into Ryder’s being.
“You should’ve stayed. You should’ve handled it like a man. Or are you not a man? I think, in my own opinion, you are a scared little boy, hidden by all the lies you tell yourself.”
“You know what I think, Arthur. Should I say Ryder. You remind me so much of your old man, Luciano. And your mother. Heh. She treated you right, yes?”
Ryder’s hands grab the pistol and aim it at Stanley. His hands shake violently as his pointer pulls back the trigger.
“You are pathetic, Ryder. I had so much faith in you and this is how you repay me?”
The war vet cackles as a bullet flies through his chest. A sight the assassin is used to. A dead body lays slumped against the wall.
Ryder still seems jumpy, his chest rising and falling quickly. The 23 year old shakily puts the M4 down and tries to sleep.
What Stanley had said kept repeating in his head like a broken record. The man Ryder accepted as his father figure. One he told his secrets to.
His eyes snap back open to a dull bedroom. The one he fell asleep in.
Stanley’s body wasn’t in the room.
There was no sign of it ever being there.
“it was all a dream….Jesus Christ….”
TIME SKIP - WORK DAY - 13:47
Ryder walked around the mess hall, noticing his ‘mentor’ loading some 44-40 Winchesters. The train-ie, Ryder, had his mask and gloves on as his eyes linger on Stanley. In the same attire from the dream, but no…y’know.
He inhaled and exhaled before walking toward Stanley.
His shaky voice didn’t seem to concern the veteran.
Stanley put the magazine and bullets down, crossing his arms with a lifted eyebrow.
“you don’t know where i live, right?”
The face masked man blurted out. This obviously caught the other man’s attention
“What? No? Why the hell would I need your address?“
He protests, crossing his arms.
These sounded like words of reassurance to Ryder as he gave a heavy sigh of relief.
“good..good. thanks… am i a pussy?-“
The man’s voice rattled with tears as he looked up at Stanley.
“what the fuck are you on? have you been taking ketamine? No you’re not a wimp!”
The taller man rolled his eyes.
“Now get ready, we’re leaving for the next mission in an hour.”
