My favorite severely underused bit of worldbuilding is in universe memes. A super hero fic i was reading had a mc that could teleport when not in anyone's line of sight and played into the creepy aesthetic - there was a segment from the in universe hero discussion boards where people were posting unwanted houseguest style memes about her. Another story was a scifi where a human was living on an alien planet and the aliens were posting sped up videos of the human climbing on stuff with different captions.
