Let's try and jazz up the commercials.
I can’t believe how boring commercials are now. I remember growing up, most products had catchy jingles and slogans. How Coke was the Real Thing, Pepsi was the choice of a new generation. Remember the ad “If you think it’s butter, but it’s not, it’s Chiffon.” We all knew what we’d walk a mile for, yep, a Camel. Plus, what product would you rather fight than switch from? Lucky Strike, of course. Hey, what is the San Francisco treat? We all know it’s Rice a Roni. Today, I see all these different Viagra commercials. None have any fun names or entertaining songs. Give that product a name and special hook. How about “The All-nighter”? Even something simple like “My Little Friend”. Even names like “Love Lift” or “Rocket Fuel”. With those names, those Viagra commercials could have an entertainment value to them. I at least give credit to whoever thought up the ad with people carrying around the cardboard face with the smile drawn on it. I had one of those commercials come on the other day, and my daughter was visiting. I told her if someone at one of my family gatherings had one of those smiley faces in his hand, one of my aunts or uncles would have walked up and slapped it out of their hand and told them to snap out of it. My family's cure for problems was to either “Walk it Off” or “Snap out of it”. I can still remember how Coke taught the world to sing. I still sing that song at times. If we all have to suffer through ads at times, let’s at least try to make them fun and memorable. I was at the grocery store this week and came across the Old Spice deodorant display. One section of canned aerosols had a picture of Superman on it with written underneath him read, “Smell like a Hero”. Yep, I bought it. I’m still waiting to see if I get treated any differently. If not, at least it was marked down for clearance.
