The Cathedral da † Rebecca Bathory † Tramite Flickr: My travels took me to an incredible quarry this weekend, I meet up with my friend Matt Emmett and soon we were trekking through the luscious green of the forest, branches and roots twisted up from the undergrowth of a Wiltshire forest and the fresh smell of the foliage, surrounded us in a mist. Excitedly we descended into a small hole at the foot of a cliff and began our assent into the darkness. We had one goal and one goal only, to arrive at the majestic cathedral, deep inside the quarry, underneath the Wiltshire countryside. We clambered over huge boulders, squeezed between a gap in-between stone walls only 1ft wide and the closer we got the more I anticipated the chamber of stone I was about to witness. It was important for us to take plenty of lighting and as we journey further and further into the cave we left tiny pieces of paper with arrows to guide us back out so we wouldn't get lost in the miles of underground tunnels. It certainly didn't disappoint, after half an hour to get there, we finally walked out into the 125ft tall, 120ft wide and 120ft long cathedral, dating back to the roman times, the cave certainly didn't disappoint. Pitch back inside the cave, the only light from a small hole above, this was where the stone was pullied up and out of the cave when it was a working mine. Standing at the foot, it was surreal to look up at the beam of light bleating down at the floor beneath. We spent a couple of hours capturing it and then made our way out, covered from head to toe in mud we finally emerged back to the real world. I deeply inhaled a breathe of dust free air and Its adventures like this that make life exciting, as I sat covered in dirt on the train home and people giving me funny looks, I smiled to myself because I had just witnessed something the majority of them could only dream about.
